Hey there!
I'm super exhausted and having trouble getting motivated this Monday morning. I worked all weekend including going until 12:30 a.m. last night. After that I broke down crying to DH for a while so needless to say I didn't get enough sleep and am mentally and emotionally drained on top of it.
These are the days I really miss caffeine.

Aww dashook , that sounds awful. I'm drained just working a 9-to-5 job, I can't imagine having to work nights/weekends too. I wish you could get a bit of a break.

According to one other woman that had a baby while working here, they didn't discuss her leave until she was like a month away from taking it. I'm hoping to have the conversation slightly sooner. I took 5 months (unpaid) with my last baby and would like to take at least that, but possibly 6, with this one. Part of it has to do with baby starting solids at 6 months, which takes a little of the onus off me for pumping. Earlier than 6 months I would have to be pumping a minimum of 3, but more likely 4, times a day, which is almost impossible with my litigation schedule (i.e., it's hard to take multiple 25 minute breaks when you're in court or a day-long deposition). So I'm hoping to convince them that 6 months is a reasonable time to ensure that I come back closer to my full capacity.

I pumped 3x a day until my first 2 were a year old, and my nipples shudder at the thought of pumping again.

And I added on Freemie cups because some of my friends swear by those. It sounds like they would make it way easier to pump in the car, etc.

I ordered through Acceleron and I got a new Medela PISA. The motor on my old one is shot. They are cheap about it now and don't give you the carrying bag with the pump (if you want it you have to pay extra). So, good thing I still have my old one. But I figure, stick with what you know. The PISA is a great pump and always did well by me. When I was pregnant with DD I decided to try something different and ordered a Spectra (? I think). It was awful! I used it like twice. So I guess I have that as a backup pump now, but just in case anyone is thinking about that one--don't do it. Edit for clarity

I worked all weekend and am here again today. One benefit is that I know all of my patients already and it makes Monday less chaotic. Yesterday was a really bad day symptom wise and even though I went to bed extra early, I still feel like I have a hangover today.

Edit for clarity I actually really liked the Spectra, especially compared to the Medela PISA. I think everyone's body is different and some respond better to the Spectra than PISA, and vice versa. I EPed for DS2 from birth to about 3-4 weeks old and found that the Spectra worked as well for me as the Medela Symphony that I used in the NICU. With DS1 I had to triple feed (BF/pump/supplement) in the early days and rented a Symphony. When my insurance eventually covered a pump for me, I got the PISA and found it really uncomfortable and ineffective compared to the Symphony. 🤷♀️ I also really liked the Spectra compared to the PISA. I had the S1 with a rechargeable battery and I didn't have to plug it in. I loved that. Hopefully it will hold up for the second kid. My insurance only covers hand pumps.

Stupidly caved to cravings for those fried noodles from the Chinese place that come with soups. Up half the night with insane nausea. Didn't let myself vomit because I'm afraid to throw up the baby aspirin that's part of our miscarriage prevention. It was the most miserable I've been yet. No more fried foods!
Today, had a rare burst of energy and shopped a local department stores going out of busiNess. Spent $36 on almost ten things. All stuff that will work for maternity. Wore a maternity tee at 8.5 weeks because I have a huge tummy somehow... Only lower abdomen..,and it makes me feel less self conscious!
Found myself asleep in the comfiest prettiest chair on clearance, wanted to cry that it wasn't a recliner (thought it would be a great chair for nursery...I get motion sick from rockers and gliders so am looking for a recliner). Then realized it did recline, super easily with just a bit of leaning, So score!!! We have purchased our nursery chair!!

My allergies are kicking my ass today. It's super windy out today. And hot. It feels like getting hit in the face with a blowdryer on HI while it blows nasty allergens into my nose. My head, neck, and ears are throbbing and I can't quit blowing my nose. Over today.

My ILs are very nice people but my MIL is a little high strung. My H is an only child and she micro manages him. They were just here this weekend and I have no idea how i'm going to survive after the baby is born if they are staying with us. I'm sure my H is going to want them to come down.
How do you deal with OOT family/ILs post partum? Did anyone else go through it? FTM are you going to have to deal with ILs?

Can I rage for a second? I ordered a “baby watch” bathing suit from LukaLulu heavily advertised on FB (and here too in Tapatalk) 3 weeks ago, since then no shipping confirmation, no tracking information, no returned emails. I come to find out all the comments on FB warn they are a scam, orders never ship and poor quality etc. I’m kicking myself for not check reviews before ordering.

I got about the same as far as output from both. The spectra worked faster I think. but I also got many more clogs while using the spectra, which may or may not have been related to the pump. I’d probably use the spectra again as my first choice bc of the time factor.

Foxy I'm sorry that sounds stressful. Of course you have to concede some to YH but if were me I'd have a hard time not just putting my foot down that they can't stay over if it causes tension. DH's mom is living and I met her twice when dating but he has no contact now... She has some extreme bipolar and is extremely toxic and honestly just a cruel manipulative person, so I support his choice to just ignore her... Though he sometimes second guesses knowing we're having her grandbaby, the risk of her creating intense stress is just too high.

sunshiney yay for the deals! Love it! thelittleredm hope you feel better. Breathe Right nose strips help me a lot during pregnancy! Foxy I love my in-laws but man, it did not go well. DH and I ended up cooking all the meals, cleaned, and I ended up collapsing on the steps because I was doing too much and my body was still recovering from delivery. Thankfully I was not holding the baby at the time. They also considered my husband's paternity leave their opportunity to have him help them with their projects and take them to a show they wanted to attend. He spent more time during their visit with them than with his new baby and that is not an exaggeration. There were lots of tears on my part, it was frankly awful and they made everything harder for us. We learned a lot and swore never again. The next time, we didn't let them come until I was feeling ready and it was a rough delivery, so it was after two weeks. DH was very specific with them about what we expected from the visit, was good about using paternity leave for what it is meant for, and it went better than the first time but it wasn't perfect. I had to deal with snide comments for months afterward implying my incompetence because we asked for help with cooking etc. during that one visit, but I don't let that s*** under my skin like I used to anymore. On the other hand, my mom is amazing, prepares all the meals, cleans, helps with other children, does everything and tries to make sure I can rest and recover and bond with my baby. My unsolicited advice is that you have no clue what your recovery will be like, so advocate for yourself because ultimately it is about you and your baby. Nobody outside of your little family NEEDS to see your baby right away no matter what they say. Make sure DH is on the same page as you, too. Make your expectations clear to them from the start and hopefully you have a better experience than I did! And unless they are angels and amazing helpers, keep that visit SHORT. I also love @amc's hotel idea, if you can swing it. We have the guest space and they know it, so it would start WWIII for us to suggest it, but go for it if you can!

Started spotting again this afternoon, combined with insistent but mild cramps, almost red but still pink/brown. Weirdest thing was the endometrin inserter came out looking like it had clear water drops all over it so now I'm freaking out about amniotic fluid. Called and scheduled a scan for 9am. Been awake most of the night with cramps that are just too much to sleep through (I'm a baby though). Just trying to hold off thinking, might as well wait to see and deal with it then. DH is being wonderful, keeps reassuring me that no matter what happens God's I'm control and we'll only be closer. Blah.
