I need some creative ideas. I want to put the kids in the kiddy parade this weekend. They basically just march around the block of a park in a line. There a different categories for costumes- (Movie & TV Characters, Sports Figures, Historical Figures, Storybook Characters, Pets & Animals, Wheels & Wagons, Clowns & Bums, Miscellanous). They give a prize for top costume in each category, which I don't care about but I want to come up with something cute. I was going to just put them in their Incredible costumes from Halloween but realized H's obviously won't fit him anymore. What ideas do you have that are easy to make with things I have at home or cheap to buy? It would be best if N and H can coordinate so they're in the same category joelies i know you're good with costumes

Thanks for sharing the link to Cher's butt thread peachsmama, I'm laughing in my office. Cher I wish I had good news for you, but I still have them 3.5 years later. It's no fun. I won't even tell you my mom's comment when I asked her about them. And I have a friend whose H had to have his surgically removed. I'll pray for your butt woman!

I slept in today. Well the boy woke up at 5, so I was up for a few hours and then went back to bed. Maybe I napped today? I'm not sure.

We love you, Vino! Just because we aren't close enough to drop by your house for large glasses of wine doesn't mean we aren't friends! We just drink and chat from afar. I mean, we all talk way more than most non internet friends!

flamingo Thank you. My Mom threw in my face last night 'you have no friends and I'm your only support' comment. Well Mom, I've had to be at home every night since B was born because either MH is away or when he is home the kids haven't taken well to him doing a routine that I can do with my eyes closed. Pretty hard to find friends and keep raltionships when I can't ever go out. Like she has no idea that it's all I think about and how much it bothers me, but thanks for the kick when I'm already down. Oof, that's pretty low. I'm sorry. I can empathize with the friend thing--totally get it. It's not just you--building and maintaining friendships is really tough at this phase in our lives, IMO. I feel like I maintain even local friendships via text and FB, vs. getting together in person. I've probably become too dependent on my mom for companionship while we've lived here, and part of that was intentional (since I knew we'd be moving), but I'm really going to have to force myself to get out there and mingle when we move. Which is definitely tougher when you have 2 little ones at home. I think the key (for me, anyway) is going to be going to things like MOPS, maybe a Stroller Strides-type thing...places that are OK to take the kids during the day where you can also meet/socialize with other moms. Sorry, did not mean to make that about me...just wanted to emphasize that you are not alone. I kind of feel like I'm dating or something...a woman in a FB group I'm in reached out to me b/c we she saw in my profile pic that I was wearing Lilly, and she loves Lilly too. Turns out our kids are super close in age and we're going to be living near them once we move. We've been chatting online as we both sell our homes, pick out preschools, etc. (insert Napoleon Dynamite "chatting online all day" gif here). It's so weird but also kind of reassuring, like, "Ok, I have ONE sort-of-friend there!" And then I'm like, "this is what my life is now..." lol.

Does anyone have an idea of something to send to a friend who is struggling after just having a baby (typical exhausted mom stuff)? I got her a really nice shower gift so I don't want to spend a ton. Just a little pick me up. Bonus if I can Amazon Prime it.

flamingo I'm glad you have one kinda friend before moving. It must have taken a lot of courage for her to reach out. It's so hard to make friends as an adult.

Hi. I tried logging in earlier but no dice. vino You are doing an awesome job and F your mom. She sounds a lot like my mom, always negative. Well we spent the morning getting O a haircut, then the chiropractor, then took O to the pediatrician for a cough (he's fine). Now I'm letting him eat powdered donuts because he was so well behaved and Z is napping. Later I'll either take them to the mall or pool. MH will be out of town early next week and I'll be solo with the kids. Not looking forward to it. I would ask my babysitter to come one night but she's Muslim and is fasting so I don't feel it's right to ask her to babysit during her holy month. I guess I'll suck it up and try to be a good parent.

vino, that makes me so angry for you. It's hard. Like flamingo said, it's like dating at this stage in our lives. And when you are always with the kids, it's even harder. My bff lives 15 minutes from me, and I almost never see her. I have been out of the house on "social" activities without kids exactly 2 times since B was born (10+ months ago) for all the same reasons. MH has barely been home and when he is home, the kids are just used to me doing everything. It's hard. F her for making you feel like shit about it.

MH is out of town again, and I feel like S is going to be upset he's gone for father's day. The good news is that after this week, his work calms down until August, so he'll be around more regularly. Hopefully he can get more involved with the kids and I can try to get some semblance of a life for the next 8 weeks!

vino, I keep thinking of your situation with your mom. Are you able to ask her not to come for the weekend? Can you hire a mother's helper (like a local teenager) to come for a few hours in a weekend to help out a bit so your not solo for the whole time?

I also have few IRL friends =/ Like flamingo mentioned, even my "local" ones, I keep in touch w through text/FB. I wish I could become better friends with some of the moms in my neighborhood, but it seems near impossible to carve out time to get to know new ppl while I am busy w my littles. I definitely talk to you all more than any IRL ppl (aside from MH) and I bet any one of you would know more about what's going on in my day to day than my real life bestie.

I've just texted my neighbour to ask her about a babysitter I know she's used, even to take B to the park on Saturday afternoon would be an awesome help.

I don't actually know how we'd accomplish those, but we've fortunately got some time. Raggedy Anne and Andy could be somewhat easy and very cute. Or a lion and a lion tamer? I should have kept a list of the 876 ideas I considered and tossed last year!
