The only thing I judge, and judge hard, is when people use their kid's social security number and rack up debt under their name, fucking them for life. It's really not for life tho. It puts them at a disadvantage from the beginning so they have to try and catch up before they can even start. That shit follows you for life.

He was still adding H to credit cards 10 years ago. He’s pissed that we won’t give him our kids’ SSNs 😂 yeah dude, keep dreaming, that’s never gonna happen

How do you use your kids SS number for debt? Are they opening credit cards? I'm kinda scandalized by that idea Credit cards, loans, putting bills in their names...

I should probably call the bank with MH to figure out how to make sure FIL isn't doing this.

If your credit score starts at 4something, you will have to put a significant effort in to have a good score.

Every year my parents give me $ instead of more toys for their birthdays. (She gives them a few good toys and some clothes).
I use it to pay for swim lessons or things like that.
It’s not like my uncle who used to take his kids’ lunch money to buy beer.

If I’m giving a baby or probably up to 5 yo (when they start to understand money) cash or even a target gc I’m giving it so the parents can get whatever the child needs or wants most. If that’s basic necessities then I’m glad I can help

I feel very strongly against maliciously putting your kids info on accounts. And yes, that shit is malicious.

Putting a credit freeze is also an option for a minor I believe but I’m not certain and I don’t know the ins and outs and any cons to that. Credit monitoring should also be an option for anyone I think, regardless of age.

What do you mean? I don't feel it follows you for life.
Even bankruptcies and judgments don't follow you for life. I don't agree with that statement. I did not say this is a thing to do. I made no statement of condoning it. I did not speak to any of that.

For many it will take a lifetime to unfuck what someone else did.

There is nothing #regional about identity theft and the consequences thereof. Did someone post that? Where?

I think they are finally working on a law that will allow you to do that.

It's like you read one sentence and then make up all kinds of stories in your head about other shit not even said in the one sentence.

We made the mistake of turning over our son's minor owner account to him when he was a freshman in college. Money was gone in a year.

I’ve been so surprised at the number of people I have met who said their credit is fucked up from their parents using their SSN. It happens a lot more than I think people realize.
