City council ended up pretty interesting, IMHO. Out of the 12 candidates, 5 were old white men. None were elected! There were 4 incumbents running and only two were elected*. It is split 3 women (who are white) and 3 men- a son of Mexican immigrants, a Sudanese immigrant, and a black man that group up in the city's public housing. *I get this is just the primary, but this will basically be it for the election this fall I really like your city. 😁

Alexandria is definitely at a cross roads right now. I was talking with DH about what candidates I was going to vote for and how I wanted to make sure I was picking diversity (I guess the city also had my thinking). His list, surprisingly (or not?) had 4 of the old white men on it. He was all like, so, I am going to be an old white man soon... are you saying you don't like me? *eye roll* Come on, DH!

Virginia loves TK, right?! Can I start knocking on doors now? I want to say yes, Kaine has this in the bag, but crazier things have happened. I'm optimistic, but we cannot overlook Stewart. Oh I'm unwilling to take chances. I'll do anything it takes to keep Tim Kaine in that seat.

Iiiiiiiiiinteresting:
NRSC source says the election map is big, Virginia isn't on it.
I mean, they could just be assuming it's a losing battle against Kaine but kinda hoping it's because even they don't want to align themselves with Corey Stewart.

All of his awful aside, his resume and experience pale in comparison to Kaine's... I mean, city council, mayor, LtGov, Gov, Senate and VP nominee OR... PW County Supervisor? Like I said I'm not going to take anything for granted but it seems like a long shot.

Plus, TK knows how important this is. He's been making the rounds with constituent events since last fall.

I meant to check in yesterday. Mark Sanford lost his seat. But 45 tweeted out support for his opponent and she's crazy. At one point in her acceptance speech she gave the old, "the Democrats give a hand out and we give a hand up" to which I stood that ther current administration is giving a middle finger.
And her speech was aired on our local news, but her Dem opponent Joe Cunningham's was not.

Like, show me where she's progressive? Oh, she has a uterus? ok but still no?

Tim Kaine is very popular. Some DREAMers were pretty pissed at him about a couple of spending bill votes but I think he has proven his support for DREAMers pretty clearly. Nevertheless, I trust no bitch and H already knows he will see exactly four seconds of me in October bc I'll be out campaigning for Tim.
