In New Jersey, there's a chance a Democrat could fill Freylinghuysen's seat for the first time since the 1980's. Trump's victory lit a fire in this district and I have a good feeling that Dems could take that seat.

No ID is required to vote in NJ. It’s disturbing if they do ask someone. Ok it’s my own state I feel so dumb like I should know that. Thank you. NBD. I grew up there and voter ids are the same in NY, which is why I know. It can be confusing though, especially because in recent years, it was a huge issue in PA, so if you share media with them, it’s not necessarily clear what to expect.

In Alabama, incumbent Governor Kay Ivey kept her spot on the ballot despite several Republican challengers. She'll face off in November against Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox.

Also in Alabama, Martha Roby was not punished for condemning Trump after the Access Hollywood tape. She'll be on the ballot in November in a district that Trump won by 30 points. There were no successful primary challenges of any incumbent in Alabama.
CORRECTION: Roby will face a runoff in July against a party switcher. Stay tuned.

In Iowa, Progressive Democrat Fred Hubbell will challenge incumbent Governor Kim Reynolds.
In the IA 1st, Abby Finkenauer will challenge House Freedom Caucus member Rob Blum. This is one to watch, as Obama won this district in 2012. If elected in November, Finkenauer will become the youngest woman ever elected to the US House of Representatives.

Keep changing the rules, make the rules different in every state, so nobody ever knows what is what.

how in the great what did Rohrbacher get 30% of the vote??!!! I read an article where the reporter asked many residents of OC how they felt Rohrbacher was doing and the reporter noted that many felt "she was generally doing a good job". People don't even know who their reps are. I just.... I hate people.

Looks like we have elected an ass backward "I'm going to lower your taxes (even though the office for which I'm running doesn't control more than $20-30/year of parcel taxes) alternative facts spinning supervisor".
It's possible that mail in votes not yet counted will swing but unlikely. Margin is fewer than the number of postcards I wrote!!!!
But guys, my taxes will be so low and my roads will be so good because she says so. Efff.

Do you think anything can be read into how many votes were counted per party? Because across the board, Dem turnout was *at least* 2:1 over Republicans here in NM. Oh and the 44 (literally) Libertarians got the joy of voting in their first official primary. 🙄
Overall voter turnout was 28%, which is pretty decent for a primary, sadly.
ETA 44 in my county. I'm sure there are dozens more across the state.

I can’t believe Menedez won. WTF. It’s really disappointing that the Democratic Party didn’t throw themselves behind another candidate bc people wanted another option. McCormick was an outsider running a late campaign without a lot of funding and she still got 38%.

Utter chaos in the CA 49th, as predicted (this is the seat being vacated by Issa). I expect recounts there. It looks like Democrats escaped the threat of huge lockouts. There are still a couple of districts to keep a close eye on but Democrats should be proud of the effort made in California. These jungle primaries are nuts. Such a sigh of relief this morning.

Good to hear things are better statewide at least.

Mimi Walters is looking vulnerable in the CA 45th. She voted for ACA repeal and people are not happy. She captured just 52% of the vote while her democratic challengers took 40%. People are also very unhappy about the changes to the tax code. Something like 47% of her constituents take the SALT deduction, with an average of $13,000 which is obviously higher than the new cap of $10,000. I'm really hoping OC Dems and Katie Porter can get their messaging together. This is not Trump country and Mimi votes in lock step with him. She needs to go.

So many votes still not counted here. Apparently there were tons of mail in ballots turned in on election day (ohai, two from my house...). New results at 5pm today and crossing everything that this supervisor position swings.
Mostly though just so damn glad turnout wasn't as low as it seemed on election night.

Primary day for us in Maine today! And the first time using ranked choice voting for the gubernatorial primary election. I thought the ballot was well designed and straight forward. We also voted on a people's veto to override the state legislature's efforts to delay ranked choice voting in other elections so we'll see how that goes. The lines were longer than usual first thing in the morning and there were some grumblings about it being due to RCV but there were a lot on the ballot (4 sheets!) and they had to be scanned into 3 different machines so I really don't think RCV was to blame. I hope those people don't vote against it because they had to wait 15 minutes to vote.
