The Frost/Nixon interview has been coming up a lot lately, so the title seemed appropriate.
Let's start our week with another gem from Executive Time! Trump says the special "councel" is UNCONSTITUTIONAL! ALL CAPS MEAN HE'S SUPER SRS!

I truly do not think he knows what the Constitution actually is. It's just a buzzword to him.

I can kind of understand how some younger trumpers might just follow along with whatever he says and bury their heads in the sand, especially after listening to slowburn and hearing how Nixon’s approval rating was still so high with his base until the tapes came out. What I don’t understand is how the older generation, like my ILs, who literally went through this already with Nixon, don’t see the same damn gaslighting and denial as before, and stop to question that maybe everything Trump is saying isn’t the truth.
GD I hope there are tapes of something incriminating because my faith is gone that anything less will dissuade his base.

This is going to sound incredibly harsh, but my theory is his base doesn’t care about any of this. What they care about is that there is someone in the White House that loves straight white people as much as they do. Someone who has normalized racism. Nixon’s Silent Majority is alive and well and it does not like all of these pesky women, people of color, or god forbid LGBTQIA individuals who want rights and opportunities.
My apologies. I know this is oversimplification. I just can’t shake this feeling that so much of it has to do with an undercurrent of racism and fear. Which then leads me to swing the other way and say maybe it actually is that simple. The Silent Majority isn’t the majority anymore and they aren’t going to go down without a fight for their “values.”

Unfortunately, I think Trump has done such a good job of branding anything negative as "fake", even if there is a tape or something solidly incriminating, it won't make a difference with his base. The p***y-grabbing tape is real and there are still people who think it was doctored. And don't even get me started on the people who won't vote against him/Republicans because the economy's good. Yeah, that bottom is going to fall out. Hard.

45 says he has the right to pardon himself. www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-declares-absolute-right-pardon-himself-n879746Giuliani admits that would probably lead to impeachment. Honestly, I don't know if it would with current congressional leadership. Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are perfectly fine looking the other way as long as they get to screw over all the non-male, non-white, non-rich Americans. I would hope they would have some integrity, but I just don't know.

Most older Republicans I know have only gotten their news from Fox for years and if that's all you watch because everything else is the "liberal media" then it's even easier to see how they are so deluded.

My take on Trump pardoning himself and everything else is just.....well I think it's his lawyers throwing the hail mary honestly, and they know it's futile. Their client went on Lester Holt and said the reason he fired Comey was because of Russia. Then months later he said that's not why he fired him. He is constantly contradicting himself and telling lies. I think they know the reality, if he gets in front of Mueller, he weill fuck himself and his Presidency and get trapped. They know it. This is a desperate attempt to keep him away from a potential interview that would very well be the end of him.

FTS. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Colorado baker who refused to make a cake for a same sex couple because of religious objections. Ruling 6-2.
However it is described as a narrow ruling.

Our country needs an update indictment today. Someone big and close to that traitorous gasbag. If the GOP don’t stand up for this country and it’s principles, I fear for the path we are heading in. Cheeto has to be put in check. It seems that right now Mueller is the only one who can do this.

Only the number of justices in favor of the baker is surprising. ETA: I thought it would be a 5-4 ruling. Who didn't vote/abstained?

I have faith that other world leaders understand that shitbag does not speak for the majority of Americans. The job of the next president is going to be cleanup and repair. I hope they continue to target red state products for tariffs.

Pete Williams on MSNBC believes that the ruling is very limited to this case. It’s not the end all.

Only the number of justices in favor of the baker is surprising. The only reason I am not completely defeated by this is it sounds like the court decided that the state failed to give the baker proper religious consideration and the court expressly said in its ruling that this will not necessarily be a precedent for anti-discrimination rulings in future cases like this. So basically it came down to a technicality the state missed in its case.

Kennedy is pretty sensitive to religious liberty issues and I assumed the other four conservative judges would be on the side of the baker as well.

I hope they continue to target red state products for tariffs. I saw Trudeau said something to a similar effect when he announced the proposed Canadian tariffs. Did we talk about this last week? “In closing, I want to be very clear about one thing: Americans remain our partners, friends, and allies. This is not about the American people. We have to believe that at some point their common sense will prevail,” he [Trudeau] said in the type of language that successive U.S. administrations have used to describe recalcitrant regimes such as Iran. “But we see no sign of that in this action today by the U.S. administration.” Scary and frightening AF though. www.newsandguts.com/link/atlantic-trudeau-reaches-breaking-point-trump/

This investigation feels like it's going to take forever. Such a tangled web.

I think (hope) we are nearing something. This weekend he distanced himself from Manafort. He did this to Papadopolous and Gates. We know what happened after that.

This is my understanding as well- the ruling is limited to this specific case, and they even said it may very well go differently in future cases. I also saw it was 7-2? Not sure until the writings come out

I am really struggling to understand how established GOP can remain quiet in regards to the 'I'm just gonna pardon everyone' speak. I'm really struggling to understand how people I thought once were principled (even if I hated their principles) can sit silent for this being done in the name of THEIR party and not say anything. Things are getting really to the level of 'dictator'. Thus far some of the checks and balances have held out over Trump. But it's only been a year.
And I'm not really sure how any nation is going to trust a treaty commitment with us after we have shown just how quickly we can abandon it.
(Sorry I usually lurk here, but sometimes it just gets to be a bit too much)
