thinking about this a lot. saw something on FB about a 12 yo girl that got to help the Dr delivery her baby brother.? what do you think about that? I thought it was a bit odd myself. who are you letting in the delivery room for delivery and who have you let stay in the past? DH and doc/nurses only. I told DH the only thing I want from him is to remind me that I don't need pain medications and that I've labored without medications before, also that the transition is the hardest part. I don't want him to touch me or speak to me otherwise. I think it could be a really cool experience for a young person. I didn't even watch a video of someone giving birth until the crowning shot of Knocked Up. laurensc927, It's gonna bug me. I'm already getting rage-y about it lmao.

Only my mom, grandma(her mom), and DH were in the room when DD was born. I didn't really want my grandma there, but she sort of invited herself. It ended up working out well since she was a retired L&D nurse and was incredibly supportive through the delivery.
My water broke at 4am with DS on the one weekend all of our babysitters were out of town. DD (5yo) came to the hospital with us and hung out until DH's work friend was able to pick her up around 8:30am. The nurses were very sweet with DD while she was there. They took her to the lounge to watch cartoons when I was being poked or checked and found snacks for her. My mom took over around 2:30pm, after she had driven the 10 hours from her house to our house alone. DH was the only person in the delivery room.
Hopefully, this time around we will have someone available to hang with both kids and won't have to take with to the hospital until after the baby is born. DNW babies delivering other babies.

birdsofafeather I plan on having MH and my mom in the room. My mom was a doula for many years, so I'm hoping I'll like having her with me.

When I was in 8th grade, we had a career day where we shadowed someone with a career we were interested in, then wrote a report. I chose to shadow a relative who was a NICU nurse. I was allowed to attend two vaginal birth with her.
Um...I chose to stand behind the privacy curtain for both after about 2 minutes of the first birth. I almost got to watch a C-section, but it got delayed. Anyway, I'm not a nurse and have no desire to watch anymore deliveries.

laurensc927, Target! It's listed online for baby girls, but was in my local store in the boy section. Unisex, FTW!

laurensc927, My partner was very supportive when I had DD but then when I was out on maternity leave (which was 5.5 weeks) he got annoyed and I feel like he has held it against me ever since. It's a hard situation to explain. We are kind of at a crossroads in our partnership and the pregnancy just comes at a bad time for that.

Ugh, I am not looking forward to potty training, but I'm really hoping DD will be ready to at least day train by the time she's two so we can try and not have two in diapers. This is my hopes too with DS.

This child has moved from being all up in my right side, all up to the top of my belly to now the left side right down the bottom.
I noticed the past couple days she hadn't been as active in the evening (it's only ever a handful rolls/kicks anyway) so I decided to check up on her, found her HB waaay to the left when for the past 2 weeks she's been on the right. Lady please be in a good position for the U/S Wednesday!

I really hope I don't go into early labour between 34-36 weeks as my parents are going on holiday to Mexico for 2 weeks. Lovely for them but an anxious time for me lol
I only really let me mum and dad have DS, because I don't really trust anyone else (and H's mum never asks) and the plan is for my Dad to have DS while I get this baby out.
I've already thought it out just in case I do, that my MIL will have to come to our house and look after DS, I will write his routine down and what to do etc. It's not like H can run back and fourth to check on him as we live 40 mins away. If (touch wood) I do go into labour earl than H will have to have a stern word with her as she is the type of person to just call over loads of people to help her as 'she won't be able to deal with it' and I'm sorry but I don't want loads of people in my house, and I want DS to be as chilled as possible as me or H won't be there and we are obviously his favourite people. Please don't come out before 37 weeks DD!

I went into labor the night my ILs left to go visit my SIL in DC for the week. I was not sad about that. I am hoping this time my mom is available to watch DS while we have the baby/are in the hospital. I do not trust my ILs alone with him and he has never been with them without us. We live only about 10 minutes from the hospital so I am planning that DH will go home at night and sleep so my mom doesn't have to stay at our house the whole time.
Only DH, myself, and medical personnel will be in the room again this time. Since I was induced at like 6am and he was born at 7:57am there wasn't much time for anyone to get to the hospital and it was nice to not have to worry about anyone else. If we didn't have to have someone watch DS, we might not even tell anyone until after the baby was here.

Also, hi. I am at work. I am so mentally exhausted with this software stuff. Ugh.
H is home with DD since DCP is sick. He needed to use up some PTO anyway because he is at the point where he loses it if he doesn't take some. MUST BE NICE.

FX for the potty trainers. DD is pee trained but not poop. She pooped in her underwear this weekend during my sister's shower and it was messy. But she did say "thank you for cleaning my butt, Mommy." So... At least she appreciates me. Lol.

Only H was in the room when DD was born. Everyone else waited in the lobby. My dad kept checking by our door and let everyone know when he heard a cry. ❤

LOL no to DD being in the room when this kid is born. Hell no. DNW to have to worry about her as I am pushing a human out of my vag.
Plus, if it is flu season, it is likely kids under 12 won't be allowed in the maternity ward at all.

All parents and my sister were in the room while I was in labor, until it was time to push. I had an epidural and I was nauseous the whole time so basically everyone was just watching me barf and try to sleep, and watching the Olympics in between.

It will just be me and my husband. Someone asked my mom if she was going to be there and she laughed and said she already delivered 4 kids. She didn't need to be there for anymore.
Thankfully all the family waits at home until we ask them To come. I couldn't handle them all hanging around the hospital waiting. Would drive me crazy. And I love my family and my in-laws. But still would drive me crazy.

birdsofafeather, I had my H and mom in for delivery. I'll probably do the same this time. I don't need an audience so everyone else has to go. I think it just depends on what you're comfortable with, definitely don't be afraid to speak up or have some do it for you.

The Olympics really saved us when DS had to be admitted (and then readmitted) to the PICU.

laurensc927 - DH did that last time - went to the gym and didn't notice that I called him 10 times. Granted, I was freaking out about a tick on the dog, but it could have been a pregnancy emergency. I was livid and left him a not so nice message about how when your wife is pregnant, you must always take her calls. And yet, had to remind him to turn his ringer on this pregnancy!! You are not alone

It helps that I was induced in the dead of night, but I didn't want anyone but MH in the room wtih me. Ever. And that's all I had... at first. Labour for me was fine because it was just me and the nurse for most of it, then MH made it back for the last half hour.
But the last stage of pushing was absolute hell because they knew there was meconium in my amniotic fluid and they knew DD was huge, so there were SO MANY PEOPLE in the room when DD finally came out. There were like three nurses doing measurements and suction on DD plus two nurses literally stripping me down totally naked in the bed AND switching the sheets out from underneath me because I had so much amniotic fluid (even with them breaking my water not two hours before).
The nurse, as she wrestled the sheet out from underneath me with the doctor trying to talk me through delivering the placenta: "There is baby poop EVERYWHERE."
Never thought I'd be naked on a table in front of almost 10 strangers, but there I was. It was not the best.

I am very anxious in a good way and not-so-good way for my anatomy scan on Wednesday. I'm super ready to see LO again and get some measurements done, but I'm feeling a bit weird and nervous in a way I didn't last time because I have been feeling movement but not super consistently. I don't think I will be able to focus on work on Wednesday morning, but fortunately I only have an hour of teaching in the 3 hours I'll be at work, heh.

I need to vent...
SIL is getting married this weekend, so MIL and H's grandmother are flying in from OOT on Thursday. They requested spaghetti and meatballs for dinner at my house on Sunday. Today MIL tells us that SIL's friends and a random aunt may be coming too, so instead of 6 of us, it'll be 9 for dinner. I'm not sure I want to make spaghetti now for that many people. I'm so annoyed.
