Taitai thanks!! I’ve actually never had a skincare routine which is sort of not great. The past year I’ve been trying to dip my toes in and try some things but money has been prohibitive. The things I’ve looked up so far has been pretty reasonable though!

The things I’ve looked up so far has been pretty reasonable though! I love how flexible AB is too, price-wise. Cosrx is a really great brand, and the prices are so reasonable. I loooooove their 96 snail mucin. T'iam makes an excellent vitamin C serum for like $15. Skinfood, Tony Moly, and Innisfree are also more mid-range and pretty wallet friendly. Then there's Sulwhasoo, Sheseido, and Amore Pacific, which are more high-end (but the products are super nice). It's fun to mix things up and try different things. fifty shades of snail, snow white and the asian pear, and fanserviced-b are my favorite bloggers.

Taitai, bookmarking!! I listened to a few podcasts this morning about the basics and it's definitely appealing to me. I have a bunch of fine lines that I have been seriously lamenting over wanting botox (which I don't really want to have to resort to yet - $$$)... Maybe some of this stuff will help!

A good vitamin C serum can help, because vit C helps the skin produce collagen. Daily sunscreen application is also the number one anti-aging thing you can do for your skin. Japanese sunscreens are the best for face sunscreen - very effective and they don’t feel greasy/heavy at all. Finally, products with hyaluronic acid in them can help, as they aid in hydrating and plumping the skin with moisture (so the lines aren’t as noticeable). I personally love snail and think that helps too...but I don’t think there’s been any scientific research on it. 🤷♀️

Taitai, Ooh I forgot to look into vit C. The podcast this morning did say the sunscreen should be the first purchase so I may look into that. Based on everything I read here, the MIZON Snail Repair Intensive Ampoule is currently top of the wish list so far!

Based on everything I read here, the MIZON Snail Repair Intensive Ampoule is currently top of the wish list so far! I’ve been using Biore watery essence for sunscreen. It’s very fluid, definitely like an essence vs a typical US style sunscreen. It soaks in with no greasy or tacky feeling and it has a light citrus smell. I loved the Mizon snail repair ampoule, but for the past month or so I’ve been using the Mizon all in one snail repair cream, and I like it better than the ampoule. It’s got 92% snail mucin and it has a very light lotion-like feel. It sinks in better than the ampoule with none of the mild tackiness that the ampoule has. I just love putting it on!

sakura, before yesterday I had no idea that they made reasonable sunscreens for wearing throughout the day. It is so ridiculous that this isn't a thing here! Most people don't wear it because it has a strong smell and looks super greasy. Definitely going to be ordering some!

It was either here or one of my many trips down Asian skin care rabbit holes on the internet that I discovered actual wearable sunscreen - game changer!! ETA the Biore also doesn’t run and get into my eyes the way that typical sunscreen does. Sometimes my eyes get irritated, but I’m pretty sure it just because of the sweat.

Also, I’m heading to Singapore soon and need to pick up some more sheet masks. I normally love love Naruko and Freeset donkey milk ones, but I feel like I need to expand my horizons a bit.
Any recommendations? I’m kind of done with Skinfood and Innisfree sheet masks, because I find them to be too stiff and sometimes too sticky. I like soft sheet masks that hold a lot of essence and doesn’t make the essence drip down my neck when I have it on. Welcome any ideas!

They have a ton of variety. I'm also digging hydro gel masks right now for summer time, but I haven't tried enough brands to have a favorite. Cosrx masks are my list to try next, but I need to whittle down my stash a little more before I buy anything new.

Tosowoong is also on my list to try that I had forgotten about. I wonder if they will have Papa’s Recipe masks there? I bet so - I’m going to hunt for those. Haven’t tried Cosrx masks either, but that’s a good suggestion too! I wonder if they have any snail masks. 🤔

beesquared I also love hydrogel masks and bio-cellulose masks, but I haven’t really become an expert at those either. It’s so hot here (as you know), I love sticking the hydrogels in the fridge before putting them on. So refreshing and cooling 😎

CestLaVie Love that!!! I hope you have fun filling that out! Keep us updated as you try new things, or feel free to ask for recs! I’m also going to quickly plug the Cosrx good morning low ph cleanser as the water sol cleanser. It’s awesome, lasts a long time, cheap ($11 on soko glam right now), and very popular- though there is a strong tea tree oil scent that bugs some people.

The first one that got me really into it was an interview with Charlotte Cho on The Skinny Confidential. I listened to 3-4 of the k-beauty podcast (name of the podcast) they were alright but not amazing. Lots of good info though! After that I started looking for all the interviews Charlotte cho has done because I really was interested in her take. I’ve started to listen to Behind the Beauty and she talks quite a bit about Asian skincare and I enjoy her voice too but the audio quality can be crappy at times. I have a high tolerance for meh podcasts though since I have 3+ hours a day in the car so it’s a good way to get that info!

I finally finished breastfeeding my son, so now I’m just giving my skin a chance to settle down. Then I’m going to start tweaking my routine from acne management to anti-aging. I can finally add in a retinol/retinoids! 🙌
I have the cosrx good morning cleanser, but I don’t want to start using it until my skin clears so I can tell if it breaks me out or not. I’m weirdly sensitive to tea tree oil, but sometimes I’m totally fine with it as an ingredient.
I love love love the Banila Co Clean It Zero for an oil cleanser, but it’s kind of pricey. I was thinking of switching to Kose softymo speedy oil cleanser, has anyone has experience with it? Or any other recommendations for an oil cleanser they love?

sakura I just used up my banila purity and I purchased the kose softymo oil cleanser as a replacement. So far I like it! It gets the job done and doesn’t break me out. I also like the price point, and it has a good slip to it. I will probably repurchase once it’s used up. Let me know how your foray into retinoids goes! I am still breastfeeding, so I haven’t been able to try them, but I want to once LO is weaned.

DH had picked up a Clinique 3 step skin care set for me a few weeks ago and I’ve been trying to just be really consistent with that so that’s been really good to have a skin care routine. I bought a few masks to try them out so I’m excited to do that! I’ve been binge listening to the snailcast and love it. So I’m still here, reading everything and waiting for my pennies to pile up enough to grab a few things

Banila Clean It Zero vs Kose Softymo Oil - these are two different forms, right? Balm vs oil? I have the Clinique balm and the Trader Joe's cleansing oil, but I find the balm more user friendly in that it doesn't run through my fingers.
Would like to try a retinol for the #11s in my forehead, but have just started the breastfeeding journey.

CestLaVieClinique was a good way to start a multi step routine for me, too. In the long run, I had to figure out different products that worked better for my skin, which tends to be normal or slightly dry. When I was using the Clinique soap, I didn't realize that I wasn't supposed to feel tight skin afterwards and I needed a more gentle cleanser. These days, the Cerave hydrating cleanser works well and is found in drugstore and big box retailers. The Clinique clarifying lotion (toner step) was too drying and irritating due to the alcohol and menthol content. I found that I preferred a hydrating toner to an astringent toner. I read about AB toners with hyaluronic acid and started with the Klairs supple preparation toner and now use the Hada Labo Gokujyun lotion. I found both the Klairs and the Hada Labo on Amazon. Others like Thayers witch hazel toner. Given that the soap and the toner were drying in themselves, probably did not help me in thinking that the Clinique Dramatically Different lotion (the original formula, before the gel) wasn't moisturizing enough to me. I really liked the Clinique Moisture Surge gel cream, though. After using up a couple of jars (ouch for my wallet), I found a good alternative in the Neutrogena Hydroboost gel cream for extra dry skin. There is a water cream variant, which has fragrance.

gldnbearz I’m definitely not a fan of the toner because it burns! I do like the moisturizer but not love, I don’t think I would buy any of the full sized products so I’m glad it’s just a sampler! Hopefully I can slowly swap stuff in 😊 I want to get an oil cleanser to go in there and replace the toner first probably. I need to do some more research because I want something that will remove fine lines as much as possible. I was looking at drunk elephant but $$$

CestLaVie I totally agree with what gldnbearz said regarding the Clinique 3 step system. It’s a good way to start a multi-step routine, but you’ll eventually find that there are alternative products that are better for your skin and also cheaper. If you are focusing on moving to a hydrating toner, I can also recommend Klairs supple prep toner. It’s a huge bottle and will last you a long time. Pyungkan Yul also makes a great hydrating toner that is even bigger and less expensive than Klairs. I don’t use a cotton pad to apply it - I just tap it into my face, so that makes it last a long time too. www.amazon.com/Pyunkang-Yul-Essence-Toner-200ml/dp/B06ZZK3YJYI find that the Clinique dramatically different moisturizer breaks me out, but I tend to need lighter moisturizers because I live in a tropical environment. I like the lettuce cucumber watery emulsion from Skinfood - you can get it at Ulta and it’s cheap.
