I don’t have a problem with people asking me to donate to a charity. I’m also not a person who feels any guilt for saying no. Like when they ask me at petco if I want to donate a dollar to homeless pets—press the x and keep it moving.

I can only eat breakfast food at breakfast but can eat other food anytime. I often have leftover dinner for breakfast. As far as post partum, I want two giant stacks of pancakes cause I haven't had those in months. Dammit. I have been feeling sick all morning and pancakes sound amazing to me right now.

I fucking hate Facebook but is it really that bad if the money goes to charity? You don't have to participate. Have you seen the ads for people's fundraisers? A lot of the ones I've seen basically try to guilt people into giving. And I think it's tacky to ask people to give money to charity in your honor for your birthday. Like, give your own damn money. I’ve had a lot of friends do them and never gotten an invite or notification. Maybe your friends are just shitty for setting it to “annoy” mode or something, lol. But the whole basic premise of fundraising is to guilt people into giving, so this really is no different...

There was a Cheryl's Cookies store in my hospital with DS2. I had my cookie breakfast, and then my real breakfast for 3 days in a row. I was absolutely living my best life.

I don't get the hate over fundraisers. Don't like it? Don't donate. Unfollow them or unfriend them.
You are in control of your life there.

You guys can really hate on everything. I have seen a lot of bday fundraisers that have gotten huge amounts. If it’s a charity against guns, I’m guaranteed to donate. I have also donated to charities I’ve never heard of because I like the person and/or the charity. These are all donations these charities would never get, but are because of FB. Who cares how it appears or how you feel, it’s not about that. It’s about charities getting money. You’re really saying that’s a bad thing?

Well thanks to this thread I will not be taking a lunch break later.
I am now taking a breakfast break, driving to Mickey D's and getting myself some god damn hot cakes and sausage.

My conscience is clear when asked elsewhere.

My *only* qualm with the fb ones is the presumption I’ve seen with the posts as it’s usually a canned thing like “For my birthday instead of gifts I’m asking for donations to X charity.” Like wait I wasn’t getting you a gift, so....? It kind of seems book instead of card to me? I’d rather it be a more personal post like “hey I know you might not have planned to get me anything, but I’d love if you’d consider donating to this cause that’s really important to me.” Just like an acknowledgement that this is an above and beyond thing. I don’t know, it’s my own hang up. I’m not anti.

Before anyone says something, yes, I can be the change.
But, I think our group of posters has become so familiar with each other, that we’re running out of topics.

Why can't he make his own? This is been hashed over here previously. Basically I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s because he’s a selfish prick who forces his often sick spouse to get up at the crack of dawn to do something for him that he could easily do for himself. Yeah, that's a no from me.

Basically, FB allows users to create a fundraiser in honor of their birthday. The user picks the charity it will go to, the deadline, and the end goal. FB then promotes the fundraiser on your friends' feeds. It's fucking shitty. I hate it. I fucking hate Facebook but is it really that bad if the money goes to charity? You don't have to participate. Yeah, I am not sure what is bad about it?

I have this idea about our group/ board.
Everyone has value, here. Every person contributes their own unique mark on the collective, and we are what we are because of the whole of it, of us. It’s sometimes hard to see and feel that (your personal value) in the moment, and as Scout once said, everyone feels like the board whipping boy at some point. It’s hard to see past that moment when you’re in it, but the value add and your contribution to the community are still valid and real, even when it doesn’t feel that way.

So she did a fundraiser for money to aid PR for her birthday. I thought it was nice.

Breakfast is overrated. It takes too much effort to plan for a healthy breakfast. When I do, my stomach can’t even really deal with it. Apparently this is an UO according to the hospital staff. I’m totally down for coffee though! I feel like I’m living in Groundhog Day. Your doctors are telling you you need nutrients. Eat your breakfast. Dazed: "I need to get out of this hospital ASAP!" Doctors: //provide specific instructions on how to get discharged Dazed: "lol, no." Also Dazed: Why won't they let me out?!?

I agree and always liken this board to a dysfunctional family. Sometimes your family members annoy the ever living fuck out of you, or your aunt punches her BIL at Thanksgiving dinner. But at the end of the day, you love them all because you are family.

I honestly hate these kinds of posts. It's been years and years of many of us posting together. We've managed to survive and continue to chat. And it was brought up in the fucking OP and is obviously topical. You could just not participate instead of doing this meta-sociological retrospective on the state of the board. Plenty of people are friends (or... you know... even married) for years and years and become extremely familiar without running out of topics. I kind of love that we are in this phase of evolution of our forum, actually.
