I love this thread. I've wanted to move to Canada for years, but we'd fail the immigration requirements. Are they still looking for people to re-populate Cape Breton? I volunteer! what makes you think you'd fail? MH and I emigrated 8 years ago and my current office is probably 80% not Canadian born, most are currently working towards their permanent residence.

@gentleapricot I wanted to point out that the "northern" discussion is generally very far north. Like 20 hours' drive north of the American border. I live about 7 hours' drive north of the Montana border and in a major Canadian city. Our industries are oil, agriculture, and government, mainly.
Also "major city" here = 1 million population.

Constantly trying to get him arrested. lol if you watch OLN and want the tea Omg this is excellent tea The dogs are a front to lure polar bears in. He leaves them out, it brings bears in, then give tourists cheaper bear tours than the legit ones. Then he claims "Oh I was just feeding my dogs." Realistically though if the bear has already been to jail they will shoot it for being habituated to town. So he is responsible for a lot of bears dying because he's trying to scam money off of tourists. He's a terrible human.

I think it was our lack of in-demand training. H's degree is in hospitality management and he co-owns a restaurant business. I'm a sahm that did not complete college. If we emigrated, he'd be starting a business there.

Are the rules different for those from other Commonwealth countries? no they are the same for every country. It's a pretty simple points based system that looks at education, language, type of job, family ties, Canadian experience (ie have you lived here / are living here already). Your country of origin is not a pointed factor

Churchill is awesome to visit. My BIL worked for the hydro company and went up there for 5 months. I visited with my sister. It was nice.
Expensive to get to though. And hard. But oh so worth it.
I love the mountains. Won’t ever live there- but I love visiting.
Summers are hot, mosquito infested but oh so fun. The yellow covered canola fields in full bloom, the golden wheat under the blue sky. Fields and fields of sunflowers. It never gets old.
I spend my summer at the lake.
My kids will grow up helping Daddy and Grandpa on the fields. The sight of combines on the field still amazes me.

If he were starting a business and investing and planning on hiring Canadians, he'd qualify for a different stream.

But a harvest dinner is the best dinner. Some really great memories.

I spent a semester in Calgary, Alberta and which is the Texas of Canada, except with skiing and better chip flavors. I want to go back someday and visit Banff again, I think it's one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I have only been to Calgary's airport, the city is high on my list of places to check out. Obviously I need to be there for the Stampede at least once! I hope leatherpants and hippo will brag more about Alberta cities because I don't have a lot to add. Banff tho. I can do Banff and Lake Louise! And Jasper! . I want to go to there. (Insert Liz lemon gif)

Let's not forget the delightful Mont Tremblant. It's great in the winter but also really lovely in the summer.
