lahdeedah we have a test to see which pre k or k class he gets but that's it. It's to determine how far along he is so he's placed st the right level and not bored because he knows it already or falls behind. cagoldi from what I have been told he is fine. Thanks for asking.

Cadence didn't qualify for prek at the elementary school. It seemed like they view it more for ESL, military, and low income families. Unless I'm reading it wrong. She is currently in prek at the preschool and then will move to the Apk class, which they have apparently renamed junior kindergarten. That's the way ours is too, for free pre-k. But they also have several slots for tuition based pre-k. Our county is need based for Pre-K..but in the city (1 mile away) they have Pre-K 3 - but it's a lottery and super hard to get in since it's so popular. I'm team universal prek for all.

flamingo C is definitely shorter than B and is in a 13. They look like skis. He’d probably do a 12.5 but a lot of kids shoes don’t come in half’s.

Hi! No snow but we were delayed at work and left early yesterday so it’s all been catch up. Plus my work BFF leaves for the training academy Monday so we’ve been doing long lunches. I’m going to miss him. And another coworker that I’m close with is moving cross country at the end of April so I’ve been busy planning his party too.
Anyway not much else here. Plugging along with recovery. In some pain tonight but not horrible. Hopefully it’s all upward from here.
Miss you guys. Hopefully I can be more present tomorrow.

Also the thought of K gives me chills. I have been totally fine with all transitions/birthdays etc but I got an email to register for K by mistake a few weeks back and had a panic attack. Now I’m misty thinking of my boy growing up.
Although he did tell me the other day that when he grows up we will get married. Although incestuous, i was flattered.

Yeah, I think he probably could've taken a 12.5 but the Sperry's go from 12 to 13. Also, the 12's had velcro but the 13's did not. I guess that officially makes him a big kid? :cue wracking sobs: eta: glad you are feeling ok and hope things are onward and upward from here.

Hi!!! BTW! Work was crazy. I had to be in at 545 for a walk. The vendor was 45 minutes and the project manager was 1 1/2 late. Once the vendor got there we started without her. She didn't have a problem with that.

Our pre-k is need based. I also consider pre-k to be a term specific to preschool the year prior to K with preschool covering more years. I was talking to a mom of a pre-k kid at our daycare and she was mentioning a sight word test the class has that day.
We have been in a size 13 since birthdays. I just checked the other day to make sure he hasn't outgrown and thankful he hasn't. Although I do already have 2 Plae shoes in the next size up.

Cadence's class started sight words last week. She can't even recognize all her letters 100% of the time, don't try throwing words in there too! They gave us the sheet, we looked at it once. She remembered what shapes the words were in, but not the words. "T h e", what does that spell? "Idk, the word in the circle?" Good job. *Shrug*
She can almost spell her name correctly 75% of the time.

Whew. It's been a day. I've been out running around registering C for our young 5's program and buying a new car. Of course I didn't have C's birth certificate or the title for my old car since I'm a disorganized mess, so that added to the chaos. However, my little A finally started gaining some weight and hit the 4lb mark!!

Back from burrata and canoli and snuggling with my trusty heating pad. Heaven.
Re: Pre-k. Our district has a lottery for pre-school 3's and 4's. We did not get selected with my son, but Evie got in at 3 and will automatically move to 4's next year. I love the program. In January I will be applying for Theo!
My son did a Kindergarten eval before he started. Cutting out paper, writing letters, counting etc. I asked at the time if we would get the results and they said no, unless there was a concern.
Re: Art projects and school work, does anyone else's school use SeeSaw or Artsonia? They are apps where the teachers post pics/vids of the kids and their work. I love to see what they are working on and have things to talk about from their day.
We got through middle school relatively unscathed. High school is giving me heart palpitations, but so far we are doing pretty well. Parenting a young man is a complicated and amazing thing. I look at him and then at my little boys and wonder where the time went. He's so grown, but I still see my baby ❤️

T is in pre-k 3 this year and will be pre-k 4 next. Kindergarten has a screening but I'm not sure they really do much with the information unless there are big concerns. No one ever told me how DS1 or DD did on it. I was there in a gym but they moved table to table and met with a speech teacher, a kinder teacher, and a skills teacher and I wasn't right there with them. Yes I forgot, Maddie did this too. There was no "test" but they did have her move to a couple of different tables to complete basic activities. We got no feedback. I know they did not have 100% participation either and that was the closest to assessing their abilities. I don't even think they did much from whatever information they gleaned from this. My nephew did the screening and they told my sister that he may not be ready and that a year of pre-k may be beneficial. But it’s just a suggestion and you can still send your kid to K if you want (which is what my sister did and he’s doing great. I think he basically refused to do something in the screen that he knows how to do).

flamingo - We have no widespread pre-K or pre-school programs in CT either, which is actually the constant hold-up to changing the kindergarten eligibility age. Because there is such disparity between the cities and the (often freakishly) wealthy suburbs, we have one of the worst achievement gaps in the country. Most wealthier families red shirt their kids and apparently it's not unheard of for parents to petition for early entry for early January kids when they can't afford the childcare. So you've got older kids with a couple years of quality early education under their belt being compared to younger kids who were often babysat by older relatives and the TV. All the teachers we've talked to said not to worry, the issue isn't with kids like Colin... but he's my baby. Here we have “head start” which is a preschool for lower income families. You have to apply and there are only so many slots.

I just looked at the website and it looks like we have a similar set up as you. We have the head start program and then a fee-based preschool through the district. I looked at it last year (I’m just remembering now) during my preschool research and H was too young at the time. It’s only at some of the elementary schools in town and it’s a lot more expensive than H’s current school.

If ours is the same price as last year, including after school care (which they’ve never offered for pre-k), I’ll save $100/mo. They haven’t made a decision on the price of pre-K yet though.
HURRY UP PEOPLE!

I see now there is a tuition based prek program for our district. I'll just stick with Cadence's current school.
Her friend R is coming back next week. He previously moved to a different school. The three musketeers will be together again....of course it is her and two boys. I'm also interested to see the dynamic after this summer when several of her friends go off to kinder.

No more kindergarten talk please!!! N will do one more year of preschool Before kindergarten. She will switch from TTh to mwf mornings
We kicked butt at volleyball tonight and are 2 time defending league champs! I really wasn’t expecting it. Since we won the first game we had an hour break so we went to the bar. Then back after we won again. I just crawled into bed and don’t feel tired at all. Must be the nap I took today..
Looking forward to a quiet wfh day tomorrow!

Glad to hear A is gaining weight! wineallthetime Sounds like most people at least has some sort of skills test. Our county offers a few public PreK programs at select elementary schools, but I’m not sure of the process to get in. I know you have to apply or be put on a list. When I decided to switch M’s school last year, I knew I wasn’t going to look into it because I didn’t want him to have to move schools again so soon. dapostrophe I believe M’s school uses SeeSaw as of this school year. I think they start in second or third grade, though.

Re school, 99.9% of the kids go to school the minute they turn four, even tough it isn’t mandatory until five. Schools are free (except for a voluntary contribution between 50-350 depending which school you go to). Private school doesn’t really exist over here.
A couple of years ago they introduced a new cut of age for 1st grade. Kids who turned 6 before December 31 go to the first grade in August preceding that, so there are now 5yo in the first grade... Our school doesn’t abide by this rule, so ds will be in this class until August 2020. And I cried the first day I brought him to school, it was a huge milestone. For me it felt like that was the moment I had to start sharing him with the rest of the world iso keeping him safe in my little private bubble.

I will start this off by saying that apparently I’m very picky. Has anyone found cute tankini toddler suits? I like to get H a couple swimsuits for the summer and I already have a one piece for her. I like neon colors or florals but haven’t found anything I love at my usual places.
