ohreally I have a high bar because my first doula and I hit it off immediately and she was so good! I have friends that have had doulas and are more meh on the experience though because of personality clashes.

catladymeow, as a fellow pseudo crunchy, I wanted to hire one but it was out of her budget. Instead, we got a doula to just come by after the birth to encapsulate my placenta. I hope you find one that meshes well!

Anatomy scan went well. DD kept calling the baby a jellyfish. She will be sorely disappointed in another 4 months. We managed to get a pretty clear 3D pic of a big smile, and a yawn.

catladymeow - I actually would really love to hire a doula but I don’t think I could convince my husband that it’s a necessary expense.

I think I might be one of the few pseudo crunchy moms on here so I don't know if anyone else is hiring a doula. We had one for dd and she was amazing. Alas we live somewhere different now and doulas aren't really a thing here yet. We interviewed one tonight but we would be her first clients and I didn't really click with her. Hmph. Back to the drawing board. I had a doula with my rainbow baby, and honestly I didn’t need her. She’s a sweet lady and probably would normally have been great help but the nurses at my hospital are amaaaaazing. My doctor called when I was 30 weeks with my loss history, so I had the head nurse calling weekly just to say hi and see how I was doing. When I went in for my induction, every.single.nurse. I had was so loving and sweet, the doula faded into the background. I hope you find one that fits right! I know having someone besides family to support and advocate for you is so important.

pickles wow those sound like amazing nurses! The nurses I had were pretty much useless and the doctor was there for like 10 minutes, caught the baby, and then peaced out. There is so much variability in the care you get from different medical professionals!

I had a similar hospital experience to pickles! Honestly the best nurses through my delivery, and I feel like they respected my wishes - but I also had a very uncomplicated induction/birth. I think now being familiar with my hospital, etc. I'm less worried that they won't be open to my desires this time around.

TGIF! Longest week ever. Yesterday's clinic ended on a crappy note and then it was a long drive to get J from daycare and home. J's mood has been much better the last couple of days. Maybe DST just really messed with him. I'm hoping the good mood continues.
I can see and feel kicks from the outside now.
I think we are going to stop by Babies R Us this weekend to see if they have any sales starting yet since they are all closing. I also need to get J a birthday present.

At work for another 45 minutes and then home to get H and DD for my anatomy scan. DD is so excited, but I remembered this morning that there is an age limit of 16 for visitors to all buildings of our hospital. I called and they said she can come, but she will need to wear a little face mask while in the waiting room.

I'm finally feeling kicks higher up, at the a/s the nurse said he was low and basically laying across my pelvis. I still feel the bulk of the movements down low (my bladder is a fav), but my stomach is actually moving around now. It's making it all more real

There is so much variability in the care you get from different medical professionals! This was my experience with DD, until I got moved to the recovery room. Then I had the sweetest, most helpful, amazing nurse. I still remember her name and hope she's still there when I deliver this time. I think the nurses really make the biggest impact on a hospital stay (whether good or bad). I hope you find a doula you vibe with!

Everything looked great at the a/s! She confirmed the anterior placenta which made me feel better about not feeling movement. Baby weighs about 10 oz (82%). I am glad we already knew it was a girl because she wasnt being too cooperative. 😉
The tech switched to 3D and gave us a couple good face pictures.

There was one about an hour from where we lived in CA too. They're owned by Bed Bath & Beyond, so all their stuff shows up on Bed Bath & Beyond's website too, so if you want to order anything you can go in the store, use your expired coupons, get free shipping, and return to the store if you don't like it, at least in my experience

I'm fairly certain I'm feeling movement, but it's very sporadic. It's cool though! I think it will be awhile yet before MH can feel anything from the outside though.

I'm such a weirdo. I like to feel up my abdomen when I wake up, when all the bloat is gone. It's amazing to me how the uterus grows like that. The top is just under my belly button now. 😀 No denying that there's a baby in there!

Yeah, I’ve felt movement here and there but nothing regularly yet. Looking forward to feeling it a bit more 😊

We started swim lessons this morning. DS was so scared, he held on so tight to my neck. It's going to be a long 12 weeks!

DH is still in bed, so I sent dd (3.5) into the bedroom and told her to sing the ABC’s as loud as she could. I’m laughing so hard but I’m sure DH isn’t happy.

I wouldn't be surprised if I have an anterior placenta. Only 19 days til I will find that out. 🤓

I’m so exhausted. Ice skating lessons then a birthday party has been too much for me. I could take a 5 hour nap.

We started swim lessons this morning. DS was so scared, he held on so tight to my neck. It's going to be a long 12 weeks! How old? A good rule of thumb for nervous kids is to hold him tighter than he’s holding you. It will give him a little confidence that he doesn’t have to climb you like a tree to stay above water. And if you do ever need to pass him off to another person or the step get very very close. Once he trusts that you’ll hold him up, it will be easier to do some actual skills. I taught year round swim lessons for a decade, so if you have any more specific questions let me know!

imapenguin he's turning 3 next month. Thank you for those tips! Last summer when I would bring him to the small local beach he wouldn't even splash around in the water to his ankles, I basically had to hold him the entire time. When trying to attempt small talk with the instructor I mentioned this, and she basically said he was going to sense my negativity towards this experience. That annoyed me but I let it go. The entire time he held tightly around my neck and when she was instructing us to walk backwards and have them kick their legs he just wouldn't let go of his legs to even attempt it. I tried to do at least one leg at a time to have him get a feel for it. The instructor then told me that I basically need to force him to do it. Umm, no, I think I know my child and forcing him to do something he's not ready for will traumatize him and he won't want to come back. Sorry for the rant but I was expecting her to be a little more patient. Hopefully next week will be better.

cornflakegirl, I will warn you that it will be slow going at first, but if you move at his pace you will make progress...eventually. There are times you should push and times you should back off, but day 1 is never a time to push, even with the most enthusiastic kids. For something like kicks where you’re holdomg him you can try telling him exactly what you’re going to do. “Mommy is going to hold you really tight around your waist so your legs can float up. I am not going to let go and you can tell me if you want me to squeeze you tighter or if you need a break. You can hang on as tight as you want to me.” Some kids do well with that and some don’t care—they just need time. You can try letting him practice kicks in a bathtub of shallow water where he can lay on his belly and get the leg motion down. Then when he’s in class it just like the at home except mom is holding him instead of the tub. As his confidence grows give him a little more water so he can start to feel bouyancy. This is very messy. You can also try bringing a toy from home to class. Usually places have a lot there, but sometimes kids like a familiar object. You’ll have much better luck if he’s having fun. If he’s scared, he may do some things, but he won’t retain them like he will if he’s enjoying himself. Nervous kids take more time, but they can be great swimmers too!
