I woke up early and had coffee alone, so nice. C is up now and L is sleeping in. Only thing on our agenda is to get Valentine's, hopefully they aren’t super picked over!

Dd was a nightmare last night. Screaming over seemingly nothing and up multiple times. Both kids woke up around 05.30... way to early. I thought ds looked a bit pale and felt warm so kept him home from school, the moment I called him in such he started acting all better 🙄. So we went out to feed the ducks and got some air and groceries. I really need to clean, but can’t seem to get myself motivated. Going to yet another concert tonight, it was a birthday gift for my aunt.

Morning!
C had a rough night, which is not her typical MO. DH did most of the tending so he is still sleeping (he has today off).
B has school this morning but no idea what we’ll do with the rest of the day. I’d love to make an unaccompanied Target run.

flamingo sorry for the rough night. Plus, you know you’re a mom when you’re really looking forward to a solo trip to the store right?!

I should be getting for work. I need to leave in 30ish minutes. Today I'm opening my office, then when S comes in I go to the other office to update the girl I have been covering for. The boys all took the day off to recover from the super bowl so just me and S in the office

Sorry for the rough nights, ladies. C was up at 4:45 because he peed through his diaper. It's my own fault because I have been trying to transition him to almond milk and I've been letting him have some of it whenever he wanted which included last night about 15 minutes before I took him up to his crib. Oh we'll.
I wanted so badly to watch this is us this morning, so I set up YouTube videos for Charlie on the TV and sat on the couch and watched. I ugly cried more times than I can even tell you, and loved the episode, specially the end. That probably made me cry the hardest.

So, I feel like I'm going to be all house all the time for the next four or five months, so as exciting as it is, please bear with me and my questions. I feel like I should start packing soon. Maybe a box or two a day, but mh said we should really look into a service that will pack us up and unpack us because it's too hard with the kids. Anybody have any theories of this? Recently moved with two kids? flamingo? @snoop?

guster ha, I could probably be a professional packer at this point. Or write a book. So typically we have professional movers/packers contracted by the navy. When we sold our house last spring, however, we had to move out before the navy funding kicked in, so we DIYed the packing and hired movers to put everything in storage. Packing is the most expensive part of moving when hiring movers, so if you’re trying to do it on a budget I would avoid professional packing and just hire the company to move your stuff. Also, honestly having experienced it both ways, I would rather pack myself. That way I know exactly where everything is and that it’s been done correctly, boxes are labeled properly, etc. you are going to take way more care with your stuff. Packers will typically use paper for everything, and I mean everything. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve unwrapped random pencils and a box of paper clips. It can be inefficient and very tedious to unpack all that crap on the backside. When we packed I tried to do one room a day (starting with rooms we don’t use much like guest room, formal dining, etc). Some rooms take longer (kitchen, for ex) and typically you’re using that stuff up until the end, so I’d try to pack up what you don’t need (holiday stuff, serving pieces, gadgets, etc) and leave your high-use items cook/dishware til last. I didn’t find it too bad, packing with the kids. Again, for me it’s easier to go at my own pace, as opposed to having ppl in my home that I’m trying to direct, while keeping track of the kids/keeping them out of the way. To a man, every mover who’s ever worked with us has told me how much they appreciate how organized and well-prepped we were. Makes their job easier. I have a ton of tips I’m happy to pass on if you’re interested. If you opt to pack yourselves, get your materials at Lowe’s/Home Depot—you’ll pay a lot less than at a moving store/UHaul, etc, and you can return anything you don’t use. Also, save your receipts—moving expenses are a tax write off.

guster, good luck with packing. We are here for all the house talk chrisy01, I hope the other girl is grateful for your help. That would at least make your day with S less horrible nam2013, I'm jealous you can go to so many concerts. I know we have a lot here, I'm just not a big enough fan to justify the prices and late nights.

guster re: the unpacking, the navy pays for a ‘full unpack’, meaning if I want them to, they have to stay until every single box is empty. However, they *don’t* put anything away—unpackers empty boxes and just stack stuff. To me, that is more stressful than having boxes around. I will typically let them unpack the kitchen, bc that is where the bulk of your boxes will be and they are densely packed with lots of packing material. Getting the kitchen organized is key for my sanity. So if you opt to unpack yourself, that is the room I’d focus on first, followed by kids’ room(s) to help give them some normalcy.

The cats are doing ok together. I only heard Shadow growl a few times in the night, the food is being eaten by both cats, and the litter box is being used. Poor Olive is desperate for Shadow to be her friend. With 2 black cats it is kind of funny, E keeps saying "Which one was that?". They are vastly different sizes so it should be easier to tell them apart soon. Olive does have has some white patches on her neck and belly though

My goodness, flamingo. Get yourself a URL and start a blog. I'm screenshotting your post because it has the very best information. I don't know if I care so much about the financial part of it, but I don't know how the movers are going to unpack and put things where I need them to be, then expect me to find them. (ETA: I see you covered that) I'm such a control freak that I have a feeling I will need to do it myself--especially when it comes to labeling boxes of where they go and what's inside. If we're moving sometime in May, I think I could get it done if I start soon. MHs school has always been very generous with boxes, so we'll have that part covered, but i will need bubble wrap and tape, I'm guessing.

Hi everyone. Sitting here and surprisingly not feeling super tired out. We were at my dads last night for the SB and got home pretty late. I mostly feel bad for the kiddos. They were bright eyed and bushy tailed this AM but I feel like it will catch up w them as the day goes on. I’m also doing a test drive of shape tape foundation today.

guster yes, even the best movers/packers will never be as careful with your stuff as you are. I would definitely pack any breakables, valuables, etc, even if you opt to hire it out. Packing paper is the cheapest material and that is what pro movers (and we) use for the vast majority of stuff. It does a great job, just don’t skimp on it. We save bubble wrap for truly fragile things. I like the dish-pack boxes for dishes and China, they make them for glassware, too. Also, I love the big 1- and 2-gallon Ziploc bags for drawers...just put everything in there and on the back end you can just plop a bag in a drawer as you unpack and organize later. Also, keeps you from having to wash silverware, utensils, etc.

guster, we did the move w our 2 kids also. The fact that I don’t remember much means it must’ve not been that traumatic. We did hire movers but mh and I packed most of the things. We just wanted them for heavy lifting and to physically transport everything from A to B. On moving day, I got to the new house early (w kids) while mh stayed at old house and supervised the movers. My cousin came over and helped me entrain and watch the kiddos while the chaos of the movers arriving w our things, ensued around us.

guster flamingo is wise. Maybe dedicate some time in the evening when the kids go to bed to pack a box or two for the next couple of months. There is also a lot of tips and hacks for packing and keeping organized on Pinterest. You should check it out just to get some ideas.

It was a little awkward in that I didn’t interact w the babies at all. My gma was there too so her and my dad’s wife were doing all the baby things while I watched the game w my dad and took care of my own kids.

Sunny41 before we had kids we promised each other we’d keep doing this. I said to Dh the other night that during concerts is one of the only times I feel like pre-mom me again. The concerts we go to usually cost between 10-25 per ticket, so not bad. My parents live around the corner and couldn’t care less if they veg out on our couch or there own. So no babysitting costs. And I admit three concerts in 10 days is to much for me, we usually aim for once every 1-2 months.

We have 1 per cat and that works. we are trying to do one box. So far it is working, they've both used it on their own, but we are super conscious if 1 box won't work. We know it is the rule of thumb. We have food and water scattered around the house right now because Shadow seems to pick one spot and call it a day so we don't want 1 cat cutoff.

yummeecookee, meh, at parties there are a lot of people that usually want to be with newborns. I think the fact that you didn't avoid the party says a lot about you. nam2013, those are good prices for tickets. I think we were lazy even before kids And we don't have free babysitting

Morning!
Just dropped M at school and I’m back home to get M2 and myself ready to go.
For some reason, I feel rested today. It’s sad because I probably got 5-6 hours of broken sleep, but it was probably the most sleep I’ve gotten in 3-4 days. I’m momming (just made up a word) so hard these days. Lol.

I think had it been just us (my family of 4) as the only guests, I would’ve had more of a chance to be involved. ETA. Actually I want to edit that to say I would’ve felt more comfortable being involved.
