Atticus asked me to paint his nails over the weekend. I said I would do one finger each hand, because I was sure he couldn't sit still long enough for an entire hand to dry. He said he wanted me to do Tallman (his middle finger). I did and thought nothing of it but his teacher reports he's flipping everyone off to show them his red nail so I guess we need to pick a different finger next time. This reminds me the other day DH told T to turn his tablet off. T gave him an evil smile and a thumbs up and went back to his game. DH goes "I think he just gave me the finger but got the finger wrong."

Hi all. I'm trying to get back to reality. I haven't even given This is Us a go because it looks like schmaltzy eye rolling moments. cagoldi it drives me nuts when people don't watch their hellions. And when older kids are mean to the little ones. I can see you've grilled it into Atticus as much as I have the girls to always look out for little ones.

The idiots in the vegan moms group are going to get someone killed.
Over the weekend they told a mom to just keep nursing and ignore her midwife who was urging her to go to the hospital because the baby had lost too much weight.
Today 95% of them are saying they skip their GD test. That should work out great when you have complications from untreated GD and leave your husband a widower to raise your kids alone. Do you even like your family?
Also, there's no reason to get genetic screening at all unless you would terminate.
No, dumb dumbs. It's because even if you would never terminate you need the appropriate specialists available at the time of birth if there's a problem.
Fools. No wonder people think we're all crazy.

cagoldi from what I’ve been told, if you decline your GD rest they treat you as if you have it. That sounds like a big hassle to me.

My best friend's employee had her baby hospitalized and ultimately removed from her care when she was breastfeeding because she was something like 8 or 9lbs at 4 months old. She was vegan but also had some ED issues that contributed also. I support everyone's right to feed their bodies however they choose to, but if a medical professional is telling you to go to the hospital.... Go! And then find a way to prevent it from happening again.

I watched the first scene in this is us and mh was like omg this is ridiculous. I watched Parenthood after the fact ok Netflix and I suspect if I watch this is us, it will be later when I can binge watch it.
Not much new here. J left his puppy at the playdate sat and my friend forgot to bring it to work today, so I think I'll drive over and get it tonight. He was a trooper about it, said he thought puppy was watching the Superbowl and asked if they had a bed for him. I easily could have picked it up, but thought it was a good life lesson to not take it places when we suggest he leave him at home or in the car, but now I just feel bad.

And then find a way to prevent it from happening again. I vaguely remember this. Can't speak to the ED issues but some of these clowns refuse to take prenatals and/or supplement B12 and that's a suicide mission if you ask me. Maybe not today, but decades later to be sure. Just plain irresponsible not to do it if you're breastfeeding. I think some people think it's like a knock on veganism to acknowledge the need to supplement B12? Weird. Most people who have low levels eat animals and everyone over 50 is supposed to supplement anyway regardless diet. Not sure why anyone wants to fall on that sword. And, anyone who does that has an ED anyway, IMO. A lot of these people are orthorexic.

cagoldi from what I’ve been told, if you decline your GD rest they treat you as if you have it. That sounds like a big hassle to me. You're underestimating the irrational avoidance of any medical intervention with these nutters. They would just stop going to the doctor and/or find a midwife who supports this craziness or transfer care to a chiropractor or something.

cagoldi in your encounters do you feel that the people going to these extremes could actually medically be considered to have an ED? Or do you feel that it's almost like a zealotism? I completely understand the ethical reasons behind veganism, I just don't understand why people follow it to the detriment of themselves or in these cases their babies. If it's truly an ED then that's one thing though, ya know?

I completely understand the ethical reasons behind veganism, I just don't understand why people follow it to the detriment of themselves or in these cases their babies. If it's truly an ED then that's one thing though, ya know? I really think it's plant-based dieters, mostly not vegans at all. Most people who eat a vegan diet call themselves vegan. Do they wear leather, do they buy products tested on animals? My guess is yes, because there's no health argument for avoiding those things. There is no vegan reason to avoid formula, genetic testing, a GD test, or vitamins, you know? I have yet to see a vegan argue these things should be avoided for ethical reasons. It's always "formula is poison, GMOs!," and other pseudoscience nonsense. I understand the desire to avoid vaccines for this reason because they rely on animal testing but there's no alternative. Their smartphones and the city streets have animal products. I don't see them avoiding those? So obviously we accept that some things are unavoidable but it's a bit obvious if everything you're avoiding "for vegan reasons" has to do with health, you know? So again, it all comes back to a mistrust of putting something in your body "because, chemicals" which has nothing to do with veganism.

Basically, I'm saying the health argument has to be divorced completely from a discussion about veganism.
Is it healthy? Yes. Should you do your research to make sure you're getting what you need? Yes. Should your doctor or your child's know about your dietary restrictions? Yes.
That's it.
Don't do this "we're naturally herbivores, this is the healthiest diet, meat is going to kill you" stuff.
None of that has anything to do with avoiding cruelty and exploitation of animals.
But, that's why people are confused. The marketing is all wrong.
It should be, "this diet is appropriate and healthy for all stages of life."
And that's the end of it. Do you want to choose to do less harm? Great, then if you can stop eating animals, you should do that.
That's how the conversation should go every time.

Insane, Goldi! I was doing a little research on the GD test and was so surprised to read people who refused the test. What!? It's a blood test, not an injection of something!

cagoldi, I have to say, I did not know a lot about Veganism till you. And I had a lot of preconceived notions based on a lot of the nuts out there. You have definitely educated me. I do not hold the same beliefs as you, but you have opened my eyes to a lot of prejudice I think that I had. And you're right... those nuts out there do everyone else a disservice. But I realize I was doing what I hate that other people do... judging a whole group of people by a few extremists. It's so wrong and I don't know how I got there. So, thank you.

While I may hold different views on the subject, I can certainly appreciate where you are coming from when you take away the "health" aspect of it. There are lots of different ways to be "healthy" and there is no one size fits all.

Hey ladies! Last week was...something. It was like, since they got rid of my boss, every meeting he would have had to be in, I was requested to participate in. Even meetings that I wasn't scheduled in, as I walked by the conference room, someone would see me, and call me in. I'm still ridiculously behind, but our CEO is out today and the next two days, so I feel like I can breath again.
I need to go catch up on all last weeks posts.

cagoldi Please tell me the nursing mom with the baby went to the doctor? Now I am going to worry about this woman and her baby. I suspect the thread was deleted because I can't find it anymore. This is how we read headlines that say "vegan baby dies" when it had nothing to do with the decision not to seek medical attention and everything to do with being neglectful and listening to lactivist talk about formula being poison.

Local mom group craziness of the day: an unclear rambling about a puppy peeing and pooping in the crate and not wanting to clean it up because pregnant and tired. It was hard to decipher so the first comment was asking what she was looking for. She added she doesn't want to clean the mess. So someone clarified "you want someone to come to your house and clean up after your dog?" To which she replied yes. Of course there were a few sensitive suzies who recommended a dog poop cleaning service (which scoops your yard on a schedule, doesn't come to clean every time a puppy messes in the crate) and one who opined if it's unsafe to clean dog poop like it is cat poop. I skipped past that nonsense and suggested she find a caring and capable person to re-home the pet to because she isn't going to magically get more energy when she has a newborn. Someone else made a similar suggestion and all the sudden her response was no worries, it's all taken care of. That poor dog.

What's she going to do when she's exhausted and sleep deprived and her baby needs his/her poop cleaned up all day!?

So I haven't been watching the Bachelor this season but I saw they were in Paris tonight so I have been idly paying attention, and now it's the 2-on-1 so I'm totally sucked in. Darn you, Chris Harrison and ABC.
Arie just seems so bland.
Anyone else watching?
