random thought for the random thread. do we wanna maybe do a weekly random thread? as we get more peeps coming on over from oct, this might get long hahaha. Makes sense to me. I would definitely prefer not to have one long one forever! Weekly seems like a good frequency.

Big hugs tbirdlove. I'm sorry you're stuck in the position of choosing between some relief and potentially your supply, but it would not be not selfish, at all, if you chose the Unisom!

Nymeria I am also mourning the pats loss. I hope you are able to get some relief with the migraines soon. I unfortunately had to ride them out my pregnancy with B. I however did not realize that excedrin tension was safe so I never tried it.

meggriffin - Yup, Excedrine always comes up as a no-no, but the ingredients vary. The Extra Strength and Migraine versions are acetaminophen, asprin, and caffeine so definitely not ok because of the asprin. The Tension version is acetaminophen and caffeine only. Since Tylenol is the recommended go-to, acetaminophen is definitely ok. And a single dose of Excedrine Tension has 65mg of caffeine, which for someone who continues to indulge that is within recommended limits of less than 200mg. I feel like it's all on the no list because of the asprin and caffeine, but as long as you're careful about caffeine intake from other forms there's really nothing wrong with the Tension version specifically.

Nymeria I’m sorry that the headaches are continuing. I’m glad that today’s going better! tbirdlove Huge hugs. It’s draining to feel like crap constantly. You have to make the decision that you’re most comfortable with, but to echo Nymeria, I don’t think it would be selfish to go the unisom route. You have to do what you need to do to get through the day.

Hugs tbirdlove. that's a really tough situation. If you choose to do it, your not selfish. You need to be able to function and live.

Oh and sorry I didn't intro. Starting my own thread freaks me out a little. Haha. Social anxiety is awesome.

tbirdlove it is not selfish to make sure you're welcome decent and functional. Also, fwiw chances are you'd dry up in the next couple months anyways. When I was 4 months pg with DS2 my milk just abruptly went away. DS1 was still nursing and kept dry nursing for about 2 weeks and then just gave up. Which also thank jeebus because dry nursing at 4 months pregnant was AWFUL.

tbirdlove - I'm sorry you've been so sick! I don't remember how old you said DS was but if your plan was to continue nursing for quite a while longer, I can see how this feels like a wrench in those plans. I don't think it's selfish at all to want to feel better though. The flip side is if/when you do find the right dosage and do feel better, you'll be able to interact with DS more than if you were constantly sick.

The past few days have been awful for me. I've been so sick. And I'm in a bad place mentally and emotionally because I'm so worn out and I hate feeling so useless and sick. I'm still adjusting dosages of Unisom and B6 to find a balance that works. It seems to take the nausea away in the morning, but I still overall just feel sick all day. And then the nausea is baaaad at night. Plus, I learned that the active ingredient in Unisom is actually an antihistamine that could potentially dry up what's left of my milk supply.... As I was hoping/planning to continue nursing DS, this makes me feel really sad. It feels like a selfish choice to take the meds knowing that risk. So, it's just generally been a really rough week. So much crying. I'm sorry you're feeling this way, but wanted to say that you're not alone. I've been pretty much in the same place with the constant nausea and the like. How old is your DS? I'm also still nursing (25 month DS), but my OB basically told me I need to wean him. It's hard when it's not your choice, but it's not selfish, as you need to take care of yourself, so that you have enough to give to others. It's like the airplane example, put on your own mask first, otherwise you won't be able to help others around you!

Thank you everyone for all of your supportive words. I appreciate it. I had already started taking the Unisom right away despite the possible supply side effect. MH had to talk me down cause I was all upset about it, but I knew it was what I had to do. And I know that there is a good chance that my supply will dry up in the second trimester. And I'll be sad about that too! DS is 20 months, so we've had a nice, long journey if things come to an end sooner than I'd hoped. But for now I'm just gonna keep on keeping' on with nursing and see what happens.
