Anyone doing t ball this spring? The official league has a practice and a game each week😲. We may do a different league that is 90 min on weekends this year since I won't have kids at the same place and would be impossible to make practice midweek at a reasonable time. I REALLY want to. I have to figure out where to sign him up and hope we can get him to practices on time. There is nothing more I want for M this year. Lol. I also hope he loves it as much as I want him to. We are, and Ryland started his first season last fall. Shaun coached and Ryland did .... ok. Lol, when he paid attention he was actually pretty decent, but getting a team of 4-5 year old to do that isn’t the easiest. Our sports seasons are insane though because we always have three kids on three different teams. I think I told you guys in the fall we had 8 weeks straight where we had baseball and/or tball 6 days a week.

We just ordered bedroom furniture for our room. We have never had a bed, only a mattress and boxspring on a frame. We went in some furniture store I never heard of and I fell in love with something that was nothing like what I was looking for. Tonight I'm suppose to be meeting my high school friends for dinner. C has been super fussy about that time the past few days so hopefully it goes ok. Tomorrow is my grandma's 98th birthday. We are having a party at the nursing home. My cousin and her kids are coming from out of state. Grandma is super unhappy in the nursing home so hopefully she will be ok at the party. My dad thinks he found round the clock care so she can go home next week. I want to see what you picked! www.hickorypark.com/furniture/discount.php/78351/Artisan-and-Post/King-Plank-Storage-Bed/index.php

I did explain a bit more and he did express some interest. There was a baseball movie on Netflix the other night and I tried to talk him into it and he said "I just don't really love baseball". Eek, I hope he does like it and have fun, otherwise hope N likes softball for MH's sake.

Thanks guys. Sometimes she colors like that, other times it’s random scribbles. I think her favorite thing to do is cut at school (and at home). She does a good job of cutting close to the lines.

Just curious, and maybe I’m wrong, but don’t you girls think that with giving homework at this age, the rat race has started?

Hi! I’m so excited because our machine went down at work and I have the afternoon to myself!!!! First time in a very long time I will be home alone without either of the boys. I just had Mexican alone and going to top at the grocery store so I won’t have to get out much this weekend. Then home to catch up on my DVR in peace and quiet. I haven’t been this excited about anything in a very long time. That sounds blissful. Enjoy!

Tball starts at 5 over here. Plus we agreed and it sort of is the norm (given that water is everywhere over here) he needs to get a swim diploma first. Lessons for that start at 5-5.5, I guess we have another two years of waiting...

@nam, many districts and a lot of individual teachers in this area are on the no homework in elementary school (and sometimes even beyond) bandwagon. It seems like the preschools may not have caught up yet.

Just curious, and maybe I’m wrong, but don’t you girls think that with giving homework at this age, the rat race has started? Meh. I have a lot of opinions about of things but I just can't get it up for this. I dont necessarily think that preschool 'homework' = the rat race of life.

I don't like it, but they remind us that it's voluntary; they're not grading it; they're not tracking who does it and who doesn't do it, but I still kind of wish they didn't give it out.

We are planning to do Tball this year. Registration is 2/1. I think C will really enjoy it and I want to meet people in our town.

Assignments for a 13 month old, tallb? That's nuts. We're planning to do t-ball this spring. Colin got a set last year or maybe the year before, plus we play "baseball" in the house at least a few times a week. He loves sports so much but I'm curious to see how he feels once they're more organized and he's not the one making the rules.

Just curious, and maybe I’m wrong, but don’t you girls think that with giving homework at this age, the rat race has started? This is how I feel. Here in VA (and at home in FL), B will be in pre-kindergarten next year, so I feel like there is still plenty of time to be 'Kindergarten-ready' without extra worksheets, etc. at home. I am in no rush to start with the homework, etc. I think there are a lot of reasons schools send homework with kids this young, and I don't really agree with them, so. eta: I am starting to see (in FL, anyway) more teachers holding off on the loads of homework in elementary school b/c there has definitely been some backlash in recent years. The rule of thumb I've read about--and like--is ten minutes/day per grade. So first grade...10 minutes, 2nd grade, 20, and so on. I would say that is probably pretty comparable to what I experienced in school way back when. eta2: I would rather use the time we'd spend on "homework" in the preK/kindergarten years on reading, whether it's me reading to my child or vice versa. I mean, we'd do that anyway, but I think that is probably most useful at this age.

The homework we bring home is just extra practice for them, so I have no problem with it. She views it as one of her responsibilities, just like feeding the cats their dinner and doing her stretches. She isn't sitting at a desk all day and crunching numbers late into the evening, she's tracing some shapes or coloring in some pictures. I just don't view it as that big of a deal.

I'm kinda Team No Homework...ever. I see how burnt out my kids are after school, both my kindergartener and my freshman, and I remember what that was like. It's a lot of brain power to demand all day and night. I've read some articles, that I'm too lazy to dig up, on how homework is an in effective learning tool and a huge time/energy suck for both the students and the teachers without a whole lot of benefits.
I'm sure these were scholarly scientific articles, you guise. Obvi.

I'd happily meet with kids, talk about the work, but didn't care if it came in and they were never assessed for a grade. There were summative assignments that the formative assignments built up to. Those were mandatory. It was up to the kids to decide what they needed to do in order to get to that summative piece. MH is even a little more hard-core than that. He teaches in an entirely grade-less classroom.

H sent me a text that the rumor is their HR turned payroll in a day late. I pointed out to him that Monday is a holiday, so it could be Tuesday before his paycheck is deposited. He said they told him it would be fixed this afternoon...we will see.
I'm team no homework at this age, because I think at this age, kids should be kids, and I'm too damn lazy to help my 4 year old with 'homework' in the evening. Since E goes to in home daycare, they do 'schoolwork' which is just a workbook DCP bought at Walmart and E brings it home on Tuesdays to review. Which means we never look at it again, so I try to send it to one of the grandparents, so they have something schoolish to look at.

We are the top rated schools in our state so I think that says something.

DH just texted that he will be home at 5:30. Usually he is home close to 8. I just ordered pizza delivery to come at 6 so we don't have to worry about dinner and can just pack. I'm so excited!!!! I also realized its less than 12 hours from when I need to be awake tomorrow- not excited about that.
