cagoldi this sounds different than ds. He wouldn’t/won’t try anything new. He has a few staples that are fine for him to eat, those range across textures. So he’ll eat yoghurt, but not flavoured ones, he eats cookies/crisps but only plain ones or ones he knows, you can bury him in apples and he like mandarins but heaven forbid he tries an orange. It often about how it feels in his mouth, he has a strong gag reflex, so if food hits that point he’ll gag and throw up. It’s weird and we can’t pinpoint what the problem is exactly. We’ve been told that kids with low birthweight for gestational age often have problems with solids and since he threw up from food almost every day for over a year, we think there must be some psychological issue too. Dd sounds more like X, she’ll try anything, but if she doesn’t want to swallow, she won’t. She can keep a piece of bread in her mouth forever. I’ve asked the the paediatric nurse about this a month ago. According to her, at this age they start to understand that they can influence and control things. They have very few things to control, basically food or bedtime (potty training when they’re a little older). She told me kids won’t starve themselves, and because we’re nice parents that will bring them the stuff they like, they know we’ll bring out something. I’ve also been told to never pick a battle about food, because you’ll always loose. Ds would starve, since he has no sense of hunger, so we battle him plenty. But we try to be more go with the flow with dd. As long as she’s growing and thriving she’s fine. So that was long and I’m not sure it’s of any help. Food issues suck! ETA she also told me to just keep offering things and that we decide when we eat, for how long and what is on the plate, but that she decides what she eats and to not punish by not giving desert...

slenle I think it would depend on how important the meeting is. And ask her if she is okay with you leaving her with your parents. There are some commitments we make that aren't that important, so no big deal skipping for a sick child, but others, since it sounds like she's 'okay,' I'd still attend. I hope she's back to her normal self quickly!

I finished the baby’s blanket so it can come now. Great job!! You know, you mentioned up thread about your insomnia. I have never had trouble sleeping except during pregnancy. But it got progressively worse toward the end and the worst night/morning of it was the day my water broke! I woke up at 3am and couldn’t fall back asleep and watched 2 lifetime movies instead. I fell back asleep around 6:30 am. Woke at 9ish. Went to take a shower and bam...water broke. So maybe it’s on the horizon for you! I predict a girl coming this Saturday.

I don’t remember ever having insomnia this bad in the other pregnancies. I went to bed last night at like 10 feeling exhausted and was wide awake until 2. I have to thank Cher for the blinds thread because it kept me occupied at least!!

xolastunicornxo cute! And that reminds me I need to have someone make J a new blanket. My mom had one made for him and it's the only one he'll use but now it's to small. He throws any other blanket off of him.. If you want a crocheted one I can do it! I don't know if they are crocheted or what. I'll send you a picture when I get home. It has to be the same colors, light blue and light grey, so he doesn't notice lol.

Thanks, nam2013. He still gets at least half of his calories from formula and won't take sippies so I don't feel like I can cut bottles. He's too young to know what he's doing and not really the type to have a battle of wills over much of anything. It feels like there must be some reason for it, but I can't tell for sure. Guess we'll find out when we get to our evaluation of the pedi decides it's necessary.

nam2013 and anyone else with experience here, I think we're going to have to start feeding therapy for X. I guess I'm just looking for ideas. X will eat pouches all day long but hardly any solids. He pretty much sticks to tofu, pizza, and strawberries. Those are the only things he will reliably eat, and it doesn't seem like a texture issue but what do I know? Anyway, the pedi said if he wasn't doing much better by his 18 month check up (6 weeks from now) we'd probably need an evaluation. It's not like he's picky, he will try just about everything but almost never swallows it. Does any of this sound familiar? O did something similar when he was younger. He would eat anything but mostly chewed then spit it out. I made him a ton of soups because when he ate solid foods it seemed like he spit everything out. He eventually started swallowing more and we never did any type of therapy. Someone was going through something similar at the time and did seek therapy but i feel like it was mommyx2 or someone that isn’t here any more.

Cute, Unicorn! I love all things yellow. I used the same yellow and white stripe outfit as our "going home" outfit with both kids. Ohh, do we get a side by side pic? Are you going to use it for #3 too? I'll have to dig some pictures up! I am planning to use it again.

Guess we'll find out when we get to our evaluation of the pedi decides it's necessary. Totally anecdotal, but with the exception of the spitting food out, you're describing Charlie. He ate really well until he got sick with a cough, and basically refused to eat anything but hummus and yogurt. So we reverted back to formula. I posted to you guys about the desire to cut the bottle and to take sippies. He will still prefer a bottle (even with a smoothie in it) to anything, but I found a smoothie concoction that he likes and I have some variety within the basics, and he will take that from a nuk. He probably drinks two or three smoothies a day. At this age (almost 22 months, Josie was pretty much doing the same thing. She just preferred liquid calories to anything, but fruit and cheese. For C, at the time, i spoke to the pediatrician, and she told me as long as he was gaining and was eating a few things, I shouldn't worry about the variety as that would come later, and it did. I can't pinpoint when or why, but things just changed. I hope it's the same for you. All of that said, you know X better than anyone, go with your gut if you think it's a issue or you just want to give him time to figure it out on his own.

Beautiful work xolastunicornxo. My attention span would only allow me to get about 3 rows done. I don't crochet but I knit and I have a beard and headband that have been near completion for far too long.

Quick - thoughts on tamiflu for kids?! J has flu b, cough started Monday pm and she prescribed 5 days 2x a day. N is healthy and prescribed 10 days. The pharmacist was not having it. She said the side effects are worse than the flu, esp with how young N is. J has been mostly fine so far, highest temp was 101 earlier today. I'm reluctant to give, I think nausea is worse than fever.

guster I randomly just ordered one of those head massagers for my mom. She asked me to scratch her head recently and said it's the best feeling with her scars. Glad you like it!

No experience with Tamiflu, but I've heard the same story that your pharmacist is telling you. I think one even came from ggandlee. I'm really sorry the kids are sick. I hope everyone feels better soon. ETA: tag tallb

She frequently got fevers over 106 which triggered asthma attacks which landed her in the hospital more than once. She did well on it. DS1 took it once also without issue.

tallb, I know you enjoy Black-ish, and I don't know if you saw the older daughter's spin off, Grown-ish. I watched both episodes last night, and I think it's really good.
