Anyone interested? I realized I do have an area of my life I have yet to Kon Mari - my electronic data. Pictures, documents, email addresses... I have so much shit I need to sit down with and attend to. So if anyone else is interested, no matter what part of your journey, I'm here to spark joy with you. Please remember Kon Mari isn't about getting rid of everything. The focus is on KEEPING the things that bring you joy. Joy is not always literal. There is joy in owning a toilet scrubber because it is nice to shit on a clean toilet and have the tool that keeps the toilet clean. I'm one year in and haven't gone back, I hope if anyone is going through the process or thinking about it they chime in. I love this visual from @yogis_bujo

I need to do paperwork again and some electronics that have started to build up again.
I'm about a year in too and haven't gone back on most areas and happily release things without guilt. There's even a bag sitting in my closet right now waiting to be dropped off at value village

Even though I live in a very small space, I still feel like 50% of it doesn't get used and it's just there because I have the room for it. With SO moving in soon, I have started tidying up and removing the items that give me no joy or use from my life. It is hard for me though because I would like to find new homes for everything so that they can maybe give someone else joy, but ain't nobody got time for that. So to that I would say consider that it's not your job to find an item a purpose, it's your job to thank the item for whatever purpose it served in your life (thanks for being a quick fix when I was emotionally shopping, thanks for being fun to shop for, thanks for the opportunity to work on my paint refinishing skills, thanks for being a desk) and then let it go. When you get hung up on seeing the item into its next life, you can inadvertently end up pressuring others to take in items that may not bring them joy. Have you done clothes yet? I think her theory that clothes are the best place to practice the method first is spot on.

The weirdest change I made that makes me happiest is this: I no longer keep shampoo and conditioner in plain sight. I have one bottle of each, no back ups, nada, and I keep them in the bathroom vanity cupboard in a little storage basket. I really like not seeing them out for some reason. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes, yes, yes. I belong here.
I was so happy in my last house after I did this. Now that I'm in the new house with all these changes coming up, I feel like I need to start over. Although I just rearranged my kitchen and closets and there was very little to get rid of. Just need it to fit better.
I've definitely let go of this in my clothes and I need to get back there.

Yup! When I get back from vacay. I’m going to take a day off and send DS to school and get a good start.
Last year I did clothes, shoes, bathroom, books and it stuck. (Except one drawer that is a hot mess of makeup and jewelry right now).
Next up is paper/office and kitchen.

I got through clothes and books last year- and then never made it any further. I will say that clothes and books are still doing well though! Maybe this will motivate me to get through the rest of the house.

I am thinking of getting one of those dispensers for the shower so I never need bottles clunking around anywhere. Also, I cleared off my kitchen counters yesterday and I finally feel like this house is now my home. Its so freeing.

We're going to be getting some renovations done soon and i can't wait to rip up that carpet and make everything white. Oh and the under stairs closet has been kind of a dumping ground for kitchen appliances so i need to let go of things like the keurig that hasn't been for over a year

Me! I was doing really well and then we finished cleaning out the old house to sell and now I have so much more shit. I'm actually already 90% done with clothing.
On my list is: shoes, outerwear, toys, and definitely my vanity and all the things in it.

I think that this will be the year I actually read the book and try to apply some of the principles (in order). (But probably not until June or July at the earliest, to be realistic here.)
I am really proud of my packrat self for my major purging before we moved last year, but if having things in storage for months and finally unpacking has shown me anything, it's that tons more can be unloaded. Now that we're getting settled in our "forever" home, I am working hard to create organizational systems that work for our family and to keep them up. But it's a really slow process, because I'm trying to be so intentional about what we bring in the house, and not just running out and buying things to fill space. That is confusing to the "why isn't your house decorated yet" crowd, but it's how I'm preferring to do things.

I just feel the need to disclaimer that Kon Mari has swept the bourgeois world but don't let that bitch make you feel bad about some of the shit you have. Is all of it going to bring you joy? No.
No, You don't have to hold your shit and sit with it and expect to have feels or not keep it.
As long as your space speaks to your mind and you feel calm while in it then you might have some shit you don't use all the time. All your shit is not trash.
So, proceed with caution when reading her. Keep a totem to bring yourself out.

Donating a whole bunch of shit gives me joy too @winomite. And have I mentioned lately how excited I am that SO is moving in with you soon? Giddy is a good word for it.

I highly recommend the Kon Mari folding style. We’ve been using it for a year for all our folded clothes and love it.

This is on my list for the month! I've done really well with clothes in general, but it's difficult right now as I settle into a PP body and need nursing-friendly clothing. I'm holding off on a major overhaul there.
The living spaces will be my main focus until I can do more for myself.

No way I could have done a whole KM while pregnant/newborning. The other thing is that I'm waiting on some projects that I can't do myself. Like, I can't do what I need to the kitchen until we make and install our pot rack but I have no control over that. I can't tackle the spare room until we move the bed out and the the couch in. I'm also afraid of what I would do to my closet since I'm fat and pregnant and will be for a long time so I'm inclined to pile everything on the lawn and light it on fire. Plus my kid wakes up at the slightest peep during naptime right now, which really limits my ability to get shit done in general. If anyone is looking for excuses I seem to be full of them right now.

I too am moving slow so that I never have to do any of this again haha.

I haven’t read the book but lurked in past posts so I have the general ideas. One of my goals this month is to go room through room and purge a ton of stuff.
My H and I tore our garage apart yesterday and had a huge truck load to take to the dump and another to give to Goodwill. I’ve been holding onto things for years that were just taking up space. It’s amazing how much lighter you feel when things are cleaned out. Next is the kitchen!

I think her theory that clothes are the best place to practice the method first is spot on. I need to remember this. I'm slowly purging (hello DD2 newborn clothing), but I want to offer it on the local buy nothing site. What happens is that something won't be taken and then it sits there on my kitchen table. I need to offer it once and then off to Goodwill

I need this. I will do it. I will. I've already been making excuses since starting mat leave, which needs to end. Now that DH and DD are back to work/day care and DS is starting to sleep better during the day, I feel I have no more excuses to put this off. Tlex, I want my house to be like yours. Every time you post photos, I sigh in admiration of how tidy and inviting and nice it looks. Then I look at my train wreck of a house and know I need to change.

I need to go here. I did really well with this last year, but didn’t make it through my whole house. I did the kitchen last weekend and ended up with a box for donation.
I have a newborn and can’t dedicate as much time to this as I’d like. But I need some accountability so I don’t put it off any longer.

I refill it when needed and dump sample sizes into it too, it's amazing how freeing it is.
