I like a lot of the Kon Mari method, especially the folding.
I will never get on board with the putting everything in a cupboard after you use it. Shower stuff stays on the shower. The toaster stays on the kitchen counter. I feel like her method would be maddening to constantly get stuff out and put it away.

You can pick anywhere as a "home" for an object, it's up to you.

That was one part they had a hard time with. I haven't read it myself yet.

I think she does mention things like emptying your purse at the end of the day and putting shower items in a cabinet. I couldn't do that. We keep almost nothing on our kitchen counters, but that's just because we wouldn't be able to use them for anything else if we did. Side note: I love By the Book! It's one of my favorite recent podcast discoveries.

Well, you are supposed to put everything away in its home after you're done using it, but what it's home is is totally up to you. It just has to be intentional. She does suggest choosing a home that's out of sight for mundane stuff like that will make your home feel more peaceful.

I can't stand stuff in my shower. I had a cart that held all the shower stuff and bath toys and it was perfect but it does not fit in my new bathroom layout.
Also, I did my purses and bags last night. I have a whole bag to donate. I've been holding on to a lot of them for sentimental reasons? Not anymore.

I did most of it before and after our move last year, but I didn't get to digital. We had packers paid for by MH job and I know I would have gotten rid of more pre-move if we packed ourselves. We took multiple van loads to donate while unpacking though and it was so freeing. I'm excited for all of you that are moving because I think that was really motivating. I need to finish going through the holiday stuff (I haven't put out most of it since moving and it needs to go) and the baby things I've been hoarding since I'm currently KU. We should find out the sex in 3.5 weeks and I'm so ready unload half the stuff. I also have some stuff set aside to sell too and I need to buckle down and do it.

I gave the bath toys their own drawer in the bathroom. I still have 2/5 drawers empty. Konmariiiiiiiiii!

Remember H’s “sentimental” dishes from last year that we have dragged across continents and oceans? They’re still in my cabinet. In about 2.5 minutes, they’re going in the trash and it’s trash day (they’re chipped so I don’t want to donate). BOOM.

The one thing I don't like about this house is the lack of drawers. Everything is cupboards and it just makes it so much harder to organize. All that bending down and reaching to the back.

I really need to do this before we sell our house & keep it up in whatever house we end up buying.

Tlex all of our bath toys live in one suction cupped "basket" that I can hide behind the shower curtain when I shower...otherwise they're in the tub and hidden by the curtain during the day. That has changed my shower peace. I also have a big fat zero drawers in my tiny bathroom.

Slightly off topic but I just started following Simplified Planner on IG. She’s doing a 31 day challenge. I am too. I follow her. I wonder if we are doing the same?

I don't even do bath toys so....no clutter. In water, wash, rinse, out.

I'm thinking about ditching bath toys altogether. Especially since it looks like our new place we'll all be sharing a bathtub/shower.

Some people buy/look for chipped dishes to break and make artsy things, but I'd probably toss them too

DD has started showering so I should at minimum reduce the bath toys too. We also have one suction cup thing for toys, but there are way more than are getting played with these days

What suction cup thing do y'all have that actually... suctions? Every one I've tried just falls off.

I went simple with bath toys and my kid just has 2 little cups and a boat. I dry them off and put them away after every bath....
I guess I Kon Mari the bathtoys.

I think it was Room Essentials or whatever their brand is/was. It's plastic and has holes in the bottom so water can drain out

DS has his own bathroom now so I'm not great at putting away the toys after his bath, but I did minimize them down to one small baskets worth.
For kitchen gadgets, we only keep out what is used daily so that's the espresso machine and the toaster, all other appliances are put away in the under stairs closet.

Are you my future? I really need to do this but it just seems so overwhelming. I had planned to start over Thanksgiving break and got pneumonia. Plan B was to start over Christmas break and I got another horrible cold. Did I make myself sick to avoid organizing and purging? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??
