I just feel the need to disclaimer that Kon Mari has swept the bourgeois world but don't let that bitch make you feel bad about some of the shit you have. Is all of it going to bring you joy? No. No, You don't have to hold your shit and sit with it and expect to have feels or not keep it. As long as your space speaks to your mind and you feel calm while in it then you might have some shit you don't use all the time. All your shit is not trash. So, proceed with caution when reading her. Keep a totem to bring yourself out. This it's exactly her theory. It's not minimalist "get rid of everything".

Yesssss I am here.
I couldn't go full Kon Mari last year. But I did make mental notes of some of the things I was keeping. I told myself I'd revisit this year and if they haven't been used, they will be donated/thrown away.

I need to do a version of this. I’ve been slowly doing so myself, but I need to guide my process better.
We already feel better about our house when it’s clean and organized. I just need to get us back on track. We definitely still have things that have no purpose and I need to tackle that.
I really want our house to be ours. SO moved in and it just seems like he stays here but isn’t here- I had this house for so long before he came along. Part of doing this will help me create the home we want instead of the house we’re living in. More cohesive I think.

Here for this! I got myself a copy of Spark Joy for Christmas.
My home is still looking pretty good. I do a deep clean of my home every 4 months and I’m purging things I probably should have the first time but I’m so much more confident now.
The best is my closet where I don’t feel like I’m compromising if I wear any of my clothes. I like them all!

I KMd my house last year and need to revisit a few areas like the linen closet, pantry, and spice cabinet. And freezers. So mostly the kitchen. Currently pregnant and want to get stuff organized before I'm huge or have a newborn. I'm having an opposite sex baby so I know I really need to sort clothes.
I've also bought the book for at least 3 people who told me they are ready for a giant purge.

I'm so glad this thread exists because my first goal for this year is to declutter our entire house. Clutter is starting to drive me completely nuts.
I'm planning to start with my linen closet, then home office, then kitchen. I'm purging my entire wardrobe and will be trying to convince my husband to do the same (our closet is filled to the brim with stacks of T-shirts he's had for 10+ years and hasn't worn in at least 5). I'm also certain that half the stuff in our storage room and garage can be donated and both of those rooms need major re-organizing.
I don't have any of the Kon Mari books--does anyone know if Spark Joy is worth getting over the original? Or is the original one better?

Tlex Kon Mari my life, plz. Seriously though how do I do this when MH is very unorganized? I truly would come help you if I could! My advice with YH is to lead by example and leave him alone about it. Just do YOUR stuff. MH had a really hard time with the idea and then when he saw the "afters" of my closet, bathroom drawers, etc he was asking for help doing his own. MH used to give me much rage by piling his shit on the dining room table daily. And counter. And bedroom chair. And nightstand. There is none of that shit left to pile and he's used to knowing where it all goes because HE decided where his shit goes and WE decided where our shit goes.

Oooooh I may belong here too. I purge somewhat regularly but need to reeeealy dig into my closet and our basement. I think my kitchen and house type papers are all ok but we just have boxes of photos from like our high school years and stuff like that in our basement it's like...ok...what am I doing with this.
H just cleared out his coats (he had an entire armoire bottom and another coat closet almost filled) so I have a huge bag in my trunk to drop at goodwill and we also did a mini toy purge since DS1 got some big things for xmas.
We're going to replace some of our tv storage with a full wall storage center type thing and I can't wait to organize it all. It'll be nice to combine like 3 different units we have now into one.

I highly recommend the Kon Mari folding style. We’ve been using it for a year for all our folded clothes and love it. YES. I roll DD’s leggings in her drawer and now it’s so great to see all of them instead of when they were folded in stacks and all you saw was the pair on top. i started rolling all my underwear last year and it brings me joy every time i open my draw and see all my neatly rolled draws. Bonus is that it saves me time in the morning since i don't have to rummage for the right colour or cut

I'm just so used to thinking about the closets/rooms in my house that drive me the most crazy so that's how I imagine tackling it in my head. But I need help to form an overall plan and stick with it, which is why I want to follow the actual method... so I will pick up one of the books and do the categories in the right order. Thanks!

I think I need to go here. I lost a lot of my momentum when we found out we wouldn't have to move after all last year and there's still so much more I can do.
My biggest takeaway last year was learning not to be so attached to stuff. Well, that and her folding technique.

There is a free Kon Mari app for both iPhone and android that walks you through the categories, gives you a time line, gives you badges when you complete steps etc. It really helped me power through the last bit, but if I'd had it from day one I'd have used it!
ETA sorry, misinformation - app is only for iPhone now

I am happy to say that as I was packing up my house, there wasn't too much that I felt I didn't love anymore. There are a few cookbooks that H gave me that I don't enjoy, but he packed my "toss" pile so they will be entering the new house.
H and I are 99% sure we are ready for the snip and I'm ready to get rid of my maternity clothing, plus my nursing tops are ready for the garbage. I have a bin of newborn stuff that I'll go through and give away, probably not all of it though. Those teeny sleepers really do bring me joy!
H has a lot of baggage that we are moving, but I will not unpack it for him. It can sit in boxes under his desk until he deals with it.

We are 100% done (H has his uro consult appt next week and hopefully v-day shortly after) and getting rid of the baby clothes as DS2 grows out of them has been SO FUCKING AWESOME. Like, oh, I really DON'T need to save this now. Bye!

I want to do more of this but H and all of his stuff is the sticking point. We'll do some work during the move, but I feel like I've done a fair job purging my stuff (except for clothes, but that will happen once I've popped this kid out and no longer need regular clothes and maternity clothes and post partum clothes hanging around).

I'm done with maternity and nursing clothes. It felt amazing to go through my regular clothes using her method. I'm also a big fan of her folding method. It took me a bit to fully love it but being able to see everything won out in the long run.
Hopefully this will be the year I tackle the rest of the house!

I really want to. I was doing really well in 2016, but only made it half way through paper. I have a new paper shredder and I just got done re-reading the highlights in the book so I'm ready.

Mostly a lurker, but I remember following the thread last year hoping to participate, but didn't get very far. I am going to try to do it this year with you guys! I remember loving the before and after pictures, they motivated me.

I did this last year and it was awesome! My house is still pretty sane. The only thing really piling up is toys. My basement is just full of old toys. I have to go through the bags and put sets together to donate and then chuck whatever isn’t in great shape.

I'm going to do this in advance of selling and moving this year! I am determined to move nothing we won't use, and in all likelihood we'll be doing some sort of downsizing or shift in space even if the square footage is the same. I also have a capsule wardrobe list and I'm going to check off the boxes and get rid of things that aren't on that list, but that all hinges on hitting some weight loss goals for this year too.
Mindful 2018: eating, spending, and tidying.

I am here for this when my house is done! I'm vowing not to bring anything into the house from our storage unit without a place and purpose/joy for it.
