I did horrible with food today. We ended up at the food court for lunch and I had CFA nuggets and fries and soda. I panicked when I ordered re: soda, which I definitely shouldn't have had. I knew lemonade was out, but soda is still acidic as fuck. I should have just asked for water even though the drink was included. I'm trying not to beat myself up since it was one time. Trying to eat a reflux friendly diet is proving really hard in first tri. I understand. I still drink an occasional Diet Coke if I’m in a restaurant but haven’t touched a cup of coffee in at least a month. Even decaf is a huge trigger. Soda doesn’t seem to be as much if a trigger for me.

I was surprised to see in the reflux diet book that it was allowed, but it said one cup preferably with added milk was ok. I definitely need it and so far it hasn't bothered me. Fingers crossed.

So we decided to tell the IL’s while we’re here. MIL was so happy she started crying. She said it was the best Christmas present she could’ve asked for.

goldenbird what book are you getting the reflux diet from? I’ve just been reading online but so much is contradictory.

Basically I was on prilosec for 2 months but my symptoms, hoarse voice and throat issues, didn't change. That was backed up by the ENT looking at my vocal cords/throat and being so shocked that it was still all rough looking. I hadn't made any changes to my diet or anything while being on the meds, which he didn't think I needed to. I ate tons of tomatoes, onions, garlic. A fair amount of alcohol and carbonated beverages. And frequently went to bed with a full stomach. So that pepsin was getting into my throat, being reactivated by all the acidic food/drink, and eating at my throat. I truly need an endoscopy but I won't be able to have one until after the birth due to the sedation. I sort of am ticked at my ENT for making it sound like taking this magic pill and doing absolutely nothing different would just fix everything. 🤔

I'm kind of jealous; at this point, I think I'm just going to get "Again?" and jokes about whether we know what causes it.

This will be the first grandchild on both sides. My sisters are both younger than me and nowhere near having kids. MH is his dad's only child and SMIL doesn't have any kids. They've been chomping at the bit since before we got married 4.5 years ago.

Babies are not a big deal on MH side. There already like 30 or 40 grandkids. There's at least 2 born a year. There were 4 this year.
My family oth is baby obsessed. This will be the 5th grandkid.
Eta: MH and I tried to list all the grandkids and if we counted right, there are 30.

We told our family tonight. FIL and MIL were completely surprised, my mom on the other hand said she knew I was pregnant since thanksgiving, said I just looked different. I'm so glad that she didn't ask me cause I probably wouldn't have told her at that point. Everyone was very happy for us, we were the first to give both sides grandchildren.
