Farenthold needs to resign now. Gross. In what universe would that ever be ok? The universe where Trump is president, unfortunately for all of us.

Steph Curry is #1 on my list of men that I hope to never hear bad things about (e.g., revelations that he is a secret sexual harasser or whatever). Relevant? Shruggy.

One of my coworkers turned me on to Ayesha Curry's Instagram feed last week and I am obsessed. I sometimes watch her cooking show on the Food Network!

Anyone know if the latest version of the tax bill includes the change requiring you to live in your home for 5 years (instead of 2) before selling in order to avoid capital gains tax? I saw it in previous versions but am having a hard time finding a good summary of the current version that addresses this. Will totally change our plans if it's in there. Ugh, I also missed this. And this would probably also change our plans. catspajamas blurnette989, H doesn't actually think the residency requirement has changed, based on his interpretation. I don't know how to post pictures on here but he sent me a screen grab showing current wording.

It simply boggles my mind that the GOP want to push through this tax form that is so deeply unpopular - especially the House that is looking at re-elections in less than a year now. What exactly do they have on the horizon that they think will boost their popularity after people realize that nothing is trickling down to them? They are banking on people not seeing the negative effects of the tax bill until after 2018. The individual tax credits will be in place when they file in April 2018 so most people will be happy and/or forget about it by next November. I thought none of it was applicable until people file taxes in 2019 except for potentially a change in withholding in your current paycheck. I could definitely be misunderstanding that though.

I *really* think this corker thing could be a thing if people keep calling their reps. I'm going to call Wittman today even thought he doesn't give a fuck about my opinion. Hatch is SO OFFENDED that people think this is a kickback for Corker. How very dare all of us!

I think Corker is embarrassed by that (I don't think it was really a kickback to get him onboard personally) but he would really have to be ready to be persona non grata to use it as a reason to not vote for this bill.

CDC Director tweets that there is no ban on words, but fails to use the words or explain what the reports are a "complete mischaracterization" of... ETA: I am only tepidly reassured. The article I posted about this said that they were not allowed to use the words in funding documents. (I'm assuming requests for money from the government or possibly when giving grants. I don't know if the CDC gives grants, but that's beside the point.) I do believe the ban on words is there, but only in that sense and not on their actual research. I think the story was blown up beyond what it actually was, which is still terrifying in my opinion (slippery slope and all that), but that could be the "complete mischaracterization." The CDC does give grants. A fuck-ton of grants. DC has one right now for a 3-year project to engage vulnerable populations - particular transgender people of color - around HIV prevention and care. They fund such a broad array of activities - from opioid crisis response to promotion of condom use to Zika prevention - it is mind-boggling to think this would be an agency-wide ban on these fundamental terms. That said, I do believe the idea of a "ban" is what is probably what is mischaracterized. It is very possible that the agency, or a department within the agency, discussed that certain terms/ideas/programs would be elevated while others would be discouraged, perhaps in an informal way. Just as Dept of Ed sent out letters to grantees this summer saying that "risk avoidance" education (the new and improved abstinence-only ed) would be prioritized. They continued to disburse funds to (most) programs operating comprehensive strategies, but those grantees know they need to be politic about how they phrase things in their communications with Ed going forward. None of this to say it isn't still potentially catastrophic and infuriating and dangerous.

I don’t think this would change his vote. I would love for this to cause a bit of infighting which would put more cracks in the voting foundation.

The last thing I read says it would go into effect January 1 so they would be seeing a decreased payroll tax prior to November, but not the sunset of those deductions
