Wow y’all are chatty today! tgrimes I’m so sorry about M. I hope y’all can get some concrete answers. I’ve been wrapping and refereeing B, who clearly needs to be in school more. C fought a nap hard but is finally down for the count. I’m going to try and get a couple errands done and then we have the holiday party tonight. I need a break from the kids desperately, cannot. Wait.

Sitter question: do y’all leave dinner for a sitter? Money for pizza? Obviously we’ll have stuff for sandwiches, etc. and I asked for her favorite snack foods and will have those. Do I need more?

I usually ask before they come what they like to eat. I’ve offered to order pizza before and they’ve both declined. Both of them usually eat before they come.

Morning all. It feels like it should be Friday. Don't beat yourself up tgrimes. I hope you get to the bottom of what's going on with M soon so she can start to feel better. nam2013, I don't see any problems charging for a family meal--especially if it's always the same person who hosts. It's a heck of a lot of work and a huge expense. And I'd much more appreciate $10 towards grocery debt than a bottle of wine, although I know I'm probably the odd man out on that. Personally, I'd never charge, but I wouldn't bat an eye if a family member did and was doing all the work. cagoldi I hope poor X feels better soon. Yay for going home kim22!!! wineallthetime lolz at snoring during the holiday concert.

Our sitters are usually always one of my sisters and we'll leave money for takeout since we don't pay them. Sometimes they use it and sometimes not. The times we have had a sitter that we are paying, we just tell them to help themselves to any food we may have.

Maybe another UO here but i think it would be just as ludicrous to expect the host to make everything, the stress of hosting would be awful. I would NEVER go anywhere empty handed. Yes and no; generally for family meals at the holidays everyone brings a dish. And on my side anyway, everyone kind of has their set thing bc the menu doesn’t change much year-to-year. For a dinner party or similar, no, I don’t want people bringing random dishes that may or may not work with the menu I have planned. Wine or a hostess gift, lovely. But if someone asks what they can bring I will say, ‘just the pleasure of your company!’ Also, I genuinely like to cook and entertain so I don’t see it as a burden. But others may feel differently—I will always offer to bring something and would bring a gift if nothing was needed for the meal. ETA: regarding charging guests, no I would not do it. Only exception I can think of is of we were like, renting out an event space for a reunion or something and I was just organizing vs. actually hosting.

I'm leaving work in a bit to head to Cassidy's school Christmas presentation. I'll have lunch with her and then head back to work.
I kind of lost it with my husband the other day. I'm happy to say he got the message that I'm at the end of my rope and has stepped it up considerably around the house and with the kids in the evening. I hope it sticks.

I think a dinner party is a different situation. It's a choice someone makes because they want to do it, whereas hosting for the holidays is a task someone in the family has to take on. peachsmama my sister's family is your cousin. They are late to every occasion. Her husband is a great cook and usually brings a dish, but they don't leave any leftovers behind but want to clean my mom out of all of her leftovers. They never help with dishes. They are also usually too lazy to box up their own leftovers but the next day my sister will call my mom hinting she wants leftovers but doesn't want to drive "all the way" to my parents house (10 minutes) so can my mom drop them off at her house?

Hi ladies. Busy morning over here. Dropped n at preschool and stopped at the coffee shop to buy teacher gift cards. Then we had a hearing test and consult with the ENT. He said Hs ears look pretty terrible so I’m excited to see the difference tubes will make! Surgery is next Thursday. I have a feeling his speech will take off after tubes.
Now I’m at subway with the kids. N and I are going to make cookies while h naps this afternoon.

I just ate a bowl of ramen noodles with a numb mouth. This was quite interesting. I’m glad no one was here to see the show. But I was starving and that seemed like it would be the easiest.

tgrimes I hope the gastro is able to figure out what is going on! cagoldi I hope X feels better soon. I picked up Cadence and then we went to Subway. She had just eaten lunch at school, but insisted she wanted a sandwich. She took one bite and is now laying on the couch watching Blaze. It's her school naptime, so she wants to nap, but we have to leave soon for her appointment. Apparently right before pick up a little girl had had a complete meltdown that included throwing chairs and yelling. They had to call the office to have her pulled. They have a new baby at her house and are trying to cold turkey her paci. Not a good combo apparently.

Apparently its Subway day on N13. I just got back to my office with it lol. Someone walked through the bank yesterday and gave everyone here a $10 gift card. I saw A in the parking lot, he had to drop off something at a job site near my work. It's odd to see your spouse out and about like a normal person lol.

I just realized that MH doesn't have anything for his stocking. So I remembered that when he went to PR he got these underwear with silver threads in them that he raved about. Well silly me just googled "mens silver underwear". This is the result. I cannot stop laughing!! possibly NSFW [/quote]

If the sitter was here during dinner I would prepare extra of whatever I was making the kids (or if I told her to make a frozen pizza I’d tell her to eat some).

I showed H Home Alone this morning. I asked her what she though and she said “it was great!” And then said she wants to show daddy it, lol.

Last time I told her we were getting the kids dinner from X restaurant, what can we get for her. She said she didn’t want anything. I always tell her she is welcome to any snacks and drinks in our home as well (and make sure I’m stocked up).
