I find it a little weird, but if it works for your family then that's cool! Also, the only huge holiday party we have like this is Thanksgiving and my grandparents have the tables and my mom and aunts all help with bringing a dish or helping with prep, so it's not quite like what you plan and put on by yourself! My sisters and I are always in charge of bringing chocolates/mints to pass around the table after dinner and we all bring wine as well. That being said, I'd gladly pay to go to a large family dinner that I have to do zero prep work for This seems to be the cultural norm here from my experience. People don't "pay", but contribute by helping, bringing a dish, wine, or hostess gift. This. Is the paying for dinner a fairly normal thing there, nam2013? I've never heard of anyone doing it here, bit maybe it's cultural. Normally, everyone offers to bring a dish and/or you always show up with a bottle of wine or flowers for the table, something like that.

nam2013 I wish I could do that with my family. No one contributes anything on my moms side. My cousins come late, eat, pack up left overs to take home with them and leave without even clearing their plates from the table. I only do it for my grandma. I spent $270 on thanksgiving dinner for 18 people.

I'm snuggling a baby and waiting for the doctors to see if we are going home today. It snowed a decent amount but is suppose to stop now so hopefully the roads will be cleared by the time we leave. How is his bilirubin? Has he been under the light or is it just improving? I hope you get home to your other kids soon He was only an 8 when the test came back last night so we didn't need to do anything.

Colin woke up wet for the first time in almost 2 weeks this morning. He was so upset even after I assured him that no one was mad at him. He's finally been talking about trying underwear at night, I hope this doesn't mess with his confidence.

cagoldi I’m not sure, but no one ever said it was weird. With my inlaws we bring desert, last year we were in charge of all the wine (8bottles) I think most families do the potluck thing or are a lot smaller (Christmas for 20 easily adds up to around €350,-). I never ‘charge’ people for any other dinner ever.

Oh no tgrimes!! I’m so sorry! Poor girl. With S’s shunt related vomiting, was it non stop vomiting or just a few times? I’m starting to spiral over here. With that, the vomiting was caused by pressure on the brain. It was projectile (think exorcist). It would happen several times, then she would be extremely lethargic, like couldn’t even hold her head up. She would sleep for an hour or two, then wake up and do it all again. I’m so sorry that this is happening again. Have you called the gastro? How’s she acting in between the vomiting? I hate that your spiraling, but I also completely understand. You don’t want to jump to worst case scenarios, but something clearly is going on. And it could very well just be a stomach bug with poor timing (so close to the earlier issues). You just don’t know. It sucks and I hate this for you guys.

I am on day4 of this 7day diet. I have a little holiday party today that I think I will skip so I am not tempted. I have decided that through the holiday season I am going to bring a ziploc bag or tupperware to work for tempting sweets. If someone brings a cookie that I really want to try I can put it away and save it for next week without FOMO. I'm down 2.5# already and easily put on my smaller size 14 pants. I love this. Makes me feel less weird about how I brought my giant box of fruits and veggies when we went whale watching.

Ugh.
X wiped out his crib with vomit right after we put him down and got a second wind so both boys were up until 9. Normal bedtime is 7:30. Then X was up howling for a bottle at 5:30. I thought Dude was able to fall back asleep but nope, he just bust out of his room all upset because we were downstairs and he couldn't sleep. It's going to be a long day.
On the bright side, X seems to have some energy, no fever, and a better appetite.

nam2013 if that's how your family does it I don't thinks it's odd. If a friend sent out an invite to a party and said it was $25 without any warning I wouldn't go. My family has a host but we all bring things to ease the hosts responsibility. This year we are in charge of the creamed corn and desserts.

TMI alert The nurse called me back and the gastro wants to see her at 3:30 today. Now I feel horrible because I think she might have blood in her stools. Today when I wiped it was a reddish brownish color. I’ve noticed this before but didn’t think anything of it because I thought if there was blood in her stool I’d see actual blood or it would be bright red. And she usually poops right afterwards and it’s fine. Dammit, I should have called the gastro last week. He previously said if he couldn’t find anything wrong with her he’d refer us to a neurologist, but if there is actual blood in her stools, it’s probably a gastro issue, right? I’m just so pissed right now and I want to know what’s going on with my baby.

tgrimes What everyone else has said, you can't beat yourself up over it, I would have expected to see actual spots of blood, so I wouldn't have thought anything of it. I'm glad the doctor can see her today, I hope you get some answers. I would be so frustrated if I were you. Hugs to both of you.

maybe a trigger.....IDK
I'm at work listening to the radio and they are having a 'Home for the Holidays', where listeners call in and tell their story of why they need to go home. One woman's mother has less than a month to live and is out east, the next caller was a lady saying that in honour of her Dad that passed 3 years ago she will buy a ticket for her to go home to be with her mother. This has been happening all week. I'm crying like a baby over here. Ugh, kindness like this gets me ever time.

vino There is a radio station here that does 'Hope for the Holidays.' People down on their luck, for whatever reason, medical, loss of income, etc, call in with their stories and the DJ takes calls from listeners for donations. I can't listen to it anymore because I cry like a baby. The generosity of complete strangers restores my faith in humanity. Several times, the callers to donate are people who have previously received help through the same radio station. It really touches me. They consider it a hand up, not a hand out.
