I'm about 40% through The Fifth Season and enjoying it. I need to escape my family to have time to read! That trilogy was really good, but it took me forever to get through them. They were just really slow reads for me. It took me a month to get through all three, which is highly unlike me, lol. Worth it though! Yes, I agree that they aren't fast reads.

I finished Game of Lies. It was decent but I liked the first one just slightly better.
Iβll start funny story tonight.

Reading related question that I saw in a FB group...do you have more than one e-reader and why?
I have a paperwhite that's a few years old. I think I have a book hoarding problem because sometimes I end up downloading a bunch, put it in airplane mode before they're due, then wish I had a second device for the new books that are coming up in Libby. But if I get a second will that just make me a book AND an e-reader hoarder?

I have an older model paperwhite. Iβm not sure why Iβd need another, unless I get a Kobo at some point to borrow Canadian library books, since kindle isnβt supported here.

I have a Kindle paper white that H literally just gifted me last week or the week before, and I've been using my iPad mini for years prior to that. I have like 400 books between iBooks and Nook apps (I previously had an original Nook reader, but that was like 15ish years ago), but I've also been using the libby app & kindle unlimited, so it made since to "upgrade" to a kindle.

I tried two Colleen Hoover books before I was annoyed enough to stop reading her altogether. Not a fan. It kept me turning the pages but I also hated Verity so much it felt like a hate read. The ending was absurd It's been a long time since I read it but I remember hating the ending. It felt like such lazy writing to me I don't really understand turning it into a movie but we will see. Maybe it'll be one of those movies they change a few things to make it better π€£

Could be that group or Kindle Girlies or something. I might have to drop the groups though because I find myself reading about books more often than I'm actually reading books sometimes. I should dig up the Kindle Fires the teenagers had as kids and use one of those as a secondary.

I picked Minka Kellyβs memoir βTell Me Everythingβ for my Buzzword pick for May (the word βeveryβ). I finished it yesterday and wow, it was fantastic. I highly recommend it. She narrates the audiobook too, so definitely do that if you are an audiobook fan too. I love her voice. Her story/her childhood was crazy. I had no idea. Sheβs a great storyteller and her writing is wonderful. Add it to your list! Thank you for the rec. I love a good memoir and probably would not have picked hers up since I know nothing about her except Friday Night Lights and her famous boyfriends. lol. I never watched FNL but I know thatβs how a lot of people know her. I recognized her from her few episodes on Parenthood. Iβve always thought she is one of the most gorgeous human beings in existence too.

Finally finished Kingdom of Ash the other day, 5 stars. Iβm sad the series is over but I greatly enjoyed it and I was satisfied with the ending.
I just finished The Women. I really liked it a lot and will likely pick up a few more of KHβs books now since I like her style. I gave it 4 stars, mainly because a lot of the plot became predictable to me. Which doesnβt mean it was bad at all, but made it just a slight bit less enthralling overall. I appreciated her accurate reflection of PTSD.

I finished Butcher and Blackbird and meh, i was bored by the end and just wanted it over. I skimmed the bonus chapter. I know itβs a romance book and not a thriller but I wanted more from the characters, like how did they find their victims when the police couldnβt? How did Sloan capture them and drag them back to her container kill room? A second storyline following the police side of their kills would have been an interesting dimension.

Finally finished The Vacancy in Room 10. Meh. It started and ended pretty well but the middle was sort of a mess.
On to a few May releases.

I liked it, but I agree with you. Iβm hoping she talks about that part in the next book. I was looking for something light after my last read. I started eternal reign on KU. Vampire dystopian. Itβs ok so far.

I finished Happy Medium and it was just ok for me. I thought it had the same quirky humor as Mrs. Nashβs Ashes but the romance didnβt do it for me this time.
I also read The Frozen River, which was great. I donβt generally like historical fiction but the murder aspect kept me interested lol.
Iβm reading I Know You by Claire McGowan.

But if I get a second will that just make me a book AND an e-reader hoarder? I do but for reasons that I feel are justified and I only use the one. My paperwhite is probably 5-7 years old now. Over the last several months, my husband started reading a little and the books he wanted were older and super easy to find immediately on Libby, so he was using my paperwhite to read them. I was then forced to read physical books which bleh, I just donβt like them as much, and itβs only gotten worse over the years as I used my paperwhite more and more. Christmas was coming up and we are always struggling with ideas for each other. The kindle oasis was getting talked about in a lot of my book groups, and I had some old echo dots to trade in, so between Black Friday sales and their trade in deals, I got it for an amazing price. Now if he or my daughter want to read an ebook, they can use my old paperwhite, and I have my new Oasis.

I read a book called I Thought I Knew (trigger warning for SA). It was rated over 4.5 on good reads, and Iβm not sure why. It was ok. I predicted the whole book early on. The writing was kinda just meh for me. I rated it βοΈβοΈβοΈ
I donβt know. Maybe Iβm broken.

Left the house early just so I could sit in my car in the parking lot with my latte and uninterrupted reading time so I could finish a good book. Book was Northwoods by Amy Pease. It's a mystery/crime drama that also addresses the opioid crisis and veteran PTSD, set in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. It wasn't perfect, but it pulled me in and I enjoyed the writing. Gave it 4 stars and would recommend. Just wish I had read it while I was in the Northwoods a couple of weeks ago.
Now I think I'm going back to Romantic Comedy, which I left unfinished a while back, since the Libby loan came through again. Next up from library stack is either Yellowface or A Very Typical Family.

Kindle unlimited/kindle store is much better for buying books, but having libby and borrowing on the kobo is much better. so I've seen people who have one of each for that reason. I don't buy as many ebooks so I just stick to kobo. haha I hadn't considered 2 e-readers for the airplane shuffling.

So I can't remember if I've posted my April round up, life has been chaotically busy, so April wasn't a super great month quantity wise, but I quite enjoyed most of what I read. I am in love with the Chestnut Spring series by Elsie Silver, they're cowboy romances, but I love the characters and the smut.
Flawless by Elsie Silver - 5 stars Severance by Ling Ma - 2.5 stars The House of Last Resort by Christopher Golden - 4 stars The Centre by Ayesha Manazir Siddiqi - 3.5 stars Heartless by Elsie Silver - 5 stars
May has been not good so far, I have DNF'd three books: Parasol Against the Axe, Once in A Millennial and Piglet. So I picked up a horror romance by V. Castro: Immortal Pleasures, so hopefully that will get me out of my slump

You may recall that my mother-in-law offered to pre-read the Twisted series by Anna Huang that my 14-year-old had ordered. She's informed me that it's for sure not teenager appropriate. She said she's almost 70 and isn't sure if she's old enough to read it - but assured me that she'll power through the series, for research purposes of course. Thinking a bookstore gift card so she can buy more smut might be in order for her mother's day gift.

Funny Story is definitely not my favorite Emily Henry. About half way through and I'm very meh. Part of it is the smell of pot smoke makes me ill and I'm intrinsically personally biased against heavy pot users. So part of it is me.

I just finished my first Taylor Jenkins Reid book, One True Loves. I liked it and just requested The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
I read a faith-based story similar to One True Loves a long time ago and occasionally still think about it. I wonder if this book will stick with me as much...

In the last few days I've finished Labyrinth's Heart by M.A. Carrick (4 stars), and On a Quiet Street by Seraphina Nova Glass (3.5 stars). Labyrinth's Heart was really good, did find some pacing issues this time but I thought it was a satisfying end to the Rook & Rose series.
On a Quiet Street is a thriller that follows a trio of women in a suburban PNW neighborhood - Paige, who is looking for answers after her son was killed in a hit and run a year before the book's events; Cora, who thinks her husband is cheating on her; and Georgia, a reclusive young wife and mom who may have more going on behind closed doors. I thought it was a decent story, rode the edge of my anxiety at times, but still good. I listened to this on audio and thought the VA did a fantastic job. Please note: TW for abuse/assault.
Now reading Broken Throne, the short story anthology of the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard.

One of the streaming services, Netflix maybe, supposedly bought the rights for Evelyn Hugo, but nothing has happened yet. You would probably also enjoy Maybe In Another Life.
