I stopped listening to The Marriage Act. I just cannot follow along or get into it on audiobook format
I did start listening to The Ruins by Scott Smith though which I'm very excited about because I've wanted to read it forever!
Physical book wise, I'm currently reading Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt and I am looooving it so far.

I have to recommend Things Fall Apart. We don't learn about African history in US schools from an African perspective. This is the story of a tribal warrior and what happens to him and his people when the colonizers come. The last line is an absolute gut punch. I read this for the first time in high school and it's still on the bookshelf in my living room.

I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns last night after slowly moving through it over about a week. When things are in different languages or discuss objects I don’t know, I look them up so I can fully understand what’s happening. So this one took some effort.
I’ll be honest, I did not like the way it ended. I don’t know what I was expecting, and this is going to sound so weird, but I didn’t have the emotional breakdown I had been expecting. Certain scenes really grabbed me by the heart strings, but there was no sobbing at the end like some other historical fiction I’ve read. Also, I really would have liked the story to add more about the Afghani point of view in regards to 9/11. It was only briefly touched on.
Overall it was a solid 4-4.5 stars though for me.

I read four books in April:
Seven Days in June by Tia Williams 4⭐️ Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson 3⭐️ How we Named the Stars by Andres Ordorico 4⭐️ Outlive by Peter Attia (audio book) 4⭐️
How we named the stars was my favorite but it was so gut wrenching. Like I wanted to hold the main character in my arms and comfort him.
Outlive was a slog. I think it’s like 17 hours and it’s so dense. I’m glad I listened to it because I’m interested in the topic (longevity and health span) but I’m glad I’m done. I learned some stuff and felt some rage about some things.

I've read a lot of his already but yeah, I'm just kind of working through his list. Some aren't available on Libby so I'm not worrying about those.

I read 16 books in April.
I just finished reading Black Girl You Are Atlas by Renée Watson (YA, poetry). It was my second five star read of the year. I both listened to and read the book. The book has beautiful illustrations to go along with some of the poems. The author narrates the book herself and does a fantastic job.

I finished Hex. I loved it! My second 5 star book of the year, and going on my list of favorites. I had a feeling it would be after I got about halfway through. I loved the ending, and the acknowledgements at the end added to the overall feel too. Creepy, thought provoking and entertaining I really liked the last survivor at the end of the world and get a knock at the door horror vibe for the ending. A+ [/s)Spoiler]

I had never heard of it or him before but I saw it recommended on tik tok. Those don't usually end up working out well for me but I'm glad I read this one

I picked Minka Kelly’s memoir “Tell Me Everything” for my Buzzword pick for May (the word “every”). I finished it yesterday and wow, it was fantastic. I highly recommend it. She narrates the audiobook too, so definitely do that if you are an audiobook fan too. I love her voice. Her story/her childhood was crazy. I had no idea. She’s a great storyteller and her writing is wonderful. Add it to your list!

I decided to start my reread of Dark Matter last night. It sucked me right in like the first time. In my head I wanted to read until I got to a certain plot point, but it happened much further into the story than I remembered. I didn’t care at all because I was so immersed in the story. Before I knew it, I was at 33% in one sitting, and I was finally at the beginning of the point I had been trying to get to, but there was still soooo much more I needed to read to feel satisfied. I’m enjoying it so much, so I think I’m going to keep going. It’s actually one the books on the list for the ICYMI challenge for 2016, so I might end up using it for that, even though I didn’t ’miss it’ in the first place lol
I’m extra excited for the show now!

I finished A Strange Hymn. I liked it. I like the characters so I will likely continue with the series. I want to know what happens.

The last book I finished in April was Just for the Summer, which I loved. That may have been the longest it's ever taken me to read a book I loved bc I was just so busy. May isn't looking any calmer!
I read Verity this weekend. I am not impressed.

I flew through The Other Mothers by Katherine Faulkner this weekend. I literally didn't want to stop reading until I finished. She's new to me so I just requested her first book, Greenwich Park.
Now I've started The Excitements, and I adore one of the main character's sassiness already. I think this is the first WW2 dual timeline I've read from a British POV.

I absolutely loved it. And I didn't know her before really nor do I normally enjoy memoirs.

I finished And the mountains echoed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 jaygee you owe me some tissues I’m making my way through the lonely hearts club on KU while I wait on one of my library holds. It’s ok. I borrowed ruthless vows since they added it to KU, but I need to read a summary of divine rivals first. It’s been a minute since I read it.

My current library shelf on my bookshelf is almost full so I need to buckle down and read this weekend That was my plan too but it didn't happen. I love my library but the pending arrival dates are liars so I'll check my holds one day to see if I need to suspend anything and everything will be 20-45 days off, then the next day there are three items waiting for me. I'm into Northwoods by Amy Pease right now and have Weyward on deck.

I'm about 40% through The Fifth Season and enjoying it. I need to escape my family to have time to read! That trilogy was really good, but it took me forever to get through them. They were just really slow reads for me. It took me a month to get through all three, which is highly unlike me, lol. Worth it though!
