I’m looking for a good potato soup recipe now for my sister’s party Sunday Anyone have a favorite? My family doesn’t eat it so I’ve never made one This one is really good, and I’m pretty sure I got it from someone who posted it on this board a while back. I use precooked bacon and half and half instead of evaporated milk (only because I always have half and half). www.theslowroasteditalian.com/slow-cooker-potato-soup-recipe/Forgot to add- I halve the amount of onion. It was way too much with the full amount. This is the recipe I use too! I've never had a problem with the amount of onion though, but it's all personal preference.

Our school board just approved next year's calendar. They took away our spring break and for some reason the last day of school is a Monday. I cannot fathom what they were thinking with that move. You couldn't find another day in there somewhere? our last day this year is a half day Monday. And all of the summer camps are charging full week care.

Our calendar for next year was released. We have off 2 full weeks at Christmas time. I thought they would bring us back on Thursday 1/2 but we don’t go back til Monday 1/6. I’m already excited thinking about it. 😂

We don’t have any camp options until the second full week of summer vacation. You’d think they could coordinate with the school schedule better.

I just realized we start after Labor Day AND we get spring break AND we get out earlier than anyone else we know. Plus a minimum of one early release day a month. 🤔

The camps here adjust their weekly rates for weeks with holidays like Juneteenth and July 4th. I can't remember -- do you live somewhere with snow days?

So I have been traveling for the last week for work and had a couple really strange incidents. First, the toilet in my room kept randomly flushing on its own. I decided it was a ghost and named it Mario the plumber.
But here is the funny/awful/insert your own description - on Wednesday night at 2:45 am I woke up standing in the middle of a hallway of the floor of my hotel in my pajamas. I had to go down to the lobby in my pajamas and bare feet to ask them for a key to get back in my room. Apparently I sleepwalked out of my room (undoing the latch on the door) and was wandering the hall.

Had to keep DS home again today because he is super snotty still and 😫😫😫. I went out with my friend last night for happy hour/dinner. We had a couple beers and then went to Grocery Outlet because that’s a wild night out for us now. 😂

In PA it's 180 days but I only learned very recently some states do not have a minimum.

And thankfully I sleep in very conservative pajamas when I travel for work. My boss was like - I sleep in a long shirt and underwear. It would have been horrible. After confirming I was ok, my coworkers are now having a good laugh

I don’t know what it is for piratecat, but here there is a minimum of 180 days, but there are so many exceptions that it renders the rule meaningless. No one seems to care that they have steadily reduced the number of school days every year since I’ve had kids in the school system. I get so annoyed about it.

They offer a childcare sitation on Fridays, but the families I know with kids there have a SAH parent or one that has a flexible part time gig.

Apparently the 4 day school week is a holdover in a lot of agricultural communities?

There's a private here that also has Fridays off, but I have no idea what the schedule is for the rest of the week. It's probably similar to that, plus the teacher to kid ratio is smaller, so I think they're able to make better use of their classroom time.

They're different from other schools here in a lot of other ways, too, like being far more hands-on and spending tons of time outdoors, even into upper grades. I think DS would do well in a school like that, but they're also one of the few privates that is just as expensive as his daycare was. And we just got done with that shit.

If we had 5 fewer required days I could have a spring break haha. Looking again I think that the xmas holiday falling weirdly in the middle of the week is the culprit for my lost spring days.

piratecat we have 180 rule (I don’t believe NY allows you to go by hours). We have 3 snow days built into our calendar and then if we exceed that they start taking away days from breaks. They never return the days to us either so they don’t shorten it. NY requires off for Juneteenth and I think that being in the middle of the week this year because of the leap year is what caused it.

We have the occasional half day, but they have been greatly reduced in the last couple of years because they stagger the release times to accommodate the bus schedule, and the elementary teachers got pissed when the high school got out before they did. So now they avoid them to try to reduce teacher complaints. Although, I would not be at all surprised if they come up with some reason why the Friday before Spring Break needs to be an early release day and then give parents 2 days notice. That's what they did at Thanksgiving.

But early release days count as full days as long as the kids are fed lunch. Our closest k-8 school and all the schools in the district have early release at noon every single Wednesday. They count it as a full day because they serve lunch--which mean they start serving lunch about 10am to get thru all the classes.

The 16YO just got a job as a bagger at a local grocery store; much excitement faded he did the math on how many hours he has to work to pay his car insurance. I told him to add 2-3 hours on to account for taxes and he declared the whole thing a scam. 😂
