The little kitten’s hip and spay surgery is today, and unfortunately I can’t be there. I know she’s in good hands but I have anxiety. I guess this means I’m adopting her. Big shock to everyone involved 🙄 I would've been tempted to make the long drive to adopt her myself if not... She is big mad.

We're getting settled into the new house and new routines. Everyone/everything is set up temporarily but it's all working out better than expected. Today I got my work area set up in the living room, which is temporarily set up in the dining room. Big kid started riding the bus home this week and will start riding both ways starting next week. He had early release today but between reading and Dinosaur George lessons, I've managed an almost full work day, so that's pretty cool.

I have a dumb question. Anyone here hang most of their clothes to dry? Is there a secret to your jeans not being able to stand on their own? 🤣 I've been using gain liquid fabric softener but wondering if a different kind would work better. Right now we can run the dryer for about 10 minutes and then have to wait forever to run it another 10 minutes so I've been doing that to fluff them a bit but the towels are still pretty scratchy. I hang a lot. I do a 10 minute fluff for things that need it, especially towels and jeans. I use white vinegar instead of fabric softener so idk if that helps or hurts with softening. Basically I am at the same place. 😂 I do this too. I do not use fabric softener. Just vinegar and dryer balls. 🤷🏻♀️

You guys I actually was able to help dd with her math homework last night.
She thought I was a genius. I’ll be sad if they come back wrong 😂

DD is in Algebra this year and I literally cannot remember it. I look at her homework and go cross eyed. So many letters! Thank goodness she doesn’t need help often because I’m like sure I can help. Let me just Google real fast. Looking at DD’s work makes me feel real dumb real quick.

There were a few that I guessed on but a few I could really help with. Her teacher is not great so I’m glad I could help her some

B is now banned from YouTube after I found him on his computer when I was about to go to bed last night, a full 1.5 hours after he was supposed to be in bed. Whyyyyy do kids make such dumb decisions?
Yeah yeah yeah, pre-frontal cortex and all that...

SD has zero self control. Absolutely none. By her senior year we've given up on a lot, but it's been a really solid struggle to hold boundaries where I know she can't hold them for herself.

Yeah I guess by the time they are potentially getting ready for college you've got to let them make some decisions on their own, huh? Honestly sometimes I need someone to tell me when to turn off the tv too.

But she'll be 18 in a couple months. She'll be in college in August. We won't be able to control anything at that point. We've tried to be very conscious about slowly letting loose on things over the course of high school so she got a little more freedom each year. Slightly later curfews. Fewer phone restrictions. We turned off grade notifications this year. Etc. So nothing was all at once but she still had rules. And she's still not happy lol so WHATEVER.

I’ll be sad if they come back wrong 😂 H and I both had very math heavy majors in college, and a couple weeks ago he helped DD1 with her homework, and I just randomly skimmed it (I almost never look at her hw unless she asks) and decided to look up something I wasn’t sure about, some sort of graph. H had been wrong so I had to tell her, via Google and not my own math knowledge, the correct thing. It was humbling. 😂

I thought he was doing so well, but this was a backslide we were not prepared for. Now he is dealing with the consequences of his actions and we'll slowly work back up to trusting him with those devices at some point.

She almost failed math last fall. This year she's in one dual credit class (English, which she loves and is good at), one dual enrolled class (where we can't see the grade anyway), and a bunch of blow-off shit. Although I logged on to go through messages about scholarships and saw she has missing assignments in just one class... drum roll... INDEPENDENT LIVING. I died.

Guys, it is 2024. Lock down all the electronics so they turn off at a certain time. Love yourselves. We just discovered my ds was on his kindle until 2 AM last night. It's a kindle paperwhite that has one of those really crappy browsers that most people only use to download more books. It also is set to a child's profile with limits to using the wifi between 10 pm and 7 am. Yet he was using the browser until 2 am last night. My ds is smarter than me (and apparently dh) with these things because this is only the most recent in a long line of electronics that have been physically taken away because he is using them inappropriate at times when we're TRYING to allow him to build back trust. Yay.

My DD2, bless her heart, is the sneakiest ever about her tablet. She will sneak out of her room at night and grab her tablet from the charging port, and bring it back into her room. There are times I have been awake and in the area the tablet is, and she was able to evade me. I was… impressed?
And obviously we moved the tablet charging area after that, but wtf. 😂

Okay but if I was still getting grades I would FOR SURE be missing them in independent living as well. Seems legit. Kind of feel for our kids because they can’t hide things from us as easily as they could in the 90s. On the other hand well proof arrives daily that this is a good thing!

I'm laughing at Independent Living. DS's class took surveys a while ago meant to assess their social/emotional skills (I forget what they called them- they actually were referred to as career readiness skills because #capitalism I guess) and they got rated 1-5 in 5 categories. He got a 5 in Supportive Relationships but got a 3 or 3.5 in all the others which included Organization and Emotional Regulation. I Lol'd because #1 Yes and # 2 Duh. He's 11.

Seniors have to take Independent Living and/or Personal Finance. She's taking both, thank goodness, because she needs them. It appears as though Personal Finance is going better. Hopefully those skills are retained and she is better with money as a young adult than I was.
