Running an entire school district is hard? Ya don't say. Imagine. Our city school board's newest member is a 19 year old graduate from the district. They had him on the news and he's fantastic. I'm so excited to see a young person who is deeply invested in a district that has been a complete dumpster fire for forever coming up to try and help. It really keeps giving me good feelings about Gen Z. When I did the candidate forum at the HS I mentioned wanting to create a non-voting student position on the board and every class period at least one kid asked about it, they seemed excited about getting engaged Yes! Oh my gosh, what a fantastic idea! School boards need student voices. Our superintendent meets with a small group of students once a month to get input from their perspective. I always appreciate that she does that.

I missed the call because I was at preschool pickup, but the Superintendent called me today and left a message basically encouraging me to not give up because he thinks I would make a great school board member and he hopes I stay engaged I've picked up most of the signs I've been able to track down, there are maybe 20 more out there, but I have plenty if I decide to run again That phone call speaks volumes. Definitely stay involved ❤️

I always appreciate that she does that. When I was in high school, we had this - the student council elected one of their own, same way they elect the president/VP/etc (my senior year, it was me). I don't know if they still do that... I hope so.

Helping to juice turnout is an amazing accomplishment in itself! So proud of you!! Our turnout was literally double what we normally get for the off year school board races, it's amazing! Currently I'm sitting at about 8850 votes vs about 12k for my opponents, but I'm really hoping to get up to 9K for the final totals. That would be 50% higher than my original vote goal this is incredible! I hope you are as proud of yourself as we are!

Pizzaslut , I'm actually proud of Ohio. Don't say I never said anything nice about the Buckeye state Pot AND reproductive rights? Never thought I'd see the day! Welcome to the party from Michigan! Happy to say we are proud of OH, too! 🤣😎

I can also tell I'm becoming a totally legit adult because I know someone who is running for city council (in a different ward than I'm in). This was me, I saw signage for an acquaintance running for city council and was like "I know her!" Very strange. We didn't have anything going on outside of that so I'm just catching up and loving what I am seeing!!! Man, we needed this.

We went to a "Safety and Security" forum by the district last night and I was one of the only people not currently employed by the district to show up 🤦♀️ But everyone was super nice and told me they hope I run again and blah blah blah. On the way home we grabbed McDonald's and the boy at the food window recognized me from the HS candidate forum and was super excited about seeing me.
It feels kind of weird, especially because I am terrible at accepting compliments, but I am thankful for so much positive feedback.

We had a senior run and win here a seat on the school board, he’s out of state at college and refuses to give up his seat unless they appoint another student because he originally lobbied for a non voting seat. The olds are not happy. mrsweasley you did fabulous and I hope you run again!!

I can tell you from experience, school district folk don't just say that to blow smoke. They want you. Keep going! I'd be willing to bet you could get some educators to campaign for you next time.

Unfortunately I think a lot of educators liked the retired superintendent/former board member that ended up running, but I'm hopeful I could find some! Going up against 2 (old) retired long time educators was my hurdle It's so hard to ask for endorsements, it's something I chickened out of doing this time around. DD's teacher told me she's proud of me for running. There's been a lot of shenanigans on OH coming after teachers and admin for the past few years for levy activity so I think most of them don't want to rock the boat either

WaPo reporting that Abigail Spanberger will not seek re-election to her House seat because she intends to run for Governor. Possibly announcing super early, not sure if that is good or bad.
