Yesterday I found out my daughter’s bully was banned from the bus indefinitely. I feel an evil laugh coming on at the thought of the parents arranging transportation for the rest of the year when school just started. Fuck around and find out indeed. This is basically me.

I don't think I updated, but DD had an AMAZING time at camp and it was so great to see her so relaxed and at peace with herself. I'm so glad she has this. Right now she's the best she's been in about 11 months. She started school this week and mood is generally ok, but the anxiety has already kicked in and complaining of chest pain, etc. during the day. I feel like her team at school is supportive, so right now it's just the beginning of the year kinks getting worked out, and hopefully we'll get this figured out. I am more hopeful than I was at the end of last year at least, for now. I am so happy to hear this

One of the questions I got from the League of Women Voters for their local candidate mailer is about how I would handle bullying as a school board member. Right after asking about what you understand the job of a school board member to be
As much as I would want to be able to get involved in helping, dealing with cases of bullying is not a school board member job. I have heard anecdotally from parents that issues are not being handled well, but the district had good policies on paper and I'm not sure what a board member could do to improve the individual issues short of firing the Superintendent. It's a tricky one

mrsweasley, I think the sound bite kind of answer you need here is that you would as a school board member you can't get involved in individual cases, the teachers and school administration are on the ground so to speak and need to handle bullying face to face with the students involved. If there are reports that policy is not working, see if there are tweaks that need to make the policy better, and create some kind of metric to check if the policy is being followed, and how well it is working. Do some check ins with school administrations to get their feedback on any changes that need to be made. or blah blah stuff that sounds right.
