Minerva, I visited the aquarium here and met their aquarists and got to hear about some of the research they do there and I thought of you.

I called the board of election a few minutes before closing and only the 2 older guys (former and current board members) and I turned in petitions. Today was the deadline, so the 3rd guy either didn't get enough or changed his mind. I think any of us on the board will be a good thing, I think we're all pro-good schools!

I usually fly and then drive to family… that made me want to spend some time in St. Paul. It kind of reminds me of how Milwaukee get when I lived there.

We drive up tomorrow to pick up DD from camp Saturday! Sounds like she's having a blast (we know a counselor on staff who has texted her mom a few tidbits, so insider knowledge). We got an actual factual letter from her yesterday (took a week to arrive NH-VA!!)- it was hand written (we have some fill in the blank print outs that she typically uses) with some sketches like I typically make for her in the cards we send, and my gosh, I think I'm going to frame it. She says she's having a great time.
DH and I leave momentarily to meet her new teachers and sped teacher (who turns out I know through some volunteering and I think will be a better fit than who was indicated last year!).

Well, dropped all 4 off at school. Newest Kindergartener was so excited, so that helped me cope, but I still teared up in the car a bit. One of the teachers saw us in the hallway on the way out and said “they are having coffee and donuts for the adults, if you want.” I replied “Thank you, but I prefer to cry alone in the car.”

Yesterday, when I asked how his day was he replied “did I pass?!?” Today, he responded “it was GREAT!” As for me, I was making my iced/blended coffee this morning and my blender began smoking. But I’m calling it a win.

My DS1 is 6! His bday was yesterday and at the end of the day he said it was the best day of his life and he will remember it forever. 💕 we did a bowling bday party and pizza for dinner at our fav pizzeria and minus a few over tired moments he did great. I can’t believe I have a first grader 😭

So we had a strange happening last night. At 3 am, a police officer rang our doorbell to inform us that someone had made a 911 call and hung up at our residence. They knew who it was, and it was neither of us. They told H to make sure nothing was missing and to let them know if anything happened.
Kind of creepy and made it hard to sleep afterwards.

We had this happen early during covid. Was it from a cell phone or a landlines? Ours was a cell phone so they could have been anywhere sort of nearby and long gone, but it's obviously still jarring to be woken up MOTN with a problem I hope you all can rest easy

I had a DAY today, it feels like a pile on
There are suspected carpenter ants in the house, DS2 chipped a tooth and cut his lip (not a huge chip, but it's a top front tooth), the main bathroom mirror separated from the wall 😳 (the caulk at the bottom and the light fixture at the top appear to be the only things stopping it from falling), and I found out my name is officially certified for the ballot, which is good but bringing a lot of anxiety/nerves. I was jittery all day because I knew it should come out today
I left a message for the dentist, requested a Terminex visit, and taped the mirror to the wall (probably excessively), so I've taken all the steps I can for now. I just a bundle of anxiety left that I need to try and calm before bed
tl;dr Hopefully tomorrow is a better day

Obligatory F healthcare 😫
The pediatric dentist we've used before no longer takes our insurance and nobody else is accepting new patients, even self pay. Fortunately our regular dentist is willing to take a look at him and can fit him in tomorrow, as long as DS2 is cooperative. I'm not optimistic

DS2 did FANTASTIC at the dentist, they smoothed out his chip and were even able to clean his teeth. He came home and threw the remote in the trash "just to see what would happen", so you win some you lose some I guess 🤦♀️
The kids also had regular checkups today and he got his 5 year vaccines, which included a lot of screaming and theatrics. The nurse wasn't exactly gentle either. I might need to look into one of those buzzy bees

Terminix came out today and treated the house in and out, they don't think the ants are living IN the house, so that's a plus
I got mirror anchors and secured the top of the bathroom mirrors. DS2 told me all about how "boring" shopping at Home Depot was, but it got a few chuckles
The BOE officially released the candidate list. I need to focus on picking a fundraising platform and setting up my SM 😬 I have a friend that is a photographer and she offered to take pictures, we need to find a time the weather isn't so miserable

mrsweasley we battle ants every year (it’s a neighborhood thing, we’re all pretty certain our houses were built on top of some major nesting ground or something) and the best thing I have found for interior ants is Terro liquid ant bait. I put it out in waxed/parchment paper near where I see them, they all come out in droves to eat it and bring it back to the nest where it kills all of them. It’s a disgusting 24-48 hours and I have to sit on my hands not to kill everyone I see feeding but it gets the job done.

I don't think I updated, but DD had an AMAZING time at camp and it was so great to see her so relaxed and at peace with herself. I'm so glad she has this. Right now she's the best she's been in about 11 months. She started school this week and mood is generally ok, but the anxiety has already kicked in and complaining of chest pain, etc. during the day. I feel like her team at school is supportive, so right now it's just the beginning of the year kinks getting worked out, and hopefully we'll get this figured out. I am more hopeful than I was at the end of last year at least, for now.

byjoveI'm so happy for you and your daughter for this update. Take the joys where you can. Store them up for when you inevitably hit a bump in the road. May all your bumps smooth out and not turn into Mt everest

So happy to hear this byjove. We've seen some improvements in DS1's mood over this summer and I know how great it feels to see them doing better. ❤️❤️❤️
