So the booster may not be made available to everyone? TF Next, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's independent panel of advisors is set to meet on Sept. 12 to provide a recommendation on who will be eligible for the shots. The CDC director is expected to sign off, with shots to be available soon after. It remains to be seen who the advisers will recommend should receive the updated booster. Additional protection is especially important for those most at risk, such as those over 65 years old and those with immunocompromised conditions, experts say. www.msn.com/en-us/health/other/covid-19-booster-shots-expected-as-early-as-next-week/So I guess we'll find out next week? Not feeling optimistic about this.

Took the 3 year old to the pediatrician today since she now has whatever her sister had over the weekend. She started having trouble breathing so we've been doing breathing treatments with her, but that's probably due to her asthma since every cold/virus tends to affect her lungs. Thankfully* it's just a generic virus and not covid or the flu.
*lolsob that we're completely happy with just generic sick because at least it's not covid sick

byjove MH tried to get another booster when he went for his annual checkup recently and they told him he wasn’t eligible as he had no health issues. It’s disconcerting.

I didn't know who Offit was in the PBS article, but apparently he is fucking on the advisory panel to determine who gets a booster.
Moderna claims that the booster increases protection 9x against the new variants. Seems good, no? I'd like that please.
Not even letting myself get hopeful that I'll be able to get another Novavax.

Wtf?? I think the general we would like to decide for ourselves if we want to get the booster! I understand the government not covering the cost anymore. But we should be able to get it if we want to and pay for it out of pocket or with insurance coverage.
Unless this is a shitty way of them saying they won't be producing enough to go around...

This is there won't be enough doses. But since more and more people are seeming to think they don't need any more shots, there may be plenty to go around for those of us that want bolstered. Hope they include health care workers.

A party we (adults) went to has the hosts and some guests sick with Covid. This is what I get for going out and being social instead of staying in on my couch

Day 2 and we all retested. H and I are still negative and DS is still bright bright line positive. We are all staying in our separate rooms and wearing masks when in common areas. I feel bad for DS even though he’s not complaining. He basically has unlimited Nintendo time and he’s getting so much junk food. (I know, probably not great for the healing, but whatever). We did encourage him to go outside for 20 minutes to get some sun on his face today. He has access to his playroom too but so far hasn’t been bored enough. The good news is he is sleeping until almost 10 each day. His usual wake up time is 7 am.

jaygee. Fingers crossed for continued negative tests. When DD1 tested positive, I had set up a table for her craft and drawing stuff, she had her tablet with unlimited time and movies, and I basically brought her whatever she wanted. I told my sister that I felt bad that she was stuck in her room. She responded with “she has it a million times better then we would have as kids. We would have had a few toys and books but that’s it. 🤣

Finished paxlovid last night - still feel back to normal. Today would be "Day 7" from when symptoms started. This morning still have a faint positive on a rapid. Getting tired of isolating.

Honestly I don't give a fuck if they think I need it or not at this point. I'll take advantage of my status as a person with a uterus of child bearing age and just pretend I'm pregnant at the pharmacy. Like seriously, this is so stupid. I'd rather get myself protected so that I can shield my kids if I can. After the last 3.5 years, I just have no fucks left to give about following arbitrary rules.

My kid is immunocompromised, but can't really wear a mask because of her special needs, so I am definitely going to do and say what I need to so I can get that shot.

Here's what's kind of weird to me- the immune compromised (and very old) were eligible for another booster in April. So they get yet another one this fall and no one else does?
MH and DD2 are both immune compromised. We saved their boosters for late July/August in hopes of getting maximum protection for the school year. (And- we all had COVID in February) I have germs from 3 different schools coming in my house; I don't feel like we have a real way of avoiding it.

I hope that's true. I understand not producing quite as much as they have been because I'm sure there are going to be fewer and fewer people getting it. But there needs to be a yearly booster available to the general public just like the flu shot. Probably forever. They can put our the message that old/immune compromised/pregnants really need it and others don't, but to make it official that you can't get it unless you're in one of those groups would be heinous.

I'm hearing talk from friend sin medical fields that cases are rising here quietly too. There are mentions of bringing masks back to all hospitals and doctors offices again as a starter precaution.

She also agrees though that we don’t know who will be eligible until the meeting next week 🤷♀️ I don’t get the sense boosters for all is a sure thing yet

Another one bites the dust. MH tested positive today. He’s pretty symptomatic so he’s going to urgent care to get paxlovid. Hopefully they give it to him.
I am still negative and DS’s day 4 test is much fainter so he’s moving in the right direction.

DD3 went down today. She has had THREE negative home tests this week and finally turned a + at Minute Clinic.
Makes me not trust my negatives at all.
Out of the 6 houses with school age kids on my part of the street, 4 houses have had COVID this week. (And largely not from each other!). It must be everywhere in school right now. Any Houstonians - tread carefully.

I saw my friend at the store who DS was at her house with her son right before he tested positive. That was Monday and she said Tuesday her daughter came home from school and her two best friends were positive. So yeah, feels like it’s all around here as well. And what’s scary is I’ve mentioned to a couple of people about DS having it and they are like “wow. I’m surprised you’re still testing? We don’t even have tests in the house.” Argh. I let the school principal know because the school has tests so maybe they can send some home.

I sent a message to a mom about DS not being able to attend a birthday party tomorrow (he was a maybe depending on testing) and the mom was like “oh, didn’t you get my email? Birthday boy has Covid so the party is postponed”. My goodness. I’d love to see a positivity rate for my zip code.

The last few weeks at least 10 customers have come up to me asking where the Covid tests are. They never have masks on either 🙃
