So my girls had strep- they just finished the antibiotics. DD1 was having some mood symptoms (possibly mild PANDAS- but she had strep last year when everything really went down hill and that may have been more severe pandas) anyway, she was improving with the antibiotics. Until day 7 she developed a rash on her face/red, bumpy, painful, puffy. There was concern it was a bad reaction to her mood med which had increased to help with the break through symptoms, but after the ped and dermatology, no one knows. They did blood work and she is neutropenic but not to the scary amount, and they had all been leaning towards it being autoimmune, but her ANA screener came back negative shortly after our ped appt, so I don’t know if that definitively rules that out. She’s definitely a bit tired, but no fevers. She’s lost 4 lbs in 10 days. We are of course going away on spring and the doctor ok’d it if we bring a thermometer, because any fever may be an emergency. I am stressed. It is getting a little less painful at this point, but her whole face is red. *stress*
A few days before spring break last year, DD2 had her seizure. I told DH no travel next year. This is too stressful.

I hope she feels better before your trip ❤️

byjove, my mind immediately went to scarlet fever like geekygirly or an allergic reaction to the antibiotic?

They said not scarlet fever, not related to the strep, and didn’t look like an allergy rash/not related to the amoxicillin. They didn’t test again for strep, but she just finished the abx Thursday. But her sore throat symptoms had resolved and it looked healed, so seems unlikely at this point. We already on the road 😔

byjove I am sure she will be fine. Hopefully it was just a weird post-viral rash - maybe she had something else that the strep masked.
