I'd actually be shocked if (even) she signed this bill into law, but it's pretty alarming that this is coming up in more than one state right now.

Logan says he isn't running for president. This man's communication has been a hot mess.

Twitter is having issues this morning. Screenshots/pics aren't showing and when you try to click on an article link all you get is an error. Of course the ad links are working. 🙄

Thankfully it seems there were no hazardous chemicals aboard the derailed train this time, so no spills. But ugh, this is outrageous.

Sorry, blame Twitter's malfunctioning. A bill is hitting Sarah Huckabee Sanders' desk that would get rid of the requirement of special work permits for minors, opening up the possibility for AK employers to use child labor - as young as 9 years old.

And of course it doesn't show up. Here's a c/p version of the above tweet.
From Twitter support:
"Some parts of Twitter may not be working as expected right now. We made an internal change that had some unintended consequences. We’re working on this now and will share an update when it’s fixed."

Thanks for adding that. I couldn't see it either. I think it was the NYTimes that came out a week ago with how child labor is used in the US, and it made me ill to read just the headline. How in the year of 2023 is exploitation of child labor still a major, recurring news story??!?! ETA found a tweet "Children stitch “Made in America” tags into shirts for J. Crew. They bake dinner rolls sold at Walmart and Target, process milk used in Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and help debone chicken sold at Whole Foods." In the U.S., migrant child labor is everywhere. nyti.ms/3m7pqj2

I just had an ad on this page that said, "Stop the Biden semi-auto ban!"
And it's like, read the room.

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Corporations will value money over ethics evry time.

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Corporations will value money over ethics evry time. I mean we could draw the line at consuming products made by child labor.

But do you know for sure other corporations aren't also doing the same? It's impossible under our system to know for sure and also it's a privilege not everyone has to be able to choose. Corporations should be actually held to account and regulated to hell and back to prevent these things from happening. But a good portion of our country don't see 14 year olds as children, they believe them to fully be adults and don't care one way or another if they are exploited. Eta and i say none of this as a form of apathy. I believe we should be aggressively pushing for protections for children and laws against such things and you do the best you can do with your purchasing choices.

I know the companies in this article use child labor. So I can try not to buy from them. And demand they and the government agencies are held accountable. So we are saying the same thing?

That is just the short list. if you drill down further or increase the size of the net you sweep you'll see more of this in way more companies. because we do not have the regulations and oversight to ensure it's not happening anywhere

That’s what it seems is being implied.

I don't think anyone is saying to not change their behavior if they are in a position where they can. Just we don't always know. How many here didn't know about Target before this? And I think I can safely say that everyone here is pretty tuned into what's going on, more so than the average person.
Knowing all that, it does feel pointless sometimes. It doesn't mean that people won't try, but it does feel that way. (Example: The feeling of pointlessness every time I drive past a Chik-fil-a with a drive-thru line spilling out onto the road. I still don't get food there, but...)

I’m not going to stop shopping at Target. 🤷🏼♀️ I can’t be perfect with my shopping habits. I have two disabled toddlers and mental illness that I have to constantly keep in check plus an insanely busy job that has been adding more and more to my plate. Grocery drive up at target keeps me sane. I honestly don’t even care if it is flammable. It shouldn’t be up to us to fix this problem.
