Helloooo I have a free day alone in NY next Saturday and was thinking I’d see something on Broadway (I’ve never been). I’ve seen Hamilton and Phantom on tour, so I think I’d like to see something new to me. What is your must see right now, of everything currently playing. Book of Mormon, Hadestown, and Six all caught my eye. Saw Hadestown a few months ago and it was fantastic! Book of Mormon was fun but not great. I haven’t seen Six but want to!

If you are up for a play and not a musical, Oscar Isaac and Rachel Brosnahan are in a Lorraine Hansberry play in Brooklyn. That’s what I’d try to see if I were in NYC! Ooooohhhh… I’m actually there for several days so maybe I’ll do two shows!

Keep your receipt for the next day and they’ll put you at the head of the line.

I saw Hadestown last week and really enjoyed it. I felt like it's got some unique elements to it and the music is really good. I also really want to see Six so that would probably be my second choice.

But maybe I’ll do a different one on Sunday!

I’ve seen Book of Mormon and Six and if I had to see one again I’d choose Six. Full disclosure, I’m really into Henry VIII history.

Tell me about that TKTS app… The app will tell you what shows were on the board recently and when it opens, what shows are available. 40-60% off. But you have to buy in person at the booth in Times Square. Best to get there right when it opens for the best seats. There is another app for discounted theater tickets, I think it’s called Broadway Today? It was recommended to me, but I have not used it personally. I’ve had awesome success with TKTS.

Was it Today Tix? I have used that. Definitely cheaper but you don’t get to pick your exact seats. I’ve never used TKTS in any form. Do you have to pay fees?

I always ask for best seats available and our Tix are usually $80-90, always really great seats! If you have your heart set on particular show, you really need to be there right when it opens. there’s always a line, but it does move quickly.

We’re going to NYC for spring break. I’m hoping the whole family can go to Aladdin especially if I can get discounted tickets. DH and I can go to one show on our own because my Dad is flying home from Egypt via NYC and joining us for the last couple of days. I’m thinking Hadestown or MJ.

Has anyone seen Kimberly Akimbo? I’ve been hearing really good things about it.

Finally got to see Hadestown!!! 🥰🥰 Loved it! Doesn't crack Top 5, but it was still very good! Might watch a 2nd time. Loved how the band was onstage and interactive. Had the hots for Hades. Why We Build The Wall struck me more than expected.

Bumping this thread as a friend of mine is in a cool new show that just opened- How to Dance in Ohio! It's based on a documentary of the same name and is about a therapy group of autistic young adults that put on a spring formal. The autistic characters are all played by autistic actors. We saw the show on Saturday and it's very feel-good, and the core cast is amazing. A fun watch. There's only 4 songs released right now, but they will be recording a cast album soon.

theseaword I just read about this the other day. It sounded like it would be a good show. I haven't sought out any of the songs yet, but this is the reminder I needed.

Reviving this thread- dd and I are hoping to get to NYC next month to see Aaron Tveit in Sweeny Todd and also my boo Derek Klena back in Moulin Rouge. Wondering what other shows we should consider. I'm thinking maybe Kimberly Akimbo and I'm curious about Back to the Future; I haven't heard anything about it?? What about Days of Wine and Roses? It's a great cast but I'm not loving the storyline. We usually get our tix at TKTS so I'm mainly interested in shows available there.

I don’t love the music. But you won’t have a bad time. It’s a huge theater so you would want good seats.

I have tickets to Spamalot in April. I just checked the TKTS app… miserable January is the time to go to Broadway! So many shows I never see at the booth.
