Soonest I could get was next Thursday for J. People in this town are HAWKS for kids appointments. I am driving to a rinky dink town 30 miles away so he could get in before December!

We got on our pediatrician’s waitlist last week and they just sent an email saying they’ll call today to schedule appointments! I’m realllyyy hoping for this weekend! I can’t believe we’ll have our entire family vaxed by December.

I’m so excited for all of you getting your kids vaxed! Mh is being very hesitant about the vaccine. Not in an anti-vax way, but just in a nervous way given what our family has been through in the past few years. And since our kids have just had covid recently (September), we’re going to go ahead and wait and let the first round of parents get their kids vaxed first. They should have natural immunity for a few months so might as well ride that out and let those who really want the vaccine get those precious slots first.

M gets hers Saturday! I couldn’t find an appointment that soon locally, so we’ll have to drive about an hour, but that’s fine with me.

I kept M home from school today with a cold. I have rapids here so I tested her just in case and it was negative, but man those 15 minutes of waiting made me nervous! I didn't really think it was Covid because she has no fever and feels fine, just a runny nose and a cough but figured I might as well check to be sure. She is so pissed to be missing school.

I didn't really think it was Covid because she has no fever and feels fine, just a runny nose and a cough but figured I might as well check to be sure. She is so pissed to be missing school. We're living this life right now. Both girls developed super mild cold symptoms while on a playdate (OMG I'm sorry playdate friend). M has a sore throat and a very occasional cough (like maybe once per hour). C just has a stuffy nose. Both have all of their energy. DH is home with them and he's super grumpy about it. We haven't gotten them tested because he keeps thinking that the symptoms will be gone by the time the tests results come back. Except we could have had the results back by now. I haven't pushed because he's the one home with them and several of M's classmates are out with not-covid (last week too), so I feel confident that it's not covid. But it would be nice to be sure. I'm sure that they will miss the whole week of school. But DH can't even stomach that thought right now. So we keep pretending that tomorrow might be the day!

Add L to the Monday group with her 2nd shot the week after Thanksgiving. Pray steady hands for our local CVS pharmacist who very likely didn't go to pharmacy school to give vaccines to kids 🙏

Pray steady hands for our local CVS pharmacist who very likely didn't go to pharmacy school to give vaccines to kids 🙏 Ha, this is my brother. He has a doctorate in pharmacy and manages a CVS inside a Target. He's happy the kids are able to get vaxxed, but absolutely hates giving kids any vaccines because they're so squirmy and he hates making them cry. My nephews (5 and 7) went to him for their flu shots and gave him two thumbs up though. Lol

Lol The time before last that M and C got the flu shot, the pharmacy tech was SO BAD at giving kids shots and it made the whole experience so much worse. M really hates shots and totally panics, so I had her on my lap and was holding her in place. The tech was practically shaking and was all, "Maybe you should just reschedule. She can't move at all. Don't let her move. You should just go to her pediatrician." I wanted to yell, "She's immobile, stop talking and give her the shot!" She's always totally fine after the shot, it's 100% anticipatory fear.

I went to nursing school knowing part of my job would be giving shots to kids yet never knew in my 10 years of hospital work that pharmacists could administer vaccines.

Got H a shot on Friday (not this week, but next).
Messed up a spot for M and now there’s nothing available. I’ll try tomorrow and my pedi has appts starting the 16th (can’t book til the 12th) which can be my backup.
I’m pretty enraged that with so much warning that this was going to happen, so many of us are still relying on Walgreens dot com and the refresh button. What a public health joke.

We were signed up to be notified by the state when they were available. Everyone here made me do a search on my own.

I almost didn’t book this morning bc our school system was gonna have a clinic and I thought that would be easier. But I saw Monday and took it and can always cancel. But yet crickets from the district today so….
It is ridiculous. OR I ended up in Fitchburg so not like I got one local. I’d put in central ma zip codes and Walgreens was more than cvs. But I’m sure you tried all that. And I have to take the kids out of school. But whateve.

I got appointments for my kids on Tuesday! When I got home so excited about getting appointments, my very pro-vax, already booster shot-ed husband reacted with “maybe we shouldn’t rush. Have you talked to the pediatrician? I just want to keep them safe.” WTF? I felt like he took the wind out of my sails. I’m keeping the appointments because I also want to keep them safe, and every medical professional I know is saying hell yes, get kids vaccinated. I’m stunned.

I looked this morning and it seems like they’re saying we “may” be able to get kids vaccinated next week. But no way to make appointments or anything.
Luckily I did read that they will offer the vaccine in schools here as well. I hope so! A TON of people here will not get their kids vaccinated by choice. But I’m sure there are a lot who are just trying to keep their heads above water with life and will opt for their kid to get vaccinated at school when they otherwise wouldn’t/couldn’t have made the time to do so outside of school hours.

Well, the downside of having one of the very first places to get kids vaccinated be at your school is that it can fill up with non-school kids. All state-run vaccine clinics have to be open to the public, so our school clinic filled up in 15 minutes. I'm hoping that it filled with mostly school kids, since there was a non-school one about 5 minutes from us with slots on the same day. But I know of at least a few kids who missed out. I fortunately knew from my own sign up that the signs ups often open about 15 minutes earlier than they said that they will and I got in no problem.

I told J last night that he was getting his shot today and he literally squealed. I asked what he wanted to do after to celebrate and he wants to come home and eat some halloween candy, then pie his dad in the face?? Like with whipped cream. LOL. I blame this on Ryan, who I have been trying to ban from my house for years, unsuccessfully. I was like.....no. You can pie yourself in the face though!

M’s school is doing a vaccine clinic, which I think is great, but it’s from 9-3 and parents have to be present. So not exactly convenient for working parents.

My employer sent out an executive order requiring all employees and contractors to be vaccinated by Dec 8!
Our local health dept has several openings, so I am going to get the twins scheduled for their shots this week or next when they have appts after school hours. Finally!
I will be needing a booster since I got J&J in March. But I also had covid in September so I think I'm supposed to wait 90 days from infection? I need to read up on the "rules" again.

Our very own stringy helped me find appts at a clinic a few towns over. For both kids. On Monday! Thanks, strings. You’re the best.
