Our school is providing a school-day vaccine clinic, which seems incredibly intense. I cannot imagine that many screaming children without their parents there to hold them. But then on the flip side, peer pressure is a strong thing. 100% it will be one of those major pandemic memories for the kids. People still talk about polio vaccine clinics, and those were sugar cubes.

The twins are in a full day PreK program. Their class just got quarantined through next Friday. IDK how I'm going to manage having them home with me this next week. There is literally no wiggle room in my work calendar. And my ExH "can't" take them for a few days. Even though he has no job.

But I was about 12/13. Pandemic memories - my kids now refer to one room of my house as “the schoolroom” because it was during remote learning. They will say, “we call that the schoolroom because during the pandemic that’s where I did school from.”

We had one growing up, but most certainly did not have a butler.

Someone in a local Facebook group is asking if they should still let their kids go trick or treating even though they’ve been told to quarantine bc of close contact. I just want to punch people.

Our district has alluded to in school vaccines too. Seeing as we had to hold P down for her flu shot I have no clue how that would go. But for M it would work. And P has been doing a self swab covid test weekly now after refusing at first. So who knows.
Memories indeed.

The in-school vaccine talk is reminding them me of my ~*tRaUmA*~ from junior high. We had to all stand in a line with our shirts off for scoliosis screening. There’s nothing I wanted to do less than stand around with my shirt off in front of the popular girls.
Not the same. But I’m triggered. 😆

I cannot emphasize how terrible for a tween to have to stand shirtless in front of the gym teacher and within sight of the rest of the girls.

My transition year from the suburban school district to the inner-city school district was pretty rough and in the middle of it I had to get a scoliosis screening in the locker room with my shirt off. They took us over to a separate locker cubicle so we weren't spending prolonged times without shirts on in front of other people, but I left my locker unlocked during it and some of the other girls stole my gym clothes, so I got in trouble for not having gym clothes. That was fun.

I am also now realizing that my high school locker room looked a whole lot like the sleeping area in Orange is the New Black, but with lockers. We even had the office overlooking the whole room.

And P has been doing a self swab covid test weekly now after refusing at first. So who knows. Memories indeed. I have to very securely hold M for her shots. And distract her in the other direction. C would probably be just fine. M would have a panic attack. I am ready to be first in line for these shots, but I'm wondering if school shots are the way to go for us. I love the convenience though.

Holy shit at the shirts off scoliosis screens. I vaguely remember bending over, fully clothed, and the nurse feeling my spine. That would have been traumatizing shirtless.

I'm hoping that kids' vaccines are done through mass sites or schools because I do not trust our GPs ability to administer vaccines... At least twice with C's routine shots there has been a little dribble of clear fluid running away from the injection site immediately after. I've never seen that with my other kids, the majority of whose vaccines were administered by public health nurses. It makes me wonder if she's getting the full dose 🤔.

Oh my god, just reading you guys talk about scoliosis screening is making my palms sweaty. I do remember getting the hepatitis shot at the school library though and the hpv vax in high school.
My kids haven’t had needles in a while and it was traumatic. J is going to have to take B for his flu shot and Pfizer whenever that happens, because I don’t think I’m strong enough to hold him.

Our in-school vaccine clinic is in 1 week!!! It's next Monday and parents are allowed to attend to help comfort their kid. Final dose is on Tuesday November 30. That blows my mind. My kids will be fully vaccinated before Christmas. I am so excited.

That’s so exciting, Maple! I got an email from our pedi that they’re starting to book appts on Nov 12 so I will be looking for something sooner than that.

Yay! That is all cause for celebration!
Haven’t heard anything locally yet. The local university hospital may be the only place providing the vaccines for kids under 7. *taps foot impatiently*

The totally understandable, but slightly annoying part is that they're going to vaccinate whole classes at one time, so we'll need to go to the school for each kid separately, instead of being able to schedule them together. But I think that Monday is the first day that vaccines will be available in the state for 5-11 yo, so I am impressed with our school getting the first slot. I've been consistently impressed with our superintendent throughout the pandemic.

Also, M's school just sent an email out today saying they are going to start weekly testing of kids who opt in so we will be doing that too. Makes me feel better since she is 4 so can't get her shot yet.

I just made my booster appt for this weekend, so we are getting all kinds of protection this week! Fingers crossed that our reactions are mild or nonexistent.

We got the girls appts for their first dose on Saturday! 2hrs before R's soccer game. I'm sure she'll still be fine that soon after.
They'll get their second dose the day after Thanksgiving. Crazy!!
