Definitely get a nose frida, +1000
Boppy, even if you don't breastfeed, is awesome.
Big comfy chair too, yes. We have a reclining glider and it was worth every freaking penny. We planned to have E in her crib in her own room from night one, but she fucking hated it. So the whole first wee home from the hospital I slept in the glider with her (bad, I know, but it was the only way she'd sleep. And getting up from laying down killed my incision, so sleeping propped up helped.)
Burp cloths/cheap cloth diaper inserts (which work great)
Carrier of some sort. Hands free is great and there were a few instances where E was inconsolable but wearing always solved the problem.
Small swing of some sort. E hated the mamaroo but loves the cheap little floor we have.
I'll echo skipping wipe and bottle warmers.
We did actually stay in NB clothes and diapers for an extremely long time. In fact, we just went up to size four recently at 18m old. But my kid is a serious string bean.
God I'm blanking. Newborn phase seems like it was light years ago.

We absolutely loved these fleece sleep sack things once he was done being swaddled. Didn't creep around his face, was warm, and worked well with a onesie and socks under. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01FKMUHE6/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1496367296&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=carter%27s+sleep+sackWe actually like and still use our wipe warmer. Our diaper genie has been great for 19m and has no odor unless he has a stinky diaper in which case we just take it right out. The auto Rock N Play is great. DS slept in for about 6 weeks and then was contained in it for months. Lucky for me even when he could roll he never tried in the RNP. Calmoseptine for diaper rash. Serious life saver. Jersey cotton crib sheets. Didn't shrink like the cotton and are super soft. Turns out you probably don't need 87% of the things you think you can't live without. DS surprised us at 34 weeks and we basically didn't have anything. He survived.

Adding: butt paste for sure
Ktan and Ergo
Car seat bases for bucket seats. Not completely necessary but soooo much easier.

Is there an appropriate time to create a registry? My mom said that multiple people have asked her where we were registered at. Idk if we will have a shower or not. I'd prefer not, but I guess they are asking about that too. I'm 16w today.

I've started a registry, but mostly just so I know what I want to buy! I went to a consignment sale on the weekend and got a gigantic pack of breast leak pads and one of those bottle drying racks that looks like grass that everyone seems to have on their registry, haha. Does anyone have any diaper bag advice? I was thinking backpack, good idea??

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I don't think it's too soon to start one, and some allow you to keep it private until your ready to share. That way you can edit it as you change your mind. It's also good to have for when you make purchases, some places offer completion discounts.

Pricey, but my mom got it for me off my registry! Plus you can usually find discounts.

I know JuJuBe Legacy BFF is similar, but I just looked at it in person and it seemed cheap for the price. I found a JJ Cole at Target that is also similar for about 50% less. Does anyone know anything about the quality either brand? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

fancy I have a jj cole diaper bag (not backpack style) and it's held up really well! I've had it almost 3 years.

I let H pick the bag so that I could ensure it's be something he's willing to carry. We have a diaper genie. Works great and target sells their own brand of the refill bags for like a fourth of the cost.

We use it for water bottles and sippy cups too. I actually really love it.

fancy I think it is appropriate to start a Registry now. blabbermouth I’m thinking of getting a backpack this time around because I’ll be carrying DD1’s toddler stuff as well as DD2’s infant stuff. My only concern is that I run hot so I’m concerned that a backpack will cause me to start sweating.

I prefer a backpack to a diaper bag. So much more room for activities and I don't have to worry about straps slipping off.

fancy we have the ju ju be BFF and it's held up well (2.5 years) with no tearing/damage. We will continue to use it with two kids. I like all the interior pockets for things and throw my wallet/keys/phone in it when we go out. DS was formula feed so we had bottles, formula, you name it. There's tons of room. I don't think it looks inexpensive, but I did get it for like 50% off on Black Friday.

I have a really nice diaper bag from DD, but I think I'm going to get a backpack one because it will be so much easier with a toddler and infant.
I'm trying to think of recommendations for things that haven't already been mentioned....
If you have the cash (or someone willing to buy it) the Keekaroo Peanut changer is expensive, but IMO so worth it. It is impermeable to liquids, and made diaper changes so easy.
black out curtains, though we didn't use them until we moved her into her room at 5 months.
I really think all of our other 'must haves' have already been brought up. This is a good thread for FTM! We are a wise bunch.

Oh, a vinyl changing pad that folds up to stuff in your diaper bag is super useful. Not only do I put it over public changing tables but you'll need to change baby in places without them. I can't tell you how many times I've changed DD on that thing on a floor somewhere.

I thought of one today when I was getting poked and prodded at my OB. Not a registry thing, just a tip.
No matter how sweet and well intentioned they seem, DO NOT LET STUDENT NURSES NEAR YOU WHEN YOU DELIVER. Yeah, yeah, they need experience, whatever. You don't need to be their guinea pig. Just say no.

Things I loved for my 1st:
Aden and Anais burp cloths- they are like a semi-U shape, absorb great and go nicely over your shoulder for burping the baby. I still use them with my 20m old when he has a runny nose. They hold up well in the wash too
Auto Rock n Play- My son would NOT take a swing so this saved my life
Boppy Lounger- I loved being able to prop him up on the couch
Fisher Price Sit me Up Seat- was great once his head was stable
Nose Frida- I have heard great things on the automatic sucking machine, I am tempted to try that too
Honest Company Healing Balm- Would wipe out a diaper rash quickly and I use it on any dry spots, bug bites, scratches etc. Works great!
Dohm Sound Machine- I was totally not a believer and didnt even get one until DS turned 1 but I LOVE it and DH and want one too. It totally helps knock out outside noise (we have a small house). Worth the money and we used a coupon at Buy Buy Baby
Ubbi Diaper Pail- Another thing I did not want to drop the cash on and I ended up getting one on a local swip swap after months of hating my original pail. This one works amazing, locks out smell, and looks nice in the room.

But if you are at a research hospital, beware - they may wake you up at 7 am to get you to consent to being part of a research study. I'm all for helping out, but don't wake up a laboring woman who just got her epidural 3 hours earlier!!

If you're looking for bibs, I highly recommend ones with snaps instead of velcro! A&A and Carter's ones are the best.
Don't spend a bunch of money on one type of bottle, your kid may hate them. Case in point, DS LOVED the playtex dropins nurses. DD HATED them.
A baby carrier of some kind. ESPECIALLY if you have a toddler that will also need attention. If you don't want to invest a ton of money in a carrier, the INfantino sash at Walmart is like $35 bucks. And its great for a nb.
Sleepers. The baby will live in them.
Baby shoes are useless. Don't waste your money.
If you're using a soother, I recommend the tether clips. Nothing worse than trying to reach backwards to find a soother while driving and your baby is screaming.
Sleep sacks are a godsend.
White noise machine has been a game changer (We didn't have one with DS and I totally wish we had).
