Holy crap. Literally. The midwife suggested I take magnesium citrate for the constipation. I asked about my Smooth Move tea but she thought that would be too harsh. Um....the mag citrate was pretty harsh! But it definitely did the job. I drank some last night and then this morning, I feel about 10 lbs lighter. I would have done it on the weekend if I knew how strong of a reaction my body would have but whatever. She said it can also help with insomnia and anxiety, which I don't really feel like are problems right now for me but good to know also for after baby comes when I am worried about PPA again. (and constipation too of course) In other news, she said to not be surprised if some of the docs in the practice suggest an induction at 39 weeks due to my age but she doesn't feel it is necessary. I may try to schedule some of my later appts with her too and maybe not the OBs. I feel like this practice used to have more midwives and less OBs but they seem to be going in the other direction now. I'll also get a NST at my next appt, which is apparently in some of the new guidelines for AMA, which she also told me the major national organizations can't really agree on right now! 😳 to her thinking smooth move would be more harsh than mag citrate! Mag citrate is so strong. We give that to our patients at work who are seriously constipated and it bombs it out of them every time Hahaha! Well, now I know. Anyone that needs something major to happen, that's the way to go. Best $1.99 I've spent in awhile.

Some serious nesting has come over me. All of a sudden I feel like I need to buy and set up ALL THE THINGS. Like, I need to pack up my baby bag with diapers and bunnies, my hospital bag (which is actually pretty legit of a nesting concern), go out and buy diapers and wipes and set up the swing and the bouncy seats.
I still have a little less than 7 weeks to go. I think it’s the “sit around and wait” that’s killing me. I need to feel like I’m doing something to prep for her to arrive!

Even though I'm a STM I am FTFO. I am so so so nauseous today. I'm terrified that the lower back pain + nausea is pre-e. But I literally just saw my Dr on Monday and I'm not spilling proteins and my BP is fine.
I'm thinking that E just had a little stomach bug and shared it with me. But I'm definitely going to lie low. Ugh, what a week this has been.

I still have a little less than 7 weeks to go. I think it’s the “sit around and wait” that’s killing me. I need to feel like I’m doing something to prep for her to arrive! I think this is the reason the bathroom remodel is driving me crazy. I can't do anything to prepare because I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING!!!!!! Our master closet is empty (only carpet and walls, no shelves) so our clothes are in the nursery, mine in the closet and DH's in wardrobe boxes. In prep for painting and new carpet in the bedroom a lot of our other stuff was put in the guest room and nursery, but now that those are done I can start moving those back into the bedroom. Our shower gifts are in boxes and bags under the Christmas tree because I don't have room in the nursery right now, same for the boxes (lots and lots of boxes) that are arriving with stuff from our registries. They are sitting in a pile by the door because (again) no room in the nursery. I felt a little better earlier this week after I pretty much cleared out our registries of the "must have" items, I know they are in the house or at least on their way. A friend dropped of a shower gift of a huge pack of 900 Kirland wipes because she wasn't able to attend the shower. I still need some diapers... I'm going to do Amazon Subscribe and Save starting in January for those. My workload will be dropping off to pretty much NOTHING after next week, plus I have the last two weeks of December off so I'll have lots of time to get everything back in order and to regain my sanity. I have no real assigned tasks in January so I'll be doing a lot of crafting and twiddling my thumbs. Thank goodness I work from home!

marygracerich, glad all is fine! With DS1, I had some random spotting (around 28 weeks maybe - don't remember exactly) and it just turned out to be absolutely nothing/we never found a reason for it. FX you don't have any more!! easternshoregirl, I have never heard of needing to be induced just due to age alone. That seems a little ridiculous if everything else is good with mom and baby. Glad your midwife doesn't agree with that. My left foot pain is so bad I'm now wearing a boot. I'm thinking it's a stress fracture maybe...? I don't want to go to the Dr b/c it will be all out of pocket and our deductible rolls over Jan 1. So it would be like $500 for a 99% chance of them saying - wear a boot, rest it as much as possible, elevate, and ice. They aren't going to have some magic fix so I just don't see the point in spending that money. We have an appointment with a new surgeon for DS1 in a bit. Long story short - he was born with hypospadias, had surgery 1 to repair it, then developed a fistula so had surgery 2, and now has ANOTHER freaking fistula so this will make surgery 3. I'm seeing a new surgeon today to get his opinion on why this keeps happening. I hope I love him. DS 100% needs a 3rd surgery no matter what but I want to know WHY.

easternshoregirl oof I had to drink that before my surgery to unblock my tubes before I had DS. That stuff is no joke! I take 2 colace every night. At the end of last week I figured I was ok bc i was regular so i didn’t take any for 2 days. Big mistake. Back to taking 2 a day. marygracerich oh wow! I’m happy your doc was so thorough!

Hello! Went to bed at 9:30 last night and slept until 7:30. That was so needed. DS slept until after 8! That never happens. Nothing too exciting going on today. It’s very gray. A cold front is moving in and it’s supposed to stay in the 50s which is about as cold as it gets here!

helloerrbody, my OB says that since "old" mothers have a tendency to have the placenta fail a little earlier that they "like" to induce around 38 weeks to prevent it from happening. I don't know the stats on it, but as long as the NSTs are normal and there are no other complications I would rather not deal with inducing just because I'm AMA. But maybe I'm just burying my head in the sand that it is necessary.

marygracerich glad things worked out and they took everything so serious! aprilz81 great pics! amesie I’m also feeling the nesting urge! I had my growth scan and cervical length check today. I got super dizzy and almost passed out. It was weird. But baby looks great. Measuring about 1 week ahead and 70% for weight. I failed my 1 hr by 9 points though. So annoyed.

I think I am the oldest one on this board. I was AMA with DS and he was born at 41 weeks. I had an induction scheduled for a day or 2 after that. My doc didn't treat me different other than offering nipt testing. I did have weekly nst once I was past my Edd. Now I'm going to a midwife practice partly because I didn't want to end up with an Ob who was intervention/induction happy. I moved or I would have used the same doc. I have asked and I will just get nst if I go past my due date again. I would definitely push back against an induction at 39 weeks only because of age. If there is concern I would agree to an nst. Interesting to hear that there was no concensus at the conference.

Yep E shared some kind of bug with me. My lunch is hanging out in the side of someones driveway where it's marked no trespassing. Sorry, bro.
I hate being sick and especially with an upset stomach . And E had two loose stools at school and so she can't go back tomorrow again . So fortuitous that I'm sick although I'm not sure how to chase after a 2yo while feeling like I'm going to puke.

This might be a stupid question... what does AMA mean? I keep reading it as “Against Medical Advice” as it means in the nursing world. But that doesn’t seem to make much sense in the context I’ve seen it

Guys I'm wiped out... I got our bedroom back together, straightened up the guest room and got most (but not all) of the extra stuff out of the nursery. At least now I can get in the door and start putting away gifts... But that will have to wait until tomorrow!

Speaking of, my yoga teacher has a friend who is pregnant with her first and she's 49. She's super healthy but they started her on weekly appts at like 20 weeks just in case.

Currently trying to get my paperwork together for my maternity leave and getting depressed about it. Looks like I can't actually apply for leave until 3 days AFTER my due date since I took paid family leave at the beginning of the year to take care of my mom, and I have to wait for the full 12 months to pass before applying for it again, or else I risk getting denied. (I took family leave starting February 14th this year, and am ineligible to apply until February 15th of next year. I'm due February 11th).
It will be ok and will work out in the end, but I'd really like to have this just simply done and over with, and not have to worry about it when I'm in the middle of delivering my kid.
I think my nesting instinct is coming out via baking ALL THE THINGS. Bread, cookies, cheesecake....I can't stop. But I have actual stuff that does need to be done before baby arrives (clean out/decorate the junk room to turn it into a bedroom for kiddo1), organize our bedroom and get the bassinet set-up for kiddo2, tidy/organize the nursery for kiddo2, and get the newborn stuff out of storage from the attic. I should probably get some girl-stuff? I try to keep things gender neutral. Oh, and decide on a name.

My anxiety is getting out of control. I’m petrified of getting the stomach bug that’s going around and ending up dehydrated, I’m afraid of being out on insulin, I’m afraid this kid will be here before the end of the year. I’m just a mess and feel like I’m drowning.

kbw, do you normally have anxiety or is this "just" pregnancy related? Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor if it doesn't ease up soon.

When I was teaching, I had to do all this shit after the baby was born but within 48 hours or whatever. Like what brand new mom needs to deal with this shit then and what about when there are major problems with the mom or baby and it's physically/mentally not possible. Pretty sure you can approve my leave and then easily verify that I in fact had a baby and when I had it.

Thanks for the explanation, aprilz81! flippinchica, glad you have providers who aren't induction-happy like so many doctors seem to be these days. I am not AMA now, but I'm close, and I will be with our 3rd baby.

aprilz81 I'd caution against stockpiling too many diapers before delivery in case her skin has a reaction to certain brands. But subscribe and save is amazing!

I'll probably post more about it tomorrow but tonight I caught a student in a pretty big lie that ended up taking her from a high A to a D final grade. My major has to have a C in this class or they have to retake. Lying likely cost her a few thousand dollars....
