I use yellow onions, peel back a couple layers until the skin is off and the white is showing, you can leave them whole or cut them in quarters, place in bowl or vase and put around your house. I have one under each of the kids beds, two under our bed, one on the bookshelf downstairs and upstairs in the living room. Keep them out until they dry up, about 10 days, and then replace. No it does not smell like onions in my house. It's true, once cut a bit they are like germ magnets.

That's tough jewels. Other than what you have already done with explaining that everyone has different beliefs and celebrates different occasions I think I would just keep trying to hone in that message. When he asks when Santa is coming remind him that you guys don't celebrate Santa but maybe redirect him to some of the special traditions you have in your family that you do instead. As far as the gifts aspect, if you want you could maybe do something with him like remind him again that you don't celebrate Santa, but that maybe he could earn Legos from good behavior (weren't you doing reward charts?). You could also maybe show him some Youtube videos of families celebrating different holidays although that may backfire and he may start wanting to celebrate every culture's/religion's holidays.

And like tallb just mentioned, if you want you could make up some new traditions with him that are winter time celebrations like making snowflakes or things like gingerbread houses that have nothing to do with Jesus.

I love this SAH thing. Just found a free standing Chick-Fil-A to get myself lunch (with a milkshake because I officially weigh the most I ever weighed in my life and I'm going to get on that soon). Picked up a few gifts for DH and some nursing bras and baby clothes. I got the 2 boys matching shirts coordinating with a dress for DD for Christmas the other day and today I found the boy's shirt in 0-3 for the baby. I was so excited. We may not even go anywhere for Christmas but now with him coming on the 11th, I should be able to make a card last minute.

So, remember my friend who passed away from cancer about a month ago? Well, I’m not sure if I told you all, but that experience definitely gave me a kick in the pants to make sure I’m staying on top of my heath and I made myself a skin check. I haven’t been in four years, and I’m fair skinned and live in AZ. Anyway, there was always just always the excuse of being too busy and if I’m honest I tend to be the kind of person that would rather just bury my head in the sand. Anyway, I had two moles removed and I just got the results back. One came back fine, but one came back abnormal. I have to go back in and get the area around it removed to make sure they get all the abnormal cells. Not hugely worriesome at this point, this procedure should remove anything and it’s not cancerous, just abnormal. But if I had waited 6 months or a year it could well have turned in to cancer, and I probably would have waited if it were not for my friend passing. I’m feeling incredibly grateful right now.
And, because I love you all, I’m going to take this moment to urge you all to schedule skin checks and/or any other doctor appointments you’ve been putting off!!

Glad you went Unicorn! Pregnancy can change moles and skin since everything is growing, I caught my melanoma in situ while pregnant and a girlfriend found a melanoma while pregnant too.

@73jewels Not exactly the same but I feel that way when dealing with the questions like "why do my friends eat animals?"
I agree with PPs about emphasizing what you DO get to have or do.
If you have a Mennorah, make a big deal out of that, maybe you can find a holiday lights display or some event at a local temple? I'd just explain that most people we know celebrate Christmas, but we don't, and we get to do (insert awesome fun thing instead). I always thought my Jewish friends had it made with Chanukah since they got 8 days of presents!

Good for you xolastunicornxo! I'm glad you went and didn't put it off. You're right it is important to be on top of your health. I went for my Dr appointment beginning of November and had a full blood panel done for over 35, we discussed my weight, BMI, and overall preventative maintenance. It was a really fulfilling Dr appointment and I felt very adult, and old, in that moment. I could cry thinking about not being here for my babies, the least I could do is go to the Dr.

The ups man just backed into my driveway to unload all of my packages 😳 I’m glad Dh wasn’t here to see that!
Good news is, my Christmas cards came and I was worried about them being blurry, but they look good! So I’ll be adding that to my list of things to get done and mailed today!

xolastunicornxo I'm glad you went. When I have my annual skin check, I make the next years appointment before I leave, so I have no excuse. My first step dad passed away at 39 because of melanoma that went unchecked. It is one thing I will be consistent on having checked.

jewels that is tough if you don't have a similar culture around. You might XP on the general discussion board. I think xmas is a time for most non-practicing Christians to talk about religion on a variety of levels and participation. You should also mention it to his teachers at school and provide them with some resources if you have them. As an aside, in the former soviet union, new years is the big xmas holiday and grandfather frost brings gifts. Obviously it is up to you how much you want to participate in any of the winter holiday traditions but there may be some that are made non-religous easier than others. I mean the tree is a pagan ritual and stockings are from sinterklass and the shoes. I know even at this age E is curious about what christmas is. I should really do a better job explaining Santa. But books are what we are using and there must be some good Hanukkah books. and PS if you decorate with a Menorah we want pics of that too!

That's kind of how I think of it, too, Sunny41. Most Christian traditions are really pagan anyway. But I'm coming at that from a secular standpoint and not "we have a completely separate religious belief system" like @73jewels so IDK.

Oh my.
I was added to an anti vax group (without my permission) and wow those people are extra nuts. And stupid.
They don't seem to know the difference between a Vitamin K shot and a vaccine.
Here's a couple gems from this morning:
"My completely unvaccinated eight month-old has an ear infection. How is this possible?" What?! Why would one have anything to do with the other you ignoramus?
Here's another: "all my friends who have had babies recently are pro-vax and I'm not saying I want something bad to happen to their babies but I'm wondering how long before they realize I'm the expert and they will learn the truth." Sick individual with a savior complex.

Ns party is Sunday.. I’m making sloppy joes ahead of time now and will just put them in the crock pot that morning.
I should freeze them now for a couple days, right? Not store in the fridge?

Oh, scary.
Here's what else they're doing if they work at hospitals: going to Walgreen's and getting the form with the "warnings, if you feel sick you should call, etc.," paying for their flu shot, then pretending they forgot something in the car and leaving. Using the receipt and follow-up care sheet to provide "proof" they got their shots.

Most "Christmas-y" décor and celebrations in the US really don't have much to do with Jesus at all. When I was raging earlier this week at Trump's proclamation that he's bringing "Merry Christmas" back to the White House I had to eye roll big time. Apparently since Obama is a heathen Muslim there was no Christmas décor in the White House (which is completely false and it was decorated in a very traditional Christmas-y way), but Melania took it upon herself to bring back what was being alluded to as Christian Christmas décor, but was in fact inspired by The Nutcracker Suite complete with ballerinas. What exactly does the Nutcracker have anything to do with Jesus? Absolutely nothing. In the current décor scheme I didn't see a single nativity yet Trump is being heralded by some for bringing Christ back to Christmas in the White House. Eye roll for days. Or maybe I just need to go back to the Bible and look for the part where the toy nutcracker comes to life and fights a rat.

The stupid I saw online this week was a guy arguing that he's part Native American and he wasn't offended by Trump's Pocahontas comment. What's the big deal? Pocahontas is a nice cartoon. Moron literally thought Pocahontas was just a character made up by Disney.

At lunch I saw a pigeon walking around with string tied to its feet. Like he got tanged up in some threads or something. I tried to catch him to free him but couldn't. I did spook him enough to loosen it so it fell off one foot and was looser on the other and will probably come off on it's own. Poor guy. The homeless people in the park were staring at me like I was crazy.

He confronted them and said, "what's the matter with you? Didn't your parents teach you anything?!" I got the dirtiest look from the moms nearby but I thought it was the funniest thing ever. Wish I had it on video.

Speaking of the White House and Christmas...a friend of mine is there right now. She was selected as the artist to paint the 12 ornaments on the “Missouri “ tree. Apparently they have trees representing each state. Then they selected an artist from the state to make the ornaments.

And as you (and others) mentioned, I will try to keep telling him about the other things we do that are different. Typically we celebrate Hannukah on 1 night only, but maybe we'll start doing it for the whole 8 nights to make it more special to him. And the Youtube videos are a great idea!
