I never know what will scare my boys. They can watch Jurassic world like it's nothing but the crab in Moana makes them lay face down and whine until it's over or we fast forward. I don't get it.

So Pixar does emotions 'well', huh. So can inthekitty or anyone else field the questions after? LMK. I’m having the questions now that I’m struggling to answer... so I’m hoping this will help. But if the questions weren’t already there I may not take him to encourage them. If that makes sense?

I guess I don't watch enough PIXAR to have a clue and I didn't know Coco was about death.
Dude wouldn't be bothered by skeletons or anything of the sort, but he gets very upset about pretty much everything in movies so who knows?
I don't think there is a single movie we've ever gotten through on the first time. Usually he gets to a certain point, gets upset (I.e. When the dogcatchers get them in Secret Life of Pets) and orders me to turn it off or leave the theater. Then he might ask to watch it again a day or two later, and by like attempt number 4 he might see the whole thing.
Lots of talking and questions in between but that's just life with my Dude.

Apparently we aren't very religious, bc we have negative desire to see star. We had the minions on last night after bedtime and no clue why we let him watch that once, and last night we caught some of the Incredibles, also a no. We watched trolls this weekend and he said it wasn't scary while watching it, but right after he said it was.
I don't know about Coco yet. I want to take him to a movie, but think we are a ways off🙁. We like common sense media, so I'll check there.

My sister said something about taking Poppy to church earlier today and I was like, what? Why would you think I'd want to do that?

Mh and I are going to the movies tomorrow while Cadence is at school. We're going to see Lady Bird.

As for the kid's movie. It depends on your family. I don't think Cadence would be scared of the skeletons in CoCo, but she is obviously around things of that nature more than other kids. Kids that were raised being taught about Day of the Dead would understand it more than those that aren't. While the Star movie looks cute, it isn't necessarily a movie we would go see because we don't actively practice those beliefs. She would probably have more questions about that one than CoCo.

I think discussing death is harder than some of the other big topics because unlike something like sex where the majority of the conversation can be strictly science-based, death is more about personal beliefs and faith. But I want the kids to know they can talk to me about these issues so I try to leave the door open. This is one of those topics where how a parent handles it comes down to their personal beliefs so there's no right or wrong way to address the questions.

Ugh, Charlie has croup. Nothing that warrants a steroid, but the ped put one in just in case he gets worse over the holiday weekend and they're not available.
BUT his head circumference fell off the curve, so we got a referral to a pediatric neurologist. I'm waiting on call back to schedule an appointment. Because his development is fine and we're not seeing any neurological issue such as seizures, tremors, odd eye movements or vomiting, they don't think it's going to be an issue, but they told me that there is a good chance that during the appointment they might want to do either an MRI or a CT scan to make sure his skull hasn't fused. Has anyone else been through this? I can't remember anybody mentioning it before.

I think LO is not as scared of death because we have lost so many people around us (2 great grandmas, great grandpa, aunt, uncle, and our next door neighbor who was his friend). So we have already had the talk and he sort of gets it (for a 3/4 year old). But we've read books with him and answer his questions so I feel that wouldn't be the problem. There are random things he gets "scared" of but I don't think it's really been a problem. We have more of a problem with him repeating words/phrases and duplicating actions then actual things

guster Oh no! I'm sorry about the croup. Also, I don't recall anyone on the board having that issue.

guster Oh no! I'm sorry about the croup. Also, I don't recall anyone on the board having that issue. I didn't think so. I'm googling only accredited medical facilities, and I'm more at ease than before. Surprising, right? I am staying way from other mom boards jic.

Re: movies Josie could absolutely do the skeletons, she would actually sort of enjoy them, but the emotional element of it would destroy her. She has no concept of death even with no grandparents and losing Tillie, and I can't imagine what it'll do to her a little tender heart. ETA: I didn't even like writing this post because it makes me feel all jittery inside.

Sorry about the croup, guster. Glad you got him in. Did he fall off of his curve or the chart entirely?

Dude keeps insisting he had a dog named Lenny "but he's not here anymore because he died."
We have never known any human or nonhuman animal named Lenny...

I agree with this. Every child/family is different. No one is saying anyone HAS to take their kid to either movie, just giving reasons why they, themselves, will or won’t.

guster sorry about the croup. I hope it doesn’t get worse. Side note, my doctor has never checked head circumference outside of regular well checks. What prompted them to check it today?

H has had a bloody nose for like an hour. Not sure exactly when it started but it’s been going a while. I wonder if the fever is causing it to not clot like normal.
