OMG to pink bathroom tile making a child gay. Just omg. Wouldn't that make like every male growing up in the 50's-70's gay? Every house had either a pink bathroom or pink kitchen!

My college roommate was like that. Her sister had a baby boy for her 2nd child and he wasn't allowed to step one foot into his older sister's room for fear just being around girl things would "make him" gay. Uh....that's not how it works.

My SIL and I recently had a talk about how we are all about girl power and bending the gender norms by letting girls play with boy toys but we are still less willing to encourage boys to be as fluid. Like it is ok if they play with it but we aren't flashing pictures of our kids dressed in girl characters like we do of girls dressed as boy characters. I was struggling with this when it came to E's bday. I just need to not filter what he wants, like sparkly skirts or red dresses or Elsa dolsl. And if he wants to dress in dresses because that is his lifestyle then I will support it and he is preparing me for it now. Although I suspect those families mentioned above would know this abut their kid early on and not support it later in life.

Dude likes to wear my makeup and pretend he's Elsa.
I can see my FIL on the verge of a massive coronary when this happens in his presence and I think it's hysterical.
He knows better than to say anything in front of me though.

Every morning when I do N's hair, H wants a bow or clip in his hair too. I think it's cute and let him have one until he pulls it out. Both my dad and FIL (and DH to an extent) were all "you can't do that!!" and horrified that I let him wear a bow in his hair. Oh. My. God. That's when I pointed out to DH that he would let N do anything "boyish", why is not okay for H? He finally loosened up and now it doesn't phase him when H and N play with babies together.

This talk reminds me of the Friends episode when Ross doesn't want his son to play with a Barbie and keeps trying to force GI Joe on him. At the end of the episode, Monica reminds him when he was little he used to dress up in his mom's clothes and have tea parties outside. There was even a song.

At a friends bday party last month a girl from C's class went to her dad and said "Callan likes girl stuff dad." Like she was tattling on him. The dad brushed her off and C didn't seem to notice. But since then I have noticed him being "yuck, girl stuff" at Target in the toy section. Still doesn't stop him from wanting his toenails painted and to wear matching leggings to me. My parents and DH are put off a bit by the leggings and toenails. I don't understand why. He looks so stinking cute in both!

He knows better than to say anything in front of me though. Lol, C loves makeup. He was also playing with my American Girl dolls this morning. "Look at their cute tiny shoes!". I got him a baby doll when I was pregnant with L and my mom thought I was nuts. He wasn't ever interested in playing with it though.
