jewels I don’t have a leap pad but o wouldn’t get one since I have a kindle and iPad. There are a lot of great learning apps around. If you wanted you could get a subscription to abc mouse, they seem to always be running specials. I think Cher has that for C1.

Re: parties, I overdid it last year.
This time I scaled back and I think it was a fun party.
We started at 10 am and had pasta salad, fruit and veggie trays, various chips, guacamole and hummus, Cutie's, applesauce pouches, Fig bars (they're like a healthy Fig Newton), Uncrustables for the kiddos, dinner rolls, cake and cupcakes.
It was at a park so no stress about my house looking perfect. We had around 40 people and my tiny house can barely fit a fraction of that anyway.

I think Slenle was spot on with mini donuts, fruit and mimosas!! Yum, that sounds amazing. Omg, I'm starving and this food talk is killing me. It doesn't help that I have nothing to do at work and I keep seeing food post on facebook that look amazing. And I'm doing no sugar/carbs this week so it's extra torture. My soup at lunch is going to suck.. lol.

jewels I am probably in the minority on this but I don't do much for our kids with technology for various reasons. Like, B uses the iPad on long car trips and that's it. So personally I wouldn't be real keen on adding more. I think if anything, you could look for flashcards, inexpensive workbooks, things that you could do WITH him. I know, easier said than done, but that is what I would do We do a few things like that with B and he loves it. +1 I know I'm addicted to my phone so we try to avoid screens for j still. We had the iPad for the car ride last week, but he was perfectly content being a backseat driver, so never broke it out. Yeah, he'll watch a movie and then he's done and back to chatting my ear off. We don't have any kids apps or games on ours. I'm more relaxed on TV time, but I think I allow more of that b/c he's usually playing and active *while* the TV is on--he doesn't just sit and watch for hours on end. They have a little weekly computer class at school (teaches them basics like using a mouse, etc.) so I feel like he's getting exposure without being overloaded.

Morning or afternoon? Morning- mini donuts, fresh fruit ...mimosas Afternoon- Cheese & crackers or pretzels and hummus. Wine. 10am. LOL, I somehow added the word afternoon to your post. I would get a box of munchkins and have some coffee on hand. Munckins for kids and parents both. But my "group" is fairly low key with these things. If you want to be fancier, maybe some pastries to snack on?

Like I said, I'm in the minority and #oldschool No, not judge-y. I agree with you, in theory. But I've tried a lot of those other things and he's not been too into them, but he loves the handful of learning games I have downloaded. So while I am also #oldschool, I am also #whateverworks and #lazy

I have found great flashcards and learning activities in the dollar spot at Target. Yep, that's where I found ours! I also think even basic playing can enhance learning. For ex, B has "Paw Patrol" themed playing cards. He learns a lot from us playing those card games with him...number order, matching, etc. I agree with this too. I mean just this morning, we had a math lesson with cheese.

I was obsessed with them, till I started weight watchers and calculated the points... I realized the brand I was buying were no better for me then the good old fashioned fig newtons!!

On the play learning theme, S found UNO cards and we've been playing UNO with him for the past few weeks... He loves it, and I figure it's definitely reinforcing numbers. Win, win.

They probably aren't, in all honesty. They're called Nature's Bakery Fig Bars and we get a huge box at Costco. IIRC, the regular fig newton cookies have palm oil. These don't. I do not have a strict policy of avoiding palm oil, but if I can buy an alternative product without it, I prefer to do that. They're also certified vegan, which doesn't matter necessarily because I buy things that are "vegan by ingredient," but this means they use sugar that isn't filtered through bone char.

Thanks for all the good snack ideas guys! The mom and kid are our neighbors but I don’t see them too often. I’d love to see her Dd and B build a friendship though.
I’m not going for wow factor here since it’s a casual relationship. I’ll prolly grab some mini croissants.

Well, I've already been invited to a sales meeting at a fancy place next Wednesday, none of the people on the invite were involved in sales. So it's basically a bullshit excuse to schmooze us out of the office. I already declined.
While I'm always up for a free meal, I don't feel like I can trust anything anyone says to be, unless it's related to day to day operations, and the girl in customer service is the only one I'm going to openly talk to, besides my H.
I guess our receptionist asked the CEO if she could talk to him and he told her he didn't think he had time. So now she's really upset. This entire thing has been handled SO badly.
I do have a phone interview scheduled for Friday at 10:30, although I think I'm completely overqualified. H told me it might be a good option though so I can get off this sinking ship.

Sunny41 I’m really not doing it to keep up with Pinterest moms, I don’t have social media. I have no hobbies (well I do, but not weekly ones) I I love creating something that looks pretty. Sometimes it’s a party, sometimes it’s a gift (basket) or a room. And themed party’s are not a thing here, I’ve learned that from you guys 😉, people think I’m nuts over here. The only thing I’m battling is my expectations of myself as a mom. ETA when I go to party’s myself? If there coffee and cake the world is good.

I do let the kids have screen time, usually not games and we don’t own an iPad, but YouTube etc sure. I need it to keep me sane. We also do a lot of stuff together, we read a lot. We had a go at pumping carving (my hand hurts) today and made soup after.

J still has a fever, I gave her some Paracetamol and she’s is asleep for now. I’ve made dinner plans with a friend and I really want to go. I’m taking my phone and can be back home in ten minutes. Hope she stays asleep and feels better tomorrow.

We get those bars every time we go to Costco! J eats one most days on the way home. I love the new packaging, but no clue what they taste like.

Just went to lunch with my director and got a GF crepe, yum. My hair stylist canceled for my cut tomorrow, but they can fit me in with someone else, which is fine since I had only seen this guy once before. I must figure out outfits for pictures this weekend, it's going to be freezing😞.

MH's 30th birthday is at the end of the month and I want to plan some sort of surprise for him but it's stressing me out. I've been trying to think of ideas for weeks and now it seems last minute.
The weekend before his bday is Thanksgiving and a lot of people are busy/out of town. The weekend after we have an xmas party on Friday, then N's bday Saturday and her party Sunday. DH is very outgoing so I know he'd really love some sort of party.
So I tentatively booked the back room of the sports bar on the Friday after Thanksgiving after checking that at least a few friends would be able to make it. I'll throw up some cheesy 30th bday decorations, order some pizzas and pitchers of beer and hope I can pull off a surprise. I feel bad I can't do something "better", but the timing sucks. I'm sure he'll love it though!
