Some good news. www.politico.com/story/2017/10/23/2018-fundraising-democrats-house-races-244044"Animated by opposition to President Donald Trump and the Republican congressional majorities, at least 162 Democratic candidates in 82 GOP-held districts have raised over $100,000 so far this year, according to a POLITICO analysis of the latest FEC data. That’s about four times as many candidates as House Democrats had at this point before the 2016 or 2014 elections, and it’s more than twice as many as Republicans had running at this point eight years ago, on the eve of capturing the House in the 2010 wave election."

I am preemptively cringing over what the White House's response to this will be. Not just the White House. Fox News and the cesspool of Twitter will be attacking her as well. I feel awful that in the midst of her grief she has to defend herself and a Congresswoman against Trump. (I'd ask WTF is wrong with him, but unfortunately this is pretty par for the course.)

That's horrible. Did y'all hear that someone created a fake SM account pretending to be her, defending Trump and slamming Rep. Wilson as a liar? It was making the rounds in conservative circles. Probably still is. Omg people are horrible.

The conservative line right now is that she's so distraught by grief, she doesn't know what Trump said to her or what she's doing, and that the evil MSM is taking advantage of her by putting her on TV, saying things that couldn't possibly be true. 😡😡😡 Fuck them all. I can't belive the article where they wouldn't let her see his body at all. I don't know protocol, but that seems not normal.

I stayed away from most news all weekend. After watching the battle between the WH and Rep Wilson, I just couldnt take any more.
What is going on with Mrs. Johnson is horrifying. FFS be a man and apologize to the woman for being a complete and utter fuckface and move on. PUBLICLY say, Mrs. J I'm so sorry for your loss, the united states and its people stand with you and will do anything to help you during this time. ITS NOT THAT HARD.

I don't know what to say. I mean, we knew he gave no shits about military families? I guess this is a new low? But is it really? He's been unfailingly consistent in his lack of empathy from the beginning. It's actually his value prop, so... yeah.
ETA: he ran on "IDGAF I SAY WHAT I WANT WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT!!!"

The thing that this skips right over is that even if the average $4K reduction for middle class taxpayers is more evenly rationed, at what cost? Reduce my taxes by $4K sounds lovely on its face, but at what cost? What programs, safety nets, budget line items are going to suffer? Fuck that.

Referencing the Bill O'Reilly sexual harassment settlement payout (right before Fox renewed his contract): I feel some kind of way about all this speculation. There is a reason settlements are not public. There are many reasons for a large payout beyond the nature of an alleged crime. Wasn't the victim a lawyer? She could have just been a fierce negotiator. Maybe she had embarrassing information on him (which he would consider worse than a harassment charge, like about his fetishes or something.) I'm not saying I don't think O'Reilly is fully capable of heinous and gross crimes, just that the conjecture is kind of a waste of time.

I thought I heard that part of this settlement was the destruction of all evidence (texts, voice mails etc) which is awful because that is admissible by other victims to show pattern. ETA The Daily was saying she was a 15 year legal analyst.

ETA The Daily was saying she was a 15 year legal analyst. There are probably really good reasons to disallow destruction of evidence as part of a settlement, especially when it comes to sexual assault or domestic violence. But I could see people saying it is a slippery slope - conceivably you could say any evidence of any crime could/should be available to establish a pattern, like a pattern of carjacking or drug possession. I'm not a lawyer though and I'm sure there is much more to this whole theory than I could imagine. I just want to be really clear I am not WK'ing Bill O'Reilly.

Its still up to the family but they strongly encourage.
