That Dark Matters video is confusing. She says Joan dropped both children off at the swing set in the neighbors yard, without telling the neighbor, and told her daughter she would be back. Yet, the neighbor only takes the daughter back home and later gets the baby from his room because he was crying......? Also, a sign of the times, parents just dropping kids off in yards back and forth all day. The girl said her mother thought there was an intruder in the house and was dropping them off so they would be safe. She didn't want to wait to check in with Mrs. Barker because the younger kid was in his room.

mack, was that the theory that had to do with the neighbor, Mr. Barker? Apparently the adjoining lot was going to be built on by the Barkers. I don't think they could come up with a motive for why he would want her dead, though. We could speculate either an affair between Ms. Barker and Joan's husband, but that shouldn't make him want to kill Joan. Or an affair between Joan and Mr. Barker. She told him she was pregnant and he told her to "get rid of it". She says no, he attacks her and attempts to perform an abortion on her....cringe worthy, but I guess possible.....

brux I read this entire pdf book and I cannot find a clear explanation as to why they believe the body was in the adjoining lot. www.truth-link.org/pdfs/imgall.pdfI sent a message asking for clarification. So far, I have not seen this theory anywhere else. The real MVP.

That's the only connection I can find is that the lot was owned by the Barker's. The website says MYSTERY SOLVED. And refers to the lot as her burial site, but offers no explanation for how that conclusion was drawn.

Jaysus. He was born in 1959 which *would* make him 58 years old.

Alright, alright, alright... I think I got some info on this theory. This thread is from websleuths: www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?30505-MA-Joan-Risch-30-Lincoln-24-Oct-1961/page35Where I think things went off the rails is in the conclusions. He's been pointing to that little plot of land for years without saying why she would be buried there. It's sort of implied it had something to do with wanting to sell the land, the park that went in where that neighborhood is, eminent domain, and the neighbors wanting to consolidate land around their house, but it's not clear what he thinks the connection is. Just as well, since it seems pretty unlikely that that was Joan's fate (though stranger things have happened).Apparently, the author has never articulated why they drew this conclusion. However, in the pdf the author included all these articles about eminent domain and there might be some legal issues with the plot of land. He also included information from the Women's League of Voters and some of the issues they were discussing. So I am wondering if he is alluding to the fact that her murder had something to do with disputes over the land they wanted to build on.

Is that the trash can? They were also saying there was beer in it. There's a Miller box next to it on the floor so beer sounds likely.

This is one other thing about Mrs. Barker's story that's bugging me. She said she dropped Lillian off at 3:45 to go shopping in Concord and returned by 4:15. I lived there as a child, and it seemed to me that that was a quick turn around for that trip (based on my recollections). I googled their location in Lincoln to Concord Center which I would assume would be the closest place with shops. It's 4 mile's each way. It would take you at least 9 minutes today. I am assuming more in 1961 since traffic was slower. And at that time of day there would probably have been traffic. A lot of people traveled route 2A on their way too and from work.
So let's give the benefit of the doubt that it would take her 10 min to drive each way. That leaves her 5-10 minutes to be in the store. And she had two kids in tow. That sounds....very tight.

It’s so sad her son went missing. It’s probably a hard time of year for him and he couldn’t deal.

So her son went missing on/around the anniversary of her disappearance? Thats so weird.
And also, his poor sister. Assuming she's still alive.

Based on what i have read today and this podcast I am listening to, I am pretty much ruling out the botched abortion theory. Or at least putting it as my least likely scenario. It's not impossible that that is what happened, but it's just really unlikely in my opinion.

Promise me that if any of you ever see a bleeding woman walking down the highway that you will at least call for help. I get this was before cell phones, but this could have been prevented if someone had stopped and rendered aid.....assuming the sightings were legit.
