I'm really hoping all these high turnout numbers of Democrats finally getting off their butts about non-presidential elections. The sense I got while canvassing is that people are PISSED about Trump and, at least here in NoVA, Gillespie=Trump

I was voter 1103 on my machine at 1pm. I brought DD with me. And I was able to donate to a different bake sale! 🙂

Turnout is tapering midday with all this rain. Call, text, tell everyone you know and get them out to vote!! This doesn't seem like a big surprise though, right? That break inbetween when people have lunch and head home for the day? Now if things are still looking slow in a couple of hours I will be more worried...

Capital Weather Gang reporting weather should ease up by 5pm. Edit: Jinx @blanche! You win for posting the tweet, though.

I’m not surprised it tapered out mid day. I know if I was there I’d either vote before or after work. No way could I make it during the day.
*dont want to get my hopes up though.

Be ready to settle in for a long night. This one might be close, so it will take time to get counts in. And DON'T get discouraged by early counts--it takes longer to report from densely populated precincts

Every time my hopes get up, I just remember election day last year and I'm brought right back down to earth. Encouraging news about turnout, though.

Turnout in the city of Petersburg (southern VA) at noon, including absentee, was 20 percent. I want everyone to vote who can, but lower turnout in the rural, more conservative areas could be a good sign for the Northam camp. I just read on Twitter that it's a heavily African-American community so low turn out is not good. I have no idea how true that is but I'm glad to see the turnout #'s overall.

Anyone else have an interesting local race going on today? In my area and the surrounding county, there are 2 female Dems running against incumbent old white guy Republicans.

IDK why the fantastic turnout numbers are making all emotional. Apparently I'm passionate about Democracy or something.

I know non-presidential election years have lower turnout, but what’s a sort of normal percentage for an off year like this? Because it’s not midterms. Does VA always do governors on the off years? Showing my ignorance here...

Showing my ignorance here... VA governors serve a 4 year term. Their election is always one year after a presidential election. So far I’m seeing turnout is about 8-10 percentage points higher than the last gubernatorial election.

Showing my ignorance here... Every year is election year in Virginia. Never a full moment. And yes the governor's race is always in an off year, the voter turnout I am not sure about. But I've been seeing anything between 5-10% higher so far, not counting absentees and wayyyy more absentee ballots than usual.
