I know this thread has probably been done before, but tell me what podcasts to listen to. And how best to access them. I've never podcasted before. Explain it like I'm 5. I'd like political ones to keep more up-to-date, but am open to other options.

I like Podcast Addict for accessing.
All the Crooked Media podcasts are great
Vox's The Weeds gets really deep into policy details.
NPR politics gives a good high level overview of what's happening politically
Slate Political Gabfest and FiveThirtyEight Politics are both round table type discussions of current political events
Preet's new Stay Tuned is excellent so far
I just started Amicus with Dahlia Lithwick which is focused on the Supreme Court. Im liking it so far.
Non-political
Spilled Milk Stuff you Missed in History Class Criminal Serial 60 second Science NPR Rough Translation This American Life

I like 1A as well as Diane Rehm's podcast. I can't remember the name of it right now.

TIL my stupid work blocks most podcasts. But not so the official block notice comes on the screen. It just pretends it can't load. I tried the stitcher website, NPR, criminal, stuff you missed in history class, pod save America, and a couple others. I finally got 1 to work and listened to a delightful lesson on Ulysses Grant while I cleaned my classroom.
By TIL, I of course mean yesterday.

I have some more non political recommendations: - Strong Opinions, Loosely Held - Stuff Mom Never Told You - Where Should We Begin with Esther Perell
Somewhat political maybe, just started listening to Uncivil which is untold stories of the civil war.

Mine does that with NPR podcasts, but if you download them (and I can even download while on work Wi-Fi) then it let's them play. Then just delete when you're done.

I talked to IT because I might like to use some in my classroom (not the political ones). So maybe they'll get unblocked in a few months.

All of the above, plus also: - Radiolab (sometimes political) - More Perfect - 1A, especially on weeks when I feel like I missed a lot of what’s on the news

Adding 2 Dope Queens. It is an hour of stand-up comedy hosted by Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson with 2-3 sets by other comedians. I laugh out loud on metro and walking down the street like a crazy person, it is hilarious. Such a nice antidote to all the political stuff.

Bumping this because I've been doing a lot of commuting lately and need lots and lots of things to listen to. Anything new out there? I listened to some true crime to take a break from politics last week, and then was paranoid of my kid being lost forever, so I think I need to back off from that for now.
Also a shout out to my friend Maddie who was featured in the recent episode of Conversations with People who Hate Me about the trans ban.

I was going to start a thread on podcasts that are NOT in the top 50 out there and constantly recommended. I’ve gone off the beaten podcast trail and wanted to share!
“Where Should We Begin?” It’s in its second season. They are one hour couples’ counseling sessions. Even if the topic has nothing to do with your marriage, the way Esther (therapist) discusses the issue, brings up points and changes the thinking is interesting and useful to hear. She has all kinds of couples (not just straight) with all kinds of issues (kids, fetishes, anger, past abuse, etc). Each episode taught me something.
“Ear Hustle” In its second season. It’s stories about life in San Quetin Penitentiary. The host is a volunteer at the prison (Nigel) and an inmate (Erlon). The inmates have no access to computer communication so all comments come on postcards!
“The Habitat” Brand new. It’s an experiment out in Hawaii where six people are going to live in a habitat for a year as if they are living on Mars. It’s data-gathering for a future NASA Mars mission.

I have 115 podcasts I subscribe to. It's... gotten out of hand.
A new one that I haven't listened to because I just found out about it this morning is Mother, May I Sleep With. They break down Lifetime Original movies so I'm pretty excited to listen.
I still mainly listen to True Crime and politics, but you do need a break every once in awhile. The only audiodrama I have kept up with is King Falls AM.

stringy, I really like Keep It with Ira Madison. He touches on politics, but it's more pop culture.

joy thanks for The Habitat rec. I just started it and am enjoying it so far. I have so many questions!! I wish the reporter had gone more in depth about the actual mission, experimental goals, etc. The Space Camp moments were my highlight. I feel you, Anjay. EDIT - were they living day to day like astronauts with EVA goals, experiments, etc? They seemed to have SO MUCH downtime. It made me think it was more a psychological experiment on being close together with other people more than an astronaut experiment. They also got cheetos delivered so I’m a bit perplexed by the goals. I just wanted more framework and info on who was running it, where it fit in the whole Mission to Mars and couched with other experiments clearly being run (since that is how Ciprian and Christiana met).

Have any of you been listening to Trump Inc? No! What is it about specifically? I was listening to the new season of Embedded from NPR that was on the Trump investigation by Mueller. After two episodes, it stopped. No update, no word, nothing.

You must listen to Slow Burn.
I also just heard about a new one called "Chompers." It's for kids, and each episode is 2 minutes long so they listen while they brush their teeth.
