I think maybe the Target brand AG lookalikes are probably similar sizes as the real ones. The prices are a bit cheaper.

I took the catalog we received yesterday to my moms when I dropped Evie off. She used to buy my niece AG dolls and clothes, so I'll leave it in her hands!

joelies, thanks for all that information. Our preschool director and her teacher tell me at least once a week that she is kindergarten ready, but I've never been concerned about the academics. To me she's just a very young kid, and she doesn't really have the endurance to push through. I'm sure that will change, but as I search now, i'm searching for the child she currently is. Pipe dream: I'm hoping to find something next year that is either three full days a week or more preferably five half days. The Montessori a few towns over, one day care facility m, and a private school but not too far from here offers something similar. So that's probably where we would end up if K is off the table. Also, I'm going to send you a PM about one of the towns relatively near you that we are looking at. Just looking to get a feel of its vibe.

guster, our cut off is Sept. 1 but you can petition for them to go earlier. I wish you couldn't petition because i feel like he'll be soooo young with the Sept 1 cut off. MH wants him to start next year and I want to wait. MH is a Nov birthday and always says he did well starting so young (and he didn't speak English). I think C would do well either way, but I still want to wait!

I wish it was more clean-cut ( like it will be for Charlie and Lue). I also don't understand how so much of the country has a September 1 date, but a handful of states use December as their cut off.

Yes! It'll be so nice with Charlie and Lue to just throw them in with the rest of the spring birthdays!

My brother was a December birthday and started at 4, almost 5. My best friend was a January birthday who started at 4 - I think the cutoff was sometime in mid-February back in the mid-80s. They were all fine, though they say kindergarten is a lot different now, so who knows? LOL.

Until Josie, I never realized that my four closest friends all have birthdays spanning from August to December 31. Of all of them, three started at 4 years old and only the December Birthday started at five. All fine. All successful. I do remember that later start child feeling more pressure in high school and college because she was the first to drive and (legally) buy alcohol.

This topic is stressing me out now.
Our cutoff is october 1. So S will not start K for almost 2 years and will always be the oldest.. Also B will wind up being the youngest (August birthday).
With their personalities and development so far, I wish it was reversed. S has always felt ahead, and B has been slower in all his milestones
Anyway, S bff is an early October birthday and the school recently gave him the option to go into the next class up. Apparently it's a million times better, and he's thriving (you may remember it not too happy w the education at my school)
Now, bc of this, S is literally the oldest kid in his class, with some kids who just turned 3 in September- which seems so young. I feel like he's regressing in some ways bc of his classmates being so young.
I stress about this all the time.

Could you talk to his teachers and the director and see if they would consider transitioning S to the older class? If he's able to go, what would he do next year if K is not an option,

Also, I grew up in a town with an October 1 cutoff too, and I was the youngest with a late September birthday

If he's able to go, what would he do next year if K is not an option, I was thinking about talking to them. But then it's the reverse and he'd be the youngest by 6 weeks and there would be some kids who would be over a year older, would he be socially able to adapt? He does know a lot of the kids bc they combine after 5, but, I dunno. As to K, I what his friend said their plan was to keep their boy in day care for their private k then just start public with his class I don't want him to start public school early - he's on the small side and I think being a full year younger and smaller will be tough for a boy. Like you said - I wish my boys had a March birthday. It would be so much easy

They have now started letting Cadence visit the pre-k whenever possible and she just loves it in there. She's listening better (at school, not at home) and just behaving all around better. She will get to move in January and I'm not pushing it right now. With the way the months are flashing by it will be January in no time.

jewels this is only for kindergarten, after that they move up in September! And he’ll be an ‘old’ first grader, 6y10mo, but that’s fine.

My bday is Dec 18 and I started K at 4 and always liked being the youngest. I’m mostly upset that our cutoff is Dec 1 because O and Z are 2yrs and 1mo apart in age but on either side of the cutoff so that will make them 3 grades apart. That upsets me more than being the youngest or oldest.

The thing about O is he’s a follower. I think even if he was the oldest he’d be following all the younger kids. He follows Z a lot as it is.

A friend of mine’s two oldest kids are exactly 2 years apart (their birthdays are in May, like a week apart). She, for some reason, decided to hold her oldest back a year. He turned 6 in May and started K this fall. So because she held him back I think she’s holding her daughter back too. I don’t think that’s fair to her.

Ate a taco, chips and queso for lunch. I'm regretting it. ETA: clearly I'm confusing the days threads and posting willy nilly.

I was dreading the school thing too but cutoff is sept1. I'm so thankful that E is in a class that is birthdays from sept2-february. So they are close in development and they are the older kids. It has made me more comfortable knowing he isn't going to be the only old kid and he isn't the oldest. I also have a teacher conference next week where I'm going to all the teacher to be as blunt as possible and not sugar coat things. I think he is pretty average, not struggling and not advanced, but he could be struggling and I don't know it. And whenever people say "he's so smart" I get annoyed because it makes me think he is advanced and I should push for early K entry.

Also, we just had these babies so I'm not sure how they're going to kindergarten where they know things and do things without us?

I think that's better groupings for maturity, development etc
