I'm getting uncomfortable with the politicizing of the process of who called, etc. Its a horrible situation for the family of the fallen. A lost child, spouse and/or parent is awful and thats where the focus should be. At this point, if it were shocking I would say differently, but he is who he is and he isnt going to change. We cant shame into being a decent human being. The issue at hand here is him blatantly lying about his own actions while smearing the actions of prior presidents. Personally calling or writing a letter to the families of every fallen soldier has not been an expectation of presidents in the past, and the issue of whether he did would be completely beside the point EXCEPT: 1) in his relatively short time in office, he has failed to comment on incidents were a number of soldiers were killed, while tweet storming about relatively trivial issues, and 2) he made this bizarre claim about his own behavior for no other reason than to make himself look better by putting down other presidents. The notion is not to shame him into being a decent human being but to call him out on his lies once again. Its not calling out his lies. Its the politicizing of it all. And the networks carry some responsibility in that. Hes going to lie, he creates his own reality. He is a subhuman asshole. |

I hate him so much. Usually, I put that anger into phone calls and donations, but today I'm just sitting here raging and almost crying for Mrs. Johnson. I just read about the "he knew what he signed up for" thing. That is first line of what any "good" patriotic non-military person says to a milspouse who is frustrated or angry at any part of military life, and it's usually followed by "be grateful for..." A good milspouse should always shut up and support their service member's job because "they knew what they signed up for." Like when I bitched to a friend about H deploying 10 days after DS2 was born- "well, you knew what you were signing up for, be grateful they let him stay for the birth." It's always a shitty thing to say, but it's extra shitty with the context behind it, knowing she's probably heard it a million times for much lesser complaints in the last several months. This is so spot on. He could legitimately be promoting what's happening with ISIS and Raqqa right now but his petty nature and lack of empathy are his own worst enemy. Exactly!! He should be out there taking credit for a MAJOR blow to the Islamic State (even though a lot of this is bc of Obama decisions but whatever). He sort if made good on a part of a campaign promise and he's not talking about it at all! His ability to metaphorically shoot himself in the foot is proof positive that he is juvenile and completely incapable of governing. |

Mike Pence's brother is running for Congress in Indiana. Swell. While I understand the immediate reaction of disgust, I am not so sure that the whole Pence family is like Mike. I'm sure they are Republicans, too, but I don't read them as Christian-right ideologues like Mike. It feels gross. The POTUS offering money over the death of a soldier. As if he can put a price on life.
