I think it's also worth noting, in the conversation about making political hay out of the responses to gold star families, that Kelly is reported to repeatedly have asked friends and aides not to bring up his deceased son when commending his own service. He doesn't want his some death politicized. And Trump totally politicized it.

Not exactly politics related, but I’m putting it here because I donated for our high school’s journalism program.... I am addicted to donor’s choose. I love seeing the projects that teachers are working on and helping them get there. Especially when they double my donation. I’m sprinkling love all over Nebraska teachers right now. Because I need the next generation to have everything they need to learn. Which I’m learning more about now as a mom to a kid in a rural school district.

I hadn’t heard of it but it was posted on my town’s FB page. Most of my state is rural and our state legislature is all in on school choice 🙄 so I’m sure they don’t get the funding they need. I have some extra dollars, and this is a worthwhile cause for me. Kids should have books and supplies and teachers shouldn’t go bankrupt paying for that stuff out of pocket. |

He’s expected to join the Ohio Business Roundtable.
I don’t like Tiberi so this is a win for me. But why resign to join the business round table? Seems odd to me.

The issue at hand here is him blatantly lying about his own actions while smearing the actions of prior presidents. Personally calling or writing a letter to the families of every fallen soldier has not been an expectation of presidents in the past, and the issue of whether he did would be completely beside the point EXCEPT: 1) in his relatively short time in office, he has failed to comment on incidents were a number of soldiers were killed, while tweet storming about relatively trivial issues, and 2) he made this bizarre claim about his own behavior for no other reason than to make himself look better by putting down other presidents. The notion is not to shame him into being a decent human being but to call him out on his lies once again. Its not calling out his lies. Its the politicizing of it all. And the networks carry some responsibility in that. Hes going to lie, he creates his own reality. He is a subhuman asshole. To many op-eds, "panelists", "experts" these people sway the thinking for that is going on. News has evolved to entertainment is either Right/left wing and it isn't unbiased as it should be. Here is what I know. - Obama did contact and or communicated with most if not all of the fallen during his term.
- Trump has contacted some families and ducked others
- Trump's administration lied to the american people on a daily basis and that alone is a threat to the American people.
- Trump politicized Kelly's son's death the moment he referenced it.
- The widow and congresswomen were not the only people on the call with Trump. So was the soldier mother and she stated he was very disrespectful.
- Trump has not insulted and defamed the honor of American servicemen 3 times now.
How his "base" can still support him is insane. I wish I could make a list of all the things he has done against them and the rest of this country and present it with facts to them and see where they stand and why.

JukEboX,and @heartbot,there definitely is an element of sensationalism. TV news shows know that talking about the crazy things Trump says and does gets viewers. People will tune in to see the spectacle. It's unfortunate but it *does* color the coverage. And I see similar tactics in right leaning news media too but, rather than the spectacle, they fuel outrage and fear. Viewers tune in every day to see the next new thing they didn't know they were supposed to be freaking out about.

And I wanted to punt Glenn Greenwald when he said that reporters today are sitting around talking to each other on Twitter instead of doing "shoe-leather investigative journalism." Bitch please, the one good thing to come out of 2017 is that we have entered a golden age of investigative reporting. Since our government is disinterested in holding the president accountable, our journalists are doing it. And they're doing a bang-up job.

I have been very angry with McCain in the past (for valid reasons, IMO) but he and Collins are the kind of republicans we need right now. Because there will always be republicans, but they don’t have to act like soulless pieces of crap.

oh my god this hearing is really unsettling. The people in charge of cybersecurity don't know what they're doing. And one of the witnesses didn't even show up. Jack Reed is talking about a subpoena. The DOD HAS NO PLAN IN PLACE for securing the 2018 midterms. NO PLAN.
